I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.
Awesome, I hate that there are some garbage utubers out there with more subscribers, u guys are easily the most informative and fun to watch tight lines
Totally agree on this comment👍👍👍. I'm starting to get back into fishing again and I've learned a shit load!!! Plus their passion really makes you want to fish!!!!
I'm a Shimano man from almost 50 years, both spinning and baitcast ,and I have several Curado 200e7 e5 Calcuttas and just got the New Curado 200 HG K and it's better than the "greenies" and I love all of mine....Happy to see and hear you sing their praises. I'm gonna get another K right after the first of the year, for early early spring fishing. I'm thinking about trying out the Curado Baitcaster also...TightLines
I bought 2 of them about 3 weeks ago and I love them. I bought the 8.5:1 gear ratio and plan to get a few more in the other speeds. So far no complaints. I have about a dozen of the 200i series and they are also great reels.
i like this new model. the svs brakes have been upgraded to the same setup as the 70, chronarch mgl, and metanium mgl. plus the side plate does not come completely off compared to the 70 as it still has that spring-loaded bar that allows the side plate to swing out of the way.
Matt you have a future selling Shimano products! I already have over 20 curados....even the red ones that came out 20 years ago and you made me want one of these in the 8:1!!! Hahahahaha
Just coped one of those joints the other day and had to take it back. It sounded like crap so I traded it in for yup you guessed it the same exact reel. Just in the 8/1. We love Shimano reels it’s all we throw. Haven’t sacked up and got one of the MGL yet but it’s coming
I got a 200 last year and love it. might have to get one of these. got a okuma Helios couple months ago I recommend this reel as well.very smooth and ultra light
I like to spend under $200 on my reels. I used to use the old bantum chronarch 100 s and a few of the old green curados . When shimano redesigned all their reels a while back . I felt that i had to spend a lot more money to get the same quality and great casting. So i switched to lews .I had a chronarch 200e and it was a disappointment. The chronarch model before that in my opinion was junk. I know guys who just wore those things out. The finish didn’t last and the were heavy. Some of the new reels out now has sparked my interest and this curado looks like a winner. Thinking of getting me one!
If you set the drag, and brakes u won’t ever birdsnest, it casts great and handles fish amazing it’s an overall 9/10 for me and would recommend for beginners
William johnson I have both the revo sx and the curado I and the curado is hands down a better reel. the only thing the revo has over it is 21 lbs of drag as compared to the 11 or 12 lbs of the curado
Tony Dulac I also have an older curado that is a nice reel but I just feel more confident with a Revo. It's personal preference I think. I win tournaments with a revo so they can't be all that bad.
William johnson + Tony Dulac Im not arguing about what reel is better im just voicing my opinion. The revo alx which is I believe 60 or 70 more dollars is a work horse at only 5.5 ounces. Believe me because i took it to okeechobee and flipped some mean stuff
I just shipped my curados out to get painted matte black 😑😑😑. This reel looks sweet however - I think the Daiwa Tatula has won me over. If you want a smooth reel try those out. The drag system might be weaker than the curados but they cast much farther and don't have to be opened to adjust the braking system. Most of my reels lose their smoothness after a few months due to the heavy saltwater use but the Tatulas are still awesome reels. Oh, also not as feather light as the curdos. That's one draw back. I'll still order some K's but give the tat a whirl.
I got four of the ct100s for 100 bucks each!!! Been banging on them all season!! I am still a Shimano nut but the smoothness is too much to turn away!!!
I actually went to Tatulas after not really liking how the Curado I felt in hand. Have two CT's and an SV, the latter of which handles lightweight baits incredibly well and is, for me, a perfect jerkbait reel. Very nice reels that are very easy to manage line on. But....I just ordered a new Curado K because it looks like they reduced the dimensions in the areas that were bothering me before.
Matt I am really leaning towards this reel, the only thing that gives me pause is the max drag of 11 pounds. I live in Maine and the fish in Cali are bigger than ours. If you say the drag isn't a concern then I will be in. You use it on jigs with heavy line? Big hook sets it doesn't slip?
