That black foam is a very specific Lithuanian metaphor! It’s hard to translate. It’s used in our folklore. There’s a fairytale about Eglė who married the King of Serpentines. He tells her that if he leaves and if she wants to know if he’s still alive, she has to come by the sea and call him. If the sea-foam is white, then he’s alive. If it turns red - he’s dead. Monika Liu played a bit with that, hence the black foam - meaning he’s alive, but he’s never going to come back home! The song is about a woman stuck in the past. She can’t let go of her past love.
Actually, the Queen of grass-snakes cried out to her beloved, "If you are alive, come white milk foam, if dead, black blood foam." Not red, anyway, a multi-layered mythical meaning for Lithuanian audiences :)
Lithuanian folklore moment. Brothers and sisters bathed in the sea. When they returned to their clothes, the youngest sister found a grass snake in the sleeve of her dress. The serpent says, be my wife and I will leave. Sister agreed. Three days later, a snake came to the yard to pick up the bride. There was nothing left to do, she had to travel with them. The bride went to the palace at sea and found a handsome man not grass snake. They lived happily and had several children. One day the children asked where their grandparents are living and asked to visit them. Father and husband released them to go and told, when you return to the seashore call for me, and if I will be alive i will come like white foam, if dead - (bloody) black foam. While the wife visited her parents, her brothers killed her husband as they thought he is a nasty serpent. When she returned to the seaside, she called her husband and saw (bloody) black foam..
Folktales are fascinating! The theme of an "animal husband" reminds a bit of the Swedish tale "Prince Hat under the Ground". That one has a happy end though after a lot of entanglements, where the girl in the story turns out to be the clever hero that breaks the spell that has been laid upon the prince. That one has a lot in common with the Greek tale "Cupid and Psyche" also.
The thing with the black foam, there’s a fairytale in Lithuania in which a girl is waiting for her lover and she says standing in front of the sea “if you’re alive come with a milky (colour) foam, if you’re dead - blood foam. P.S. was really looking forward to hear your opinion, thank you!!! ❤️

black foam is referencing a lot of Lithuanian literature especially in Eglė, Queen of the Sea Serpents wish is like a folkish poem and it would mean that a person is dead

It is a song about feelings. These are the memories that you hold dear forever It was a song about missing someone you love, "sentimental", and remembering the past and how much you loved someone, but now youre kind of stuck or trapped in your memories of your past love and you long to have it again- without really going deeply into grief, since the thematic of the music is upbeat in order to prevent going too deep into any feelings of grief and loss. Song is about yearning and reminiscing of a lost love - Sentimentals (black foam reference to dark waves beating down the shore line). And this is totally Broadway!!!

Eglė the Queen of Snakes is one of the most famous Lithuanian folk tales. Of course, whites, Finns, Slavs and other groups of nations have similar motifs in their folklore with more than a hundred different versions of this tale. The plot, structure, composition and other elements of the tale can be taken from Indo-European mythology. You‘re probably right that it‘s not going to take the prize, but it‘s definitely an unforgettable song and performance. I love songs like these where the music and performance work so perfectly well together that it does not need anything else to draw the audience in.
That's what it is. >>> Sea foam, ocean foam, beach foam, or spume is a type of foam created by the agitation of seawater, particularly when it contains higher concentrations of dissolved organic matter (including proteins, lignins, and lipids) derived from sources such as the offshore breakdown of algal blooms.
“Black foam” its mean sea foam, when vawes big, and come in the shore with white foams. So in this song it means sadness, because he never come back, and come with black foam 😊
I'm Lithuanian. You have to interpret the lyrics to understand the song. She can't sleep, thinking about him. Knock knock knock - Her heart rate is crazy. She sees a loved one in horror sleep. He is like a clown laughing at her crying yes. Moments are spinning in her head, She remembers a gift of million roses - everything vanishes in a sea of clouds. He drowned. This was my favourite from Eurovision 2022. Thought it deserved a better placing than 14 - though I have to admit, she had some very stiff competition. The standard was quite high this year.
Beautiful review🥰
Thank you 🤗
Thank you💝💃💐👌🥰👌💛💚❤
You‘re probably right that it‘s not going to take the prize, but it‘s definitely an unforgettable song and performance. I love songs like these where the music and performance work so perfectly well together that it does not need anything else to draw the audience in.
This is Judy Garland of 2022 !! .. Amazing
A really good song
That's what it is. >>> Sea foam, ocean foam, beach foam, or spume is a type of foam created by the agitation of seawater, particularly when it contains higher concentrations of dissolved organic matter (including proteins, lignins, and lipids) derived from sources such as the offshore breakdown of algal blooms.
Amaizing song and reation to.
Thank you very much
Sooooo good!
He drowned.
The only thing that remains of him is BLACK FOAM from the COLD sea and MEMORIES standing in the middle of dunes of Nida
and waiving to a seagull
so far, far away...
We might not understand the language, but she transmits a lot! we are feeling it!
