    I just want to say that Ive been doing these 7 day cycles of exercises for about two years.They WORK!! The thing to remember is to go slowly and CONSISTENTLY…DAILY... and look forward to considerable vocal musical quality. The real YOU emerges and you dont need to imitate or compare yourself to others, famous or non. Bravo to Anna et al. I’m now asked to sing at venues I never expected.

    Thank you for being so generous to us Singers out there. These videos increases my libido. Thank you for these free lessons; you don't know how your generosity has helped me to hope. Plus, the freedom expressions you and Mark use to help us to laugh and loosen up has given me, and so many others, joy (when times are rough). God has given you all a gift to aspire people to sing to the Lord and inspire others. Thank you again, Deborah from Kalispell, Montana

      I took voice lessons for years and I'm not familiar with any of these exercises! I have to keep listening and trying for about three days before I get them right. It's hard to just listen when you want to sing! Sometimes you have to though, to start out.

      Anu Rakh. I agree with you. Anna has "brought me on" considerably (I started with these lessons in mid July of this year. I have always loved to sing but through Verba I have learned to breathe properly which you will know is SO SO important and necessary in order to hold all those notes and long practices. Let's not forgot Mark here with his wonderful accompaniments.

    The fact that you smile as the second to last excercise goes higher always makes me smile too because I remember what I thought the first time I went throught it: "Are you for real? THAT high?!" xD
    Am I overdoing it? I go through 3 or 4 excercise videos one after another almost on daily basis xD

    • @VerbaVocal
      @VerbaVocal  7 років тому +13

      +Arturo Sánchez Haha, just song as high as you are comfortable with, then with time you'll find you range increases naturally. In terms of overdoing things, it depends on the videos you are using. If each one is training a different part of the voice then there's no reason you can't do a few. But if you voice starts to feel tired or sore then you should call it a day! :-)

    People always told me that it doesn't matter if it doesn't sound pretty, what matters is doing it right and having no tension. After almost two months, now I can make it sound a little more pretty that it was before, in a better tone, with a lot less tension, a little bit higher (can almost make it through the end being a baritone) and can keep my breath control better. I'm proud and thankful.

    Have been using your original Daily warm exercise for the last 2 years and have just tried day 1 of the weekly program, I found it challenging with breath retention and control and also felt croaky at times. I think this series is designed to do this and to push ones voice out of the comfort zone to strengthen it, so am looking forward to using this in conjunction with the original warm up class. Your such a character Anne and seem so playful but yet very professional, keen to see some results over the next few months. Warm regards from the Sunshine Coast Australia

    Hi Anna and Mark, I've said thanks somewhere before but I'll say it again: thanks so much for your videos! A year ago I was returning to singing from a break after stopping due to work and study abroad and hitting a G5 was a struggle, let alone making it sound full and nice. I was tempted to give up after getting rejected from an amateur audition for a free student concert and getting frank feedback about a horrible-sounding voice. I thought all that hard work I did, singing aged 6 to 21 for hours and hours a week, and I'm back to square one after just a year in the Middle East, because I couldn't find a choir to join, and how can I ever get back to that level unless I take another 15 years, so why bother? Then I found your videos and Anna said anyone can train the voice! Why not re-train mine, I thought? I've done something several times a week along with rep. and I can now sing a decent B5, and I've also noticed I can sing for long phrases when I was constantly having to breath mid-phrase before. And do you know what? My voice is better than before the break! Having been one of the weaker-sounding sopranos in the choir this time last year, I'm now a soloist at my Oxford College chapel choir: all thanks to your videos! I'm excited to think what I could achieve if I start doing them every day! All the very best from your fan in Oxford xx

      Caroline Hawthorne. I have used this site since July 2017 and it has helped me enormously in every aspect - breathing, eliminating voice breaks etc. Hope it does the same for you Caroline. Sounds as if you are enjoying it already, so good luck. My main genre is musical theatre and I have sung a little in the light operatic field. I sing other styles too because a range of different styles is good practice but MT remains my top one. Regards.