Hey man thanks for your comment. I just picked up 2 of these and ive been throwing a bullshad with it. Works flawlessly. I was curious if anyone was throwing bigger baits with it. 🤙
max theodor bartholin johnsen IMO , theyre identical ... as far as smoothness ... I like it so much I'm buying another Curado K 8:5:1 ... I don't think they can make any more improvement than they have and keep it under 200.00 ... it's almost as smooth as my Anterez ... by far for your money the best casting reel on the market ... buy one .. you'll love it...
Matt- I trust you man. I hope this reel is worth the price tag. Heard good and bad about shimano. I have always used okuma, lews and now I have a few 13 fishing.
I was ready to pay for that MM Gearing, but glad to see it come in at the same price point. Would've preferred straight black anodizing vs the green, but I get it.
the gearing should be referred of as "mid micro module" because it's not exactly the smallest gear tooth shimano has made as featured in their 'high end' reels.
Thanks for this video. I seen this reel for preorder at Tackle Warehouse. I been wondering if it is as good or better the Curado I. Well...off to order a few
Is a complete no-brainer. If you have experienced what the Micro Module Gearing feels like, man I am telling you, at this price point it will be a crime not to get this reel!! LOL. The first time I experienced what Micro Module Gearing felt like was on the Conquest and in terms of smoothness it blew everything right out of the water, so now that it has filtered all the way down to the Curado, you just have to get it. Initially, I was going to get the new Chronarch which has replaced the MGL spool for saltwater use, but I thought why? There is no reason to spend more when the Curado K already has Micro Module Gearing plus a 200 size spool which is important to me.
Hey guys, does the spool tension knob have the micro-clicks for adjustment or is it just smooth turning? Superb looking reel, I'm already a Shimano guy, gotta figure out how to get one of these into the fishing budget...
Matt, how does this reel compare to the Chronarch MGL? I was pretty sold on purchasing one in the near future, but after seeing this for $100 less I'm reconsidering just from appearances.
I think my Shimano casitas broke....... It makes weird noises and gets stuck on itself on every retrieve. Is this problem fixable? Great review by the wat
Been wanting to switch to Shimnano reels for a while, I've just been hesitating. I mainly use Lews as it stands now. Nothing wrong with them, I just wanted to give Shimano baitcasters another try(I have Shimano Stradic spinning reels in 2500/3000). This Curado K looks really interesting. At the end of the day I don't think it'll feel all that much different from a Curado I but I like the darker paint job and the slightly reduced reel size while keeping that 200 series spool. Even on my flipping/punching rigs I don't like fishing with anything lower than a 150, and I prefer a 200. I just like having a lot of line on the spool in case I need it. Call it a creature comfort I guess. I think I'm gonna buy a Curado I while it's on sale for $150 @ TW and then get the Curado K once it's released.
I paid 200 for a Lews Super Speed Spool for Brazil last year, the peacocks wrecked it but my Curado and Metanium survived just fine. For me this new Curado is a no brainer, my TranX 400 is a bit overkill to cast choppers seven days in a row.
Hi would like to know is this reel saltwater water approved... and it's max drag is 5 kg... So is it possible to use this for species like barramundi or groupers above 5 kg.
Hey guys! Great review. What rod would you pair with this for a good overall largemouth bass fishing setup? Thanks! Great vids as always and thanks for sharing the knowledge!!!
Looks killer I want one but love my revo's with the boca bearings cast a mile and smooth giving these 200k a try can't sleep trying to make up my mind between revo or curado on my next buy
Y'all really think it's better than the 200e models? If you do I'll have to get one but I haven't been very impressed with any of the curados they made after the 200e models. I've been hoping they would go back to making quality reels under $200.
