A10 after being hard stuck gold in ow1 and now at masters 1 I cannot tell you how much you've helped me improve, keep up the amazing work dude + algorithm
I wouldn't put it all down to rank inflation, going from 2400sr to masters 1 70% winrate solo queue I have definitely improved significantly. This was also season 3 before any ranks got increased from seasonal decay fixes
@@bbpoItergeist nah I went from plat to diamond from inflation, started playing seriously and went to GM5. Definitely playing at at least a high masters OW1 level now.
@@bbpoItergeist people keep saying this but somehow blizzard says rank distribution was actually the opposite, worse than target and they fixed it. As always, ppl who say this shit think everyones rank is inflated but theirs, its mostly spread by toxic streamers who can't accept its not always their teammates fault.
As a support main in OW2 I find it very difficult to sway my matches in any way, and I know that's a skill issue, but thank you for giving me the motivation to fix my skill issue!
I feel the same. I stopped maining support because I felt helpless. Now could it just be that I suck and I am making all the wrong decisions and not being self aware enough? Probably. But DPS is more fun, less work, and feels more impactful because there’s so many characters to switch to if something is giving you trouble. Good luck with climbing!
I completely understand what you guys are saying. When I played comp I was a ~3900 tank/fps, and when I play those roles in like plat id easily win. But when I play support in plat/gold/dmnd most of my matches are very close, and my team is real bad lol
Definitely feel like I'm stuck in that counter-picking phase because I feel the need to forcefully deter an enemy that's giving me and my team problems, but never stopped to think and realize that the pick alone doesn't matter, but to know how to use the character itself and how to specifically counter said character as mine. Thank you for this video, maybe it's time to call myself Jeff.
@@willmcclard206 I’ve noticed as a doom 1 trick I win almost every game where they swap Orisa, Sombra, Hog etc Ana even. Players that are not skilled enough at their hero to adapt and sacrifice their ult charge and expertise on a hero to play another “counter” are almost never going to be good enough to beat me as a guy who just plays doom and is used to adapting to all that. At some point it’s more comfortable because I have the most practice there, and they lower their practice. It’s only annoying to face sombra for example if they are already on sombra because that’s their main.
A10 Thank you for your amazing content. The concepts you are teaching are actually helping. I had a long journey all the way from plat to GM and you with your tipps and unranked to GM vods played a big part in that.
I’ve watched so much of your content and it’s helped me climb from gold to masters 1 in like 150 ish hours (would’ve been quicker but I have a very hard time actively thinking while I play but I’m getting better), especially the ow1 tracer guide I watched it while I grinded out some of my coursework and I love your style and mental. Gonna be shooting for GM tomorrow and I just wanted to say thank you for being a beacon of positivity during my comp grind, wouldn’t have been able to do it without you :3
You are probably my favourite content creator for breaking down your thought processes. PLEASE keep doing these. I will like every one for whatever that helps you, just to say thank you for what you bring to us
Just got to diamond for the first time and I think part of the reason is that I picked up LOL during the downtime between OW1 and OW2. You have to learn to manage cooldowns if you want to get anywhere in that game and I think it transferred over to OW well.
Your content has helped me a lot! I’ve deff gotten stuck on the counter picking and played heroes I’m not as good at just bc of the matchup before. Will deff not worry about that as much going forward.
Good video. One-tricking got me to a higher rank than I thought I could ever get. Flexing off that hero onto maining another got me even higher. Those heroes are Lucio then Brig
that is the WAY brother. I did it with Bap first and now with ana. Really helps you start to legit understand how the game works. But I still learn new shit from a10 all time lol.
The positive of playing more/many heroes is that you get to figure out what works against it by playing it then just playing against it. You also learn team comp on a broader basis instead of just sticking with 1 or 2 heroes. But for sure playing more heroes does take a higher time and thought investment for the same rank. But if you have a team to play with it can also help since you can switch against a good comp what is good. Not everyone have the mechanics, strategy, tactics or game knowledge to play one hero to win their games. Sometimes it's better to swap to remove the loss and get a win rather then just take the loss and move on. Because some people do not actively learn from their loses and just spam games.
