Doomsday cage backstage meeting: Everybody but Hogan: "What are the rules?" Hogan: "I win. We'll call the rest in the ring, brother". Everybody else: "Whatever, let's get this over with."
Think of the many times wrestlers looked badass smacking foes with steel chairs or baseball bats and then throw that away when you see the Not-So-Mega Powers thwacking a bunch of heels with frying pans.
Heenan has a great call during the Doomsday Cage Match, at one point he says “What a great thing for television!” And he’s right, it’s pretty impressive watching on TV but you have to imagine most of the live audience couldn’t see a damn thing with the big cage being up by the entrance.
Giant Haystacks at this point was becoming ill and left shortly after this match and sadly passed away. Being sick was what caused him to lose the match up to Hulk Hogan. I can't remember, but I think he had cancer during this time. He was a huge guy at 6'11" and had a heart that matched his girth. He was known to be very nice and very giving.
It's amazing how close this cartoonish match and the debut of the nWo is. In your mind they feel far away because of the crazy tonal shift that happens but damn they were close.
It's fun watching the split screen matches when you remember how small and crappy most of our TV's were back then. You could hardly see what was going on.
Imagine showing this PPV to a young fan who's never seen WCW but knows about Impact, WWE or AEW, and telling them that company almost put the WWE out of business.
This was the absolute Nadre of the hulkamania era in WCW. Whatever bump Hogan gave them in 1994 was beginning to die out, and I think WWF was starting to win more ratings at this time. It took the complete change of tone with the Outsiders to help WCW shoot above the WWF
@@johnepantshe's telling you at the end of the videos what the ratings are and they're pretty even for the most part back and forth. The last episode WCW had a 3.6 while raw had a 2.9
I went to this show when I was like 13-14 years old. I honestly couldn’t remember much of the undercard. I actually hadn’t been into wrestling for a few years, but a friend of mine who was a huge fan had an extra ticket. I had been a big fan of Sting when I was younger, so I was really excited to see him and the idea of the cage match sounded really unique. Man… did it really suck. I remember that it felt like Sting wasn’t in half the match because he kept leaving the ring. And it was impossible to see anything going on in the cage. Our seats were in the nosebleeds anyway, so it was hard to see much of anything, but the mid-to-upper levels of the cage were in the same line of sight as the lights. We were either blinded or could only see vague shadows. Thankfully, we didn’t miss much. 😅
My parents took my brother and I to see this show. My brother was 3. I was 5. Can never find us when I watch it back. Even though we were close to the ring. The size of loch Ness and the Giant, and my brother and I repeatedly asking our parents what was going on during the main event, only to be repeatedly told that they didn't know, are the only things I remember.
I preferred Eddie as a Heel, when he was trying to teach Chavo how to cheat and stuff and his reaction when Chavo shouts in the ring "Hey look Eddie, i'm cheating to win" and Eddie looks like "Dude, you're not suppose to be announcing it"
Konnan vs Eddie Guerrero 2:34 Finley vs regal 4:39 beefcake vs ddp 7:29 Loch nest vs giant 9:56 Sting booker vs road warriors 13:56 Doomsday cage 24:56
I don't want imagine if Booty Man did a 3rd chinlock in that match. Also, fun fact: WWE's Great American Bash '06 (aka ELEVATED LIVER ENZYMES) would see Steve/William Regal and Fit Finlay in a "rematch" and even Nick Patrick would also be the ref for that one. Wrestling is funny sometimes.
When Animal hit Luger backstage, Luger's reaction is hilarious! "Look at me Jimmy, Ahhhh". Ryan didn't show and explain it enough but please watch it on your own time for a good laugh.
Stings face paint looked BAF! How did he come up with these intricate face paint designs over all those years?! They were almost never the same and always looked cool AF!

The commentary on the Page v Bootyman match sent me! The disgust and frustration was palpable through my computer screen. 😂ETA: And you were so annoyed that you called Kimberly "Elizabeth" at one point. 😆
Another great stroll down memory lane; best part for me is where you had Tony, Dusty and maybe even Bobby Heenen shout out the Bootyman's signature move when he applied it to win the match.
looking at the doomsday cage, I can only imagine that it would've been a lot more exciting if you had younger guys willing to take crazy bumps and guys who specialize in hardcore wrestling. Hell, I could see the modern day guys having a ball coming up with spots to do in this match, no doubt one of them would go through the floor of the upper level. The rules and cage itself would need to be tweaked for modern day but it could definitely work, don't know how you fix the live audience issue though.
Doomsday cage would’ve worked if they had a reason to go up to the top tier. Such as the world title or a money in the bank type match. Where one would have to go get it and bring it back down to escape the cages. So maybe a fatal four, 6, or 8 wrestlers to battle it out.
Haystacks time in WCW was a really sad ending to what was an absolute legend of the British wrestling scene. I still remember to this day watching him and Big Daddy fighting way back in 82/83.