+Ian McGonigal speaking for myself, The 200DHSV was my favorite. Then it was the E7, now it's this one. We haven't had it long enough to see ling term longevity but we pushed them really hard to try and find out. -Matt
TacticalBassin it is going to take a lot of pushing but you guys are ideal field test candidates. Micros market well but can they endure frequent shocking and punishing loads. Micro gears have a tendency to channel and spit lube under stress. While there are more smaller drive teeth in contact with the pinion there are still only two smaller teeth in full contact at single TDC pinion engagement. Theoretically micros make a 'new' gear mesh smoother but not stronger. BIG FISH are going to be the true test of this reels gear durability. I have to add that at this point I have no idea what alloy these gears are made of and I'm not familiar with their engineering specs. Catch me a 23 pounder and send me the gears and I will let you know how they test out lol. In a fishing reel application I would be concerned with catastrophic soft shape Factor loss over fracture and hard failures. I know you guys are very aware of the feeling of a reel that feels good until there's a big fish on the other end of it :-)
I just got mine yesterday and when turning the handle, I can hear the gears whine. Plus the handle doesn’t spin smoothly when tapping it. Should I be worry?
tactical bassin is it possible to skip a a plastic worm like I Texas rig yum dingers and I try to figure skipping out and can't seem to understand how if so can u please make a video
Iam looking for clutch bearing I thinks ws cleaning it and a small cylinder with 12 small metal objects fell all over the floor seeing if you know how to order it or what you recommend thanks
Off topic but knowing you guys history with Bullards Bar, what's your opinion on IGFA possibly reclassifying the latest world record spotted bass as an Alabama Bass?
+Joseph Keedy We knew they were pursuing it a few years ago. IMO it's a non-story. These are the same genetics that are in most of the country. It doesn't matter what they call them in the end or where they divide the lines. Kentucky or Alabama, they're the biggest in the world and we're blessed to fish for them.
The Micro Module from the Metanium down to the Chronarch MGL is supposed to be what version the Curado K has. The Calcutta Conquest and super high end Shimano's have even smaller teeth. I really wanna try my first Shimano, recently bought another Zillion SV instead of the new Chronarch MGL because of all the negative reviews. I plan on try one of these in the 7.4 for cranking, I just hope they end up well. I am very shocked they used a plastic levelwind pawl for the Curado K though, hell even $100 Daiwa's have that...
Im know you guys love shimano but really check out the 13fishing z reel. Looks awesome super new but don't know how stout they are .... Please check it out. I'm sure they are high end as well.
+Hammer Rough We'd love to get our hands on one. We do our best to try everything but none of our close circle of guys fishes with 13fishing for us to try them. We've been hearing the rumblings about the Project Z.
Man I wanna try one but I'm nervous of the drag being so low compared to lews and Revos. Can you guys after a year of having them tell me what you think? Can it handle 65lb braid/20lb flouro?
I had the Curado I and I couldn't jive with it ergonomically, because the rear 'hips' were a bit wide and the button (like on most Shimanos) is mounted kind of high so the rear corner dug into my thumb joint. It was a very well-made and smooth reel. Is the K model different in both dimensions from what you have noticed?
+Fugettaboutit I suspect that is exactly what they were going for with the reduction of body size plus increasing the size of the opening to the spool. I've never had a problem so I can't tell but I had a client develop issues quickly with one of my reels once and I suspect this shape would correct that.
Thanks much. Looking at comparable photos, it looks like it may be the case. I don't palm my reels and cover as much of it as other fisherman, so it probably bothered me more. Other smaller reels like the Aldebaran and Casitas are a bit easier, but that button still sort of sticks out. But if those areas are better on the new K, I'm definitely going with one.
TacticalBassin man I’m so torn ok my buddy just gifted me the dobyns champion pole and I matched it with the shimano k but after watching your videos I’m torn on which one might be better!! Thank you for your quick response and for whatever it’s worth I only depend on your videos for all my fishing information thank you have a great day!!
A quick question, there are some pictures of this paired with a rod i want to know the name of it, one is a g loomis and the other one i have no idea, if you guys know it please, please, please tell me i would really appreciate it
Leon Clark Rola It's the new curado rod. Specifically designed to match the new curado k reel. I just figured it out and wanted to tell you in case you haven't yet.
I love my E series you can tell the difference in quality between the E and I series. After 1 day of fishing the Curado I the parts start to develop rust spots and need more maintenance compared to the E series.