      Hey RoseTheory :) I really feel you. What has helped me was to go to a karaoke room during their $1 happy hour times. Look around your area to see if you can find a place like this. Another thing I have done, not so much for singing, but for practicing guitar, was book a study room at the library. I have even booked a couple in a single day before.
      You can also join a local choir and practice with other supportive and passionate people. All singing activities you take on will ultimately support you and provide inspiration for you to develop your style when you sing your own stuff or cover others' songs.
      Good luck and I hope you find a place. Don't give up!

    very, very helpful as now! I know what to expect from a good vocal teacher & company. I went to one and all she taught me was a trill and nothing else, every single lesson and this was in Manhattan connected with (not to mention names) a well known vocal teacher in California, what a waste of time and money, not knowing what to expect.

    I feel hopeless. I can't go high at all without going into falsetto and my voice is cracking all the time. Great exercises and I enjoy them. I just feel like I'm not gonna learn to sing the way I want to sing. What do i do?

    • @dianeshepherdlyricsoprano1394

      The main way to stop voice breaks Ellinor, is to get your breathing correct. Take in a deep breath (your stomach will expand) - then when you start to sing, let the breath out very slowly and your stomach will go back in. In this way you are working your diaphragm - doing it properly is vital in order to sing. If your stomach is not working as described, with the breathing, just train it to do so. It will come before you know it. If you don't already know, alcohol is bad for the voice and vocal chords as it dries them out and it is also wise to cut down on dairy products including milk. To sing in a morning is not the best way because whilst you sleep you are losing vital moisture. I always begin after lunch time. I hope I haven't pushed in here, but I love to help people if I possibly can. Good luck to you.

    • @elli.0205
      @elli.0205 6 років тому

      Thank you so much! I knew about the breathing and I think I do it correct but maybe I have to practice more. I don't drink alcohol or that much milk so that is probably not one of the problems. Every time I sing high notes my voice goes into screaming. I think that happens because of tension in my throat and I don't understand how to sing with relaxed muscles. It's really nice of you to help people, maybe you can help me again? (:

    • @dianeshepherdlyricsoprano1394
      @dianeshepherdlyricsoprano1394 6 років тому +1

      That's great news that you know about alcohol and milk.

      Hi Ellinor. Great news that you don't drink alcohol. I take a good teaspoonful of honey before I start to sing after warm ups, although I drink plenty of water throughout all the singing. I would guess you do that. The honey has antiseptic qualities and will keep the throat lubricated. It probably is because of tension, as you thought, that is stopping you reach those high notes. Remember these things take time. When I was trying to reach Top C in the beginning, I got there but it was too screechy. I just gave it time and lo and behold I got there and now it is much easier. You need to push a little to reach high notes but the moment your throat feels even slightly sore, you must STOP. Maybe rest it until the next day or the day after that. Have you done the Voice classification test on Verba? It's pretty good. I learned I was Mezzo Soprano but now my upper and lower voice registers have extended considerably and that Top C is second nature now. My high voice is stronger that my lower voice so I have been working on the latter. Did you know that your head voice is actually the voice controlled by your diaphragm breathing, and your chest voice is controlled by taking shorter breaths in through your chest (makes sense!) I don't wish to tell you things you may already know, but when I think of something useful, I just pass it on. I sing mostly musical theatre and I was a little restricted with some songs, but I can sing them with ease now. It gets easier reaching high notes, it really does, if you are prepared to put in time and work. I could tell you more in the way of singing, but at the moment I won't put too much on you. As well as vocal warm ups of course, you need to exercise your tongue route, and do arm and neck exercises. I'm not joking here - it all goes towards perfecting your singing. If I can help with anything else, I really don't mind you asking - any time. I could talk about singing all day long. Bye for now and always treat your throat with respect.
