Nice construction. My wife has been asking me to build one of these for years. You gave me some pretty good ideas on fabrication and will have to build one now. That’s some incredibly clear and true lumber you’re using, the stuff we have here in Virginia is all warped and twisted, quite a challenge to build something as nice as yours. Anyway thank you for the inspiration.
High quality content. I enjoy the technical videos but the diy catio is very cool. I have dogs and couldn't live with cats indoors in anyways but I'd make something like this for the barn cat.
I don’t normally comment much but I just wanted to say that your videos r awesome! Just you being you in your videos is what makes it awesome. I’m glad I came across your channel. Great job and keep it up!
I actually have something like this for my cats but it is made form 3 chain link gates and is elevated off the ground. My Mom had one with some removable storm windows and a heater for winter. Keep up the good work!
A very nice project and a good cause for bird conservation. Every year, millions of birds die due to stray domestic cats. There's no question that I like cats, but I can understand the call from bird conservationists to keep your pet cats indoors during the bird breeding season. When a bird mother is killed by a cat, the offspring in the nest often die as well. However, with sparrows, it's different, as other sparrows often feed the young ones in a neighboring nest if the bird mother doesn't return. I hope this project sets an example or inspires similar projects. I find it to be a fantastic initiative. 🤗👍
I agree! When I was a kid our family cat tried to eat everything up to bald eagle size, fortunately she didn't manage to pounce on that one! She'd also bring us half-dead birds and sometimes bats and let them go in the house, always fun trying to catch those at 2am. We also have a busy street and a lot of stray cats in this neighborhood, so it's better for the cats AND for our vet bills to keep them contained.
Came for satelites, stayed for the man. Also it's crazy that you have 100k subs now, when i started watching you were at ~40k and it wasn't that long ago. Farewell ! :-)
We're still working on decor and furnishing. They like to sit in the sun, so I'm hoping to keep part of it sunny and part in shade so they have options.
Oh man.. you really are some kind of soul brother of mine over the pond.. all that cool tech stuff AND cats... Awesome. :) I'm actually planning my own cat container but want to make a significantly larger one, same kind of thing though, with direct entry to the house. Good stuff.
Can't wait for the follow up videos(plural) of overbuilt contraptions you concept to keep them damn squirrels outta them bird feeders. We'll cover whatever crap of ours you might need to help make this chuckle-fest happen. Come down to the store and fill up a cart on us if you're ready to Fudd-it-up.
You really ramping up your video editing as well, absolutely like the music choice on this one and seeing you build! Great work, this is a project where you and the cats can enjoy the fruits of labor for a good time. This is a great example of true cat daddy! I've got two myself and will definitely use this blueprint as default.
I'm a fan of UA-cam's free music library 😁 I think I've used stuff from this artist before, I just try to pick stuff that I like and that sort of fits the feel and timeline of the video.
Nicely done. I've wanted to build one for my cat(s) for years, but no suitable orifice for them to come in/out of. I rent my home, so, I can't really make any "mods" :)
They get pretty intense here, we have the two old ladder chunks as frames and they're already at the top and trying to take over the catio now. I'm not sure I should have put it so close, but the hops were established and none of the other windows really worked. I don't think we've taken full advantage of the hops yet, just given some to a friend who brews.
Thanks! Some people seem to prefer a montage, some people like the details, but not everyone wants to sit through a 20-min video of my amateur carpentry 😂
I used both chicken wire and aluminum window screen, both from the hardware store. The chicken wire keeps the cats in and the screen (hopefully) keeps mosquitos and other pests out.
Very nice. I want to make one so bad for one of my feral cat that the other cats beat up on her so bad. She is such a beautiful cat and she lives all by herself in our barn across the street and has to cross over to get fed every day. She uses the calvert to cross over. Very smart cat. She is the oldest of the group.I think this would be great for her and attach it to my porch window. She has been in before when u caught her to get her fixed. I am the only person she trust. I can pet her. Looking for advice do you think it would work out for her? I am worried about winter for her. See the cats that used to be over there with her are gone.Thank you.
We are motivated to try this but the thought of having 40% less space going "first story" window and not both... Cats Id bet be just as happy and thinking less risk of cold inpass and critters???? Or just do both windows? Dryer exhaust is coming out in same small window size all ready, as about your size for basement window as well... ugh lol
Hello Sir, I just saw your custom cyberdeck video. It was GREAT and INSPIRING.. I just wanted to know what are all the study fields you have learned to gain all this knowledge. I would like to pursue it too.
I went to college for computer science, but I think I learned more by just messing with random junk and researching how to use old electronics! I also read a ham radio book and took the license exam years ago, that's a good way to learn some basic radio theory. Hope that helps!
I've admired your corded Metabo drill motor on several episodes now. Was this a dumpster score? I have Metabo 12a 5/6" and 15a 8/9" grinders that have moved more metal than about 10 other name brand and Harbor Freight models combined that burned out prematurely.
We put a kind of grating / mat down so the grass can grow through but they can't dig. We're hoping that keeps it from becoming too much of a litterbox!
I'm glad you built it so strong. If it collapsed it would be a CATastrophy. Don't add plumbing or anything to make it livable, the police frown on CAThouses. Don't build a bar in there, mixed drinks and felines may result in a CATatonic state. Or was that gin and tonics?... Thank you, I'll be doing stand-up all week at Dad's Lounge.
We use harnesses on ours, they'd get out of a leash pretty quick too. If we leave Donny unattended he start to chew through the leash, so the catio is a little safer!
Yes we had gotten a harness which the leash was attached to that went around her front legs neck and back but she still got out of it in a Split Second I don't know how LOL