100% correct the E's where the last Curado line worth buying. I have quite a few in the e series and would not trade them for the crap that is put out nowadays...
Hello The d series were the best. imo the d series curados and chronarchs were the last of the good shimano reels, the original zillion was the last of the good daiwa rerls. Everything now is hyped up junk that doesn't last a week without the gears getting rough.
dolucks1 I'm not being a pussy. I happen to own a few heavy reels in the 7 ounce range and prefer lighter reels for sensitivity, not because they ware me out.
PCM24 97 The other curado they put out weighs 6 ounces. I know what reels are going to be like. I own a Citica which is a 7 ounce reel and a cronarch which weighs 6.
I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. wow that thing looks awesome
Ohh yea🤙🏻 also fan of the channel 🔥💪🏻👊🏻
Guys on here bashing shimanos is funny, they apartently have never owned one. I have fished for 34 years and they are the best reels made!
Interesting reel, new shimanos are unreal. Metanium ,antares and excence dc...those three are perfect..unbelievable gears and casting distance
Bass Gambler the excence dc is my dream punching reel
I'm a Shimano man from almost 50 years, both spinning and baitcast ,and I have several Curado 200e7 e5 Calcuttas and just got the

You'll enjoy the rod as well, they pair extremely well!
Thanks Matt, just preordered one at Tackle Warehouse and with the 15% off For the 4th, it was only $152.99! Sale ends 7/7/17.
Jason Moore their website says shimano is excluded from the sale?
+Josh 72 It always does. You can call in or just place the order... there are rules about advertising prices, not actual sales price ;-)
TacticalBassin I guess when I add the reel to my cart it'll show the discount?
I didn't notice until I checked my confirmation email. Maybe there was a mistake… hope not ;)
I bought 2 of them about 3 weeks ago and I love them. I bought the 8.5:1 gear ratio and plan to get a few more in the other speeds. So far no complaints. I have about a dozen of the 200i series and they are also great reels.
Awesome! Glad to hear you're enjoying them!
I got one about two weeks before it releases, reminds me of the metanium, smooth and versatile.
I'm a sales rep for my local tackle shop
i like this new model. the svs brakes have been upgraded to the same setup as the 70, chronarch mgl, and metanium mgl. plus the side plate does not come completely off compared to the 70 as it still has that spring-loaded bar that allows the side plate to swing out of the way.
this reel has me pumped.
Matt you have a future selling Shimano products! I already have over 20 curados....even the red ones that came out 20 years ago and you made me want one of these in the 8:1!!! Hahahahaha
Curados are hands down my favorite reel can't wait until Christmas to get one

That reel looks so rad! Great video and keep the videos coming!!! Awesome job Shimano
I recently fell in love with the Daiwa Tatula SV. Was planning on switching everything over but now I gotta check out the new curados!!
If you set the drag, and brakes u won’t ever birdsnest, it casts great and handles fish amazing it’s an overall 9/10 for me and would recommend for beginners
I’m late to this, but I hope to get this as a Christmas gift so this was very helpful.
I fish Revo's but after watching this, you sold me on needing one. Thanks Matt, now I have to deal with my wife asking why I need another reel😜😜😜
I also fish revos but i will not buy any other reel because the revos fit my fishing. The alx and mgxtreme are my favorite
William johnson I have both the revo sx and the curado I and the curado is hands down a better reel. the only thing the revo has over it is 21 lbs of drag as compared to the 11 or 12 lbs of the curado

o they're definitely not bad I'm just saying the curado is a better reel. personal preference does play a role as well.
William johnson + Tony Dulac Im not arguing about what reel is better im just voicing my opinion. The revo alx which is I believe 60 or 70 more dollars is a work horse at only 5.5 ounces. Believe me because i took it to okeechobee and flipped some mean stuff

I picked up a tatula at bass pro and it just felt dingy the handle has lots of play when you reeled in plastic drag star, just didn't feel nice at all
ACDCRD play can be caused by various things. my lews bb1 has in and out handle play but is still great
Hard to beat a Curado...well done Matt
Head's up for y'all wanting to get this real. I have the Okuma Helios, it is matte black as well. That sucker gets HOT in the sun.
