I sketched in highschool, I'm 63 now, and it's all coming back to me. The painting is new, combining it is very nice. I've seen this before in very old magazines from my mom's day, it was a popular in advertizing.
Thank you. I have watching you for a A while now and I have never really made a comment but that was so simple and easy and clean and precise thank you again🖌🎨
I'm so glad you had such fun ink&painting this for us, all the while delivering such important and key (to me) information. Exactly fits my needs at this point in my watercolour journey. Many thanks, Karen!
Thank you for bringing joy and playfulness at a moment when watercolours are looking like a problem for me. Do you know of anyone else who got a burning sensation on their lips, as well as in their eyes and throat from just painting, not spattering? Would you know what caused it - added biocides or a synthetic surfactant, perhaps? I reacted to Daniel Smith tube paints, the worst one being phthalo blue. It would be sad not to be able to paint at all, so I would be very grateful for any information on alternatives. Also, please accept my condolences for the passing of your Queen.
Living in a commonwealth country I have deep respect for the Queen. My great grandparents emigrated to Canada in the late 1800’s and the respect they felt for the monarchy allowing them to move to a country free from persecution has been passed down to this day. Line and Wash is something I’d love to get better at and so thanks for the tutorial!
Your drawing is so free! I have to draw with pencil otherwise I can't correct anything. Great video, something to work towards. I am intrigued by the shading techniques for drawing, I find it hard to know how to do this.
Hi Karen thanks so much for this tutorial! it came out great! I was wondering, is there a name for the style of painting used for the couple under the umbrella? I really like the style and want to replicate it with other types of drawings but would be great to see some others with this style (especially with the india ink and spackling and is seen in the original reference photo) for inspiration. thank you! Megan
Thank you so much! I’m not sure what the style is called. It’s kind of my own loose style. However, if you like this kind of style, I recommend the artist Quentin Blake. He has the most amazing loose sketchy style which I think you would like. Hope this is helpful:-)
Great video Karen but i'm having no luck signing in to your Patrion members page and don''t receive the re-settilng link. Been trying 2 weeks while watching reg. videos.

I loved this tutorial. I have found that using pigma micron pens work best on hot pressed or smooth paper. They get ruined fast on cold press or rough paper. What paper are using when painting this couple under umbrella? Thank you, Karen
Sizi Isvec Stockholm den takip ediyorum. HARIKASINIZ.. Cok sey ögreniyorum. Sevgiyle takip ediyorum. Buyuk bir zevk ve ayni zamanda renklerle oynamak muthis bir terapi. Sevgiler.
Specially the microns hate wet paper I wasted i donno how many of m prior till that light went on used as I was to sketching in with tombow. But even cheap wc markers dont always appreciate wet paper; you can scribble on plastic sheet and wet tho. I have a simon says stamp of a figure in current weather; im like hey one is dutch, cant go wrong with that stamp, result; a bloody heatwave for months 🥵
I've recently stopped using the micron brand as I feel the quality controll has taken a real dive. I'm using permacollor now. Do you have any recommendations for another brand?

So intrigued by the twig! Lovely variety, with refrains of repetition!
This video has inspired me to get into line and wash. I like the looseness of it all. Thank you.👍
Thank you Karen for showing us how to keep it simple. The richness shows through better.
Condolences on the passing of your Queen Elizabeth ❤

Thank you so much Caroline. it all comes with practice and I find regularly drawing in a sketchbook builds confidence 😀
What do you think about a glass pen. I just purchased one and it’s gorgeous but I found it challenging as the ink didn’t flow well
Hi Jacqui, great question... I have not used a glass pen as yet. I do really like using the fineliner drawing pens.

Hi Carol, thank you for sharing, I am using a sketchbook, CP surface, not too textured, perfect for line and wash 😀
I love doing line and wash on Yupo paper.
WORD OF WARNING: Do not use Micron pens on Yupo. They will bleed. Use a ultrafine Sharpie.
Thanks for the tip 😊

Enjoyed the introduction. Did find the sketch difficult to follow.
Nice!
Many heartfelt condolences on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II . The world has lost an icon, so very sorry

Thank you for sharing! You could use a twig dipped in Indian ink to use on damp paper or mapping pen 😀
@@KarenRiceArt nah i think i will just go for a fountainpen. Oldschool. Dip and go.

Derwent or UniPin or Faber Castell
@KarenRiceArt thank you kindly! I do enjoy your content. Thanks again!