Thanks for this my daughter wants me to make one😊
Listening the cars on the road next to your house, this catio is a good way to avoid tragedy. Nicely made anyway
It's a pretty busy street, and people drive fast on it. Definitely safer to have them contained!
Love it!! Hope to have a catio soon . Thanks for speaking kindly about the squirrels, too! ❤
Our Duchess would love one, will ponder on it. Thx for sharing.
The cats were terrific.
As a proud cat dad, you have inspired me to plot out my own catio! A great idea and another awesome video 😃
Awesome dude! I made a catio last year for my cat connected to basement window for easy access
Thanking you most kindly from England UK
An idle and indolent life form.
I'm the same.
I really like this Catio. It’s pretty close to the one I need to build and I’m glad I came across this video.

Neat hobo sign shirt.
thats actually really beautifully made, good job!
If I were a cat, I'd approve!
Two paws up!
I didn't really get it until I saw the 'flaps'.
Now I think it is wonderful.
They can go outside whenever they want.

I was hoping for more baofeng Di-Pole antenna content…But a Catio ALWAYS peaks my interests 👍🏻
Turn the wire mesh into some kind of signal cat-cher?
Ferriday cat-ge
@@lars_of_the_north If I can learn how to turn a cat cage into a GMRS antenna, I will spare NO expense! LOL!
Now you gotta make a KittyCam! I have 3 curious cats of my own and I'm gonna have to try and do this myself haha
Love my friend thank you for the video watching from Ontario Canada.
I think we need a live, 24/7 Catio Cam now!
A couple of Cool Cats!

Thanks! I'm glad you like them, they're kind of all over the place in topics and projects. I definitely have lots more stuff I'm working on!
Just as I was looking to buy one you posted this
Realized that I forgot to comment in hindsight. Looks great and I know that they loved it from future videos.
Very nice video, also i woudl propose some wood impregnation paint on frame, so it will last longer outside.
That thing is huge. You could use it as a Faraday cage, well, you should close the back side anyway
glad your cats enjoyed it, cheers!
Nice job
5:30 "entertained"? more like tortured XD
lucky cats tho fr good job XD

Reminds me of Evan and katelyn’s catio, well project idea, their pretty different
Beautiful ☺️

Need a collapsible version for camping
This looks awesome. The cats will love it! And the addition of "entertainment" with the bird feeds will be super popular with them I'm sure!
YAY a CATIO! Awesome! Yay cats!
next thing we know the catio is the size of a human patio and there's satellite recievers on the roof :P
I was hoping for a faraday cage build video from the thumbnail and channel regular videos, lol
Ha! I should do one of those sometime. Or just use this as one :-)
Great job!! I love that it has access to both floors. I would add a few more platforms for jumping or laying, but it looks like the cats enjoy it!

make a stand for your miter bro
It's easier to deal with long boards on the floor, I don't have time to drag around a stand and a bunch of supports and junk.
Can anyone tell me what he's securing the thing to the ground with at 3:44? I'm trying to recreate this at home!
I think I used some big metal spikes or nails to hold this one down. It's also screwed to the window frame in a couple spots.
My wife loves cats so much that, when the last one died , she tore out all of the flooring in the house and replaced with fresh materials.
how much does something like this cost?
It depends what you use to build it. I bought some material and re-used some stuff I had around, so it's hard to say exactly!

I wanted to build a catio when I had my condo but “outdoor animal enclosures” were forbidden by the HOA.
I have yet to ever hear anything positive about an HOA, never understood why they exist or why people voluntarily join them.
All my cats are outside cats, it's weird seeing other cats recact to differant enviorments.
the problem I find with bird feeders is they attract rats
We just get tree rats :-P