Workhorse reel. Love mine. 👍🏻
Actually a good swimbait reel I've thrown baits up to 8 ounces no problems wit mine but I normally use it for baits between like 1 to 5 ounces
Hey man thanks for your comment. I just picked up 2 of these and ive been throwing a bullshad with it. Works flawlessly. I was curious if anyone was throwing bigger baits with it. 🤙
Please give us a almost 1 year update pros vs cons any reel noice like the curado i or handle slippage not catching when reeling
I love this reel , unbelievably smooth ... I like it better than my Chronarch mgl , fits my hand better .... get one they are great
Is it smoother than your Crhonarch? Cranking wise:)

Thanks! There's no question its worth the $$. I've let a bunch of clients use it already and everyone was in love
I was ready to pay for that MM Gearing, but glad to see it come in at the same price point. Would've preferred straight black anodizing vs the green, but I get it.
Its actually all Matte Black, its going to be right up your alley!
The cast control and spool look like a dark green in both your video 0:19 and TW. Still going to get one though.
Does the curado k still have a high thumb bar like the curado I? That is my favorite part of it! It feels so nice in the hands

Hey guys, does the spool tension knob have the micro-clicks for adjustment or is it just smooth turning? Superb looking reel, I'm already a Shimano guy, gotta figure out how to get one of these into the fishing budget...
This looks sick. A little bit beyond my price point, but then again..that's most shimano's. Just got myself a casitas...the curado days with come
Matt, how does this reel compare to the Chronarch MGL? I was pretty sold on purchasing one in the near future, but after seeing this for $100 less I'm reconsidering just from appearances.
Thanks Matt, have you ever used Duckett White Ice rods ? I just got my first two and really love the Baitcaster 7'1" MH
I think my Shimano casitas broke.......
It makes weird noises and gets stuck on itself on every retrieve. Is this problem fixable?
Great review by the wat
If you had to choose between the curado 70 and curado k which would you go with?

Is it actually better than the 200e?! Dammit Matt, I think you sold me on this reel.
Sweet video i wanna get one sense you speck so great about it,do you guy sell hats?
Hey guys! Great review. What rod would you pair with this for a good overall largemouth bass fishing setup? Thanks! Great vids as always and thanks for sharing the knowledge!!!
A 7'2" Medium Heavy would be perfect... this is what I have it paired with. bit.ly/2cgmMAe
Thats a cool reel. Im right handed so does that mean i need a left handed reel to throw right and crank left ??
Tonk Hodges right hand reel, throw with right switch hands then crank with right as well. At least that’s how most people do it.
Looks amazing! Now should I buy this or a concept z....?
Finn C what did you need up deciding and how’d it go
@@vinniep20_42 Neither! still on the old curado
Finn C really? Dang nice haven’t bought anything new lately?
No I have a few setups that are more than enough for what I do
Finn C what do you do? Haha
Looks killer I want one but love my revo's with the boca bearings cast a mile and smooth giving these 200k a try can't sleep trying to make up my mind between revo or curado on my next buy

In a fishing reel application I would be concerned with catastrophic soft shape Factor loss over fracture and hard failures. I know you guys are very aware of the feeling of a reel that feels good until there's a big fish on the other end of it :-)
Mr. FatBasstard the micro is super strong Matt has pulled a lot of 10 pounders in the boat with the Metanium MGL and Chronarch mgl
Does the line go under the bar or not ?
How does this compare to the Shimano Chronarch Ci4+ 151?
Just picked me up a new gloomis jwr and she'll be waiting for one of these to go on her.
Nice looking reel....thanks for sharing! Mark
TacticalBassin I hear that a big fish is a big fish no matter what species. Thanks for all what you guys do and keep up the great work!
How heavy do you throw on this real? Swimbaits? 1 ounce? 3ounces? Love from sweden!
Daniel Dean negative reviews on the chronarch Mgl? Where are you looking? On tacklewarehouse it has amazing reviews
You is kind, you is smart and you is beautiful, don't let any one tell you other wise, great video man love it.
