Aliyah I know! I looked so hard for a tutorial without added hair lol. Since My hair really shrinks and is fine, I just put the band on once and leave it puffed in the back.

I love how this shows that there are options for those of us with 4a/b/c hair to achieve sleek styles with the right tools + products. Ecostyler isn't the healthiest for long-term use, but I will give that AIA smoothing gel and GHD brush a try.

I wish it was this simple to create and sleek my buns. My hair is so thick! I break ponytail holders, lose grip of my hair and can never get rid of the lumps and bumps. Anyone have any suggestions on good gels to combat frizzy hair? Your hair is really growing and flourishing. Love it!!
Try it on wet hair and use foam to set it along with a gel. I use ic fantasia gel with aloe. Since you have a hard time griping your hair. Try splitting your hair in half or thirds and make small ponytails overlapping with the ponytail holders. I hope I made sense.
Marque Kander Thank you for your response! Trying it on wet hair is something I have not tried. I always stretch it first (dry overnight) and then style. Gripping it is difficult because of the thickness. I've found sections are my best bet otherwise trying to gather my whole head is a waste of time. I've been hearing about the IC gel but I've been committed to Eco for a long time. I'm definitely going to try it. Thanks again! 😃
“Form” the bun on wet hair with a denman/paddle brush to get all lumps out, smooth the hair with castor oil (secret weapon, provides hold and gives you that “slick” look) and use the gel as a finisher alternating the two as needed. Once your hair is gathered u want to switch to a (mens) soft boar bristle wave brush to do the smoothing. I like first to put my hair in a loose ponytail while smooth & brush then take it off and reapply it tightly when ive got my hair as slick as i want it. Ecostyler (argan, castor or olive oil) is the best gel for hold, also like mielle organics gel. Mandatory you tie it down with a scarf until it sets. Use those black elastic headbands to hold your bun instead of reg elastics.

They've all given you some great tips. I have the same problem with frizz but I discovered a product combination to combat frizz when I'm doing a bun. Try the ecostyle gel (olive oil or castor oil works best for me) and put Shea Moisture curl enhancing smoothie over it and brush with a bristle brush. It creates a paste that will hold the hair down and control frizz and surprisingly dries and leaves shine to the hair. I will be white for a few minutes but it goes away and dries clear. Also another product I discovered that will control the frizz and help keep your hair smooth in the bun is the Taliah Waajid Curly Curl Cream. It's what I've been using the most lately and I love it. I hope this helps.

Not sure how you got your hair so smooth without adding layers of gel. I can never just add gel to the top layer. I have to add some to the centre too. Love the outcome and the relaxed vibe 🙌🏾😘 super pretty

Fine hair can get away with it:) Its also technique. Try smoothing gently with denman brush first, then go over with medium bristle brush.