The idea is whether you win or lose that game it's worthless if it didn't help you improve. Who cares about wins and losses, when you can just improve on your hero pool, 1 or 2 heroes, and actually acquire the skill necessary to climb ranks. Why do you care whether you reached Plat but now your opponents get too hard and you fell back down to Gold 1 even though you are winning easy games and getting lucky with the MM. Why not just get good, then not be a low Plat player and actually climb because you are better than the players due to your experience and skill with those certain heroes no matter the match up. At the end of the day what he says is pretty true. Sure you'll eventually get good at those 5 heroes, but the amount of time it takes, everyone else is getting better than you and you stay in line with the average player for your skill's improvement, thus you never climb.
@@GriFFonRec4 The first 4 sentences are true regardless of how many heroes you play. In fact you get more swings the smaller your hero pool is, with patches, metas and maps. The knowledge isn’t siloed per hero, a gm 1 soldier isn’t bronze 5 macree. Which is why A10 repeats the same points for all heroes, all classes and all maps. The learning rate of a new perspective is much easier to play the hero. If this was not the case, then we wouldn’t have role queue. We would have hero queue where everyone queues up with their hero of choice. How many unraked to GMs of sym are there compared to easier heroes which fit better into the meta? So many more. Which means that sometimes one tricking is harder then just playing another character. I mean you could one trick yourself to gm if you want. But if you want to improve why handicap yourself?
there's a ton of people who won't believe it when i say you can play around your counters most of the time 😔 I just switched from maining rein/winston for 2 years to dva lately! it's been a long struggle getting my tracking up to scratch+being unable to bail myself out so easily, but the tips in your unranked to gm helped immensely. looking forward to being a sick dva someday
Absolutely true, and it's so funny when it happens in matches -like I'll climb my ass out from gold to masters mainly playing Pharah, and the most common phrase I heard during all my gold and plat games was "they have 2 hitscan u should switch off Pharah". Yea but those two hitscan players don't have half the hours combined on their heroes compared to what I have on Pharah, and my winrate reflects it. But people will still not believe it no matter how well you play, and they bring this mindset to their own playstyle and plateau in the counterpick role that will never get them out of their rank. Counterpicking can work, but should not be a defining trait of how you seek value in your matches.
Right off the bat the first "lesson" is a hindsight herold. You dont go into ranked and just "trust your ana". Id rather use a cooldown somewhat unoptimally then wait for the perfect moment that is unreasonable and does not exist. You can never forsee holding your shift for your genji who is mid air. Thats stupid.
Set a dedicated training schedule, as in, play the same amount at the same times with the same warmups etc. every day you can. For example, Good night of sleep. Eat nutritious meal. 5 min try hard FFA warmup, 5 min vaxta 5 min try hard again Queue ranked for 1hr. 5 min break Queue ranked for 1hr 5 min break Queue ranked for 1hr 5 min vod review. Finish. Then pick like 1 thing per week you think you could do a little better at and keep thinking of it while you are playing. Tldr, top 500 players are playing more than you and more consistently across their like avg 3 accounts. Develop a strategy to gain hours as effectively as possible.
Is Performance based mmr still in the lower ranks? Or is it only win/loss? Im getting mixed results in comp and no one I've seen has a reputable source in ow2.
Yeah it’s never been performance based. I did hear that rumor when I started ow2 though, but I only ever heard it from very low rank players as I was going up the ladder

Not to be an ass, but again I could go into like any rank as any character and go “positive” and still lose. It has so little to do with anything, however if it’s a pattern that you’re always having low deaths when you lose, it’s almost certainly related to that. I don’t know your games in particular, but I coach a lot of players, and I’ve seen this ego serving pattern a lot of times. “My stats are good, team feeds” or “I have no deaths and all these elims”. I wish I could say I don’t see this behavior in GMs, but it still comes up sometimes. HOWEVER, the attitude is a plague in low rank. Almost half the players I coach under masters says something like this, very often supports. And it’s almost always 95% a symptom of passivity, in my experience. You might not put yourself into the situations that could result in your death in exchange for value, and might be instead constantly opting for low risk low reward, or no risk no reward plays that simply inflate your stats but have no game impact.