Hahaha
i really like the camera
Sold! 8.5:1 in Lefty
Hammer Rough i tried them for a month but I went back to Shimano but they are better than the junky Lews!!
smoovefishing I have the concept c and it's better then my chronarch by far. but 200 is different then 500 i guess no matter what reels
Hammer Rough maybe the ci4+ but I the the new MGL Chronarch is by far better than the c! I fished them and that's why I went back to Shimano!
What do you think about the curado k 8.5:1?
But if those areas are better on the new K, I'm definitely going with one.
might get this thanks
What kind of line do you use?
Hey guys i just picked this up and when adjusting the spool tension my lure falls when the tension is all the way. Any idea what’s going on?
MATT, Which do you prefer the shimano k or shimano dc I want to get one but not sure which one
Oh man... I love them both. If it's pure power fishing (frog, flipping, deep crank) I go with the K, otherwise it's the DC.
Awesome news !!!
The Curado K actually has semi-micromodule gears...
would you guys recommend the 7.1 or 8.1 for froggin?
Quick question: dobyns fury swimbait rod or cousins raze swimbait rod
Bob George diawa swim bait rod or irod genesis swimbait rod
Bob George dobyns
I'd go with the Fury as well. -Matt
Cousins they make great rods
Erik Johnson cousins are great, but in this case I would buy a dobyns.
I have 5 gear ratios 6 ratios and 7s and I want to get the k do you think I should get the 8 and if so what would I use it for
Shane Smith 8 hear ratios are good for frogging, punching, and jigs
Can the curado k be use for surf fishing? ??
Sandy beaches
Yes it can
When should it be on the market
Hunter Outdoors tacklewarehouse has them listed coming in July 18
what's the frame made of?????
A quick question, there are some pictures of this paired with a rod i want to know the name of it, one is a g loomis and the other one i have no idea, if you guys know it please, please, please tell me i would really appreciate it
Leon Clark Rola It's the new curado rod. Specifically designed to match the new curado k reel. I just figured it out and wanted to tell you in case you haven't yet.
Michael Tsurkan yeah i saw the release now but thanks anyways!
Cast control knob on bottom is very hard to turn. Does your have this issue? Help would be appreciated.
+Donny De Leon Yeah, they're tough to get a finger nail to hold on but when you do tf urn them they're make a huge difference.
Wanted to buy this but does the spool tension click
thisfishing no it does not and it doesn't need to
Is the larger handle only on the 8:1 ?
Both are larger but the 8:1 is significantly larger
Would I be able to put 50# braid for top water? I would be throwing mostly frogs on the reel.
yes, definitely
TacticalBassin thanks for replying! Love your channel, I have the curado I and love it. Can't wait to pick up the curado k!
Can you do the new concept Z too?
+Alamo City Fishing We don't have one but if we can get one out for a test drive we'd love to review it!
How does it compare to the chronarch MGL? THANKS!
russ foor well I could tell you that the Chronarch is much lighter and features the magnum lite spool for better casting distance
Should I buy a Curado K for $250 CND or a Curado 200 I for $189 CND??
There is no comparison, that Curado K is AMAZING
nice reel review
that curado-k ues salt-water ok?
E series were the last Curado's worth buying.
not true, I series has better breaking than E and just as solid.
No thanks. I would get something like the Alphas over the I series any day.
What lb is the drag?
Do you know where bethel island is in the California delta
I just got my first curado 200 curado hg? dammit , I will have one
price point?
+Fishing With Logan No change. Still 179.99
I would love to get this reel, but really 7.6 ounces?
H2o Fishing that's what gets me! I want it too but that seems a little heavy
dolucks1 I'm not being a pussy. I happen to own a few heavy reels in the 7 ounce range and prefer lighter reels for sensitivity, not because they ware me out.
weight weenie ?
It's a curado what did you expect? An aldebaran?
PCM24 97 The other curado they put out weighs 6 ounces. I know what reels are going to be like. I own a Citica which is a 7 ounce reel and a cronarch which weighs 6.
Gettin me one , thanks
nice reel out of my price range..
