    Never seen this before so thank you for sharing. My problem is I've never seen an oil filter that accessible!

    • @CFarmer
      @CFarmer  2 роки тому +12

      Yea, seems like there's always something in the way

      Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't. A lot of machinery and bigger trucks have easy access filters. Some passenger vehicles will also have enough clearance for this method. I think the newer the car, the tighter the engine bay though. This tip worked a charm for me.

      On my 2013 Chevy Malibu it has a metals cover covering half the surface of the filter almost like a shield the manufacturers do this so you have to pay for someone to do it for you but there’s always a way to do something yourself sometimes it’ll be a little harder but it’s worth it

    • @CFarmer
      @CFarmer  2 роки тому

      I agree, I've never looked at the one on a Malibu but there's usually a way. May have to take the shield off. I have to take the skid plate off to grease my truck.

    • @1capatter
      @1capatter Рік тому +1

      Yea, my daughter's RAV4 gives me no room (that's after taking off the shield). It's always a pain when I change her oil. Every car is different. I did my neighbor's Hyundai Santa Fe for her, and the oil filter was under the hood.

    I didn’t have enough room to get my breaker bar in there so I wrapped the excess strap around the S hook and was able to pull on the strap with both hands. Like climbing a rope. IT CAME LOOSE IMMEDIATELY! Thank you for the video. Got me out of a jam on my Mazda cx90.

    Mate..... I owe you a beer! This tip got me out of a bind.
    I just tried this on a tractor hydraulic filter that was well and truly fused. For extra grip, I ended up stretching a small section of a motorcycle inner tube between the strap. I almost had to stand on a small pry bar to get it to turn but it worked!

    You saved my butt today. Tried this on my Toyota SUV where there isn't enough room for large channel locks. I keep forgetting to pick up an oil filter wrench at the store so decided to give this a try. I used a strap like yours but room is tight so I used a wrench for the handle and it worked like a charm. It was a bit tricky getting it on with one hand but once I got it in place I was able to just pull up on the wrench and get more torque on it rather than trying to twist it with my wrist. Thanks for the idea! I won't forget this one.

    Thank you sir! I purchase oil filter pliers, two of the fancy wrenches that grab the filter and squeeze. I also broke a corded drill, nearly burnt up my impact drill and broke one of the new wrenches in the process. But this trick you showed us work like a charm!
    I will never forget this trick and when my son grows up and over tightens the oil filter on his car like his dad did when he was young ill be happy to show him this trick.

    Tried the trick out it works, you just have to be careful as it can also damage the filter if you pressure is in the wrong spot. Great hack was in the middle of an oil change and used it damaged the filter a little bit I got it off.

      @@CFarmer I plan to change the original oil in my Kubota and wanted to see how tight the filter was. I have a strap like tool that you use with a standard 3/8" ratchet. I forgot I had it! It was tight but I was able to loosen it without too much effort.
