- Jimmy takes you through the process of removing a small radiator with a much larger one, more suitable for the size of the room it's in.
In this instance, he removes a small and oddly placed radiator and installs a nice long horizontal radiator centrally under a wide window.
The issue of having a wrong-sized radiator for the room is quite common for people who have recently moved into an old home and are looking to upgrade the interior.
Have a radiator that is too large for the room and it will feel far too hot, while having a radiator that is too small, as in the video, will mean you can never get the room up to a comfortable temperature.
This latter issue is the most common problem and Jimmy shows you from start to finish how to go through this moderately difficult DIY plumbing task.

Excellent job by a true professional.
I have to say that I find you videos very helpful. Not just this one. I've learnt a whole lot about my sealed system here on your channel. Tonight I've changed a rad in the kitchen. One more to go. What I had to figure out myself was replacing a bigger rad with a smaller one as the existing size is not readily available. The second rad in the same room is smaller, so I went up in size on that one. What I've had to work out is how to install the rads without touching existing pipework. Getting the measurements right when the brackets are different makes for a long night! Tomorrow I'm going to freeze the pipes to change the valves. I can't see a video from you on that one? Hoping I don't flood the house!! Lol. Keep the video coming. Great content nicely delivered.. regards.. KT
when it came to the piping - you fast paced it lol ...
Pp very good again video, george was on the radiator magnet george
Easy without concrete floors!
Sorry, you didn't show how you drain the system and how you refill it and pressurise again, do you have another video showing that please? And which kind of fittings would you suggest for radiator copper pipe joints?
A brilliant piece of work
i have a new build house and believe the radas are too small in the rooms. Is their an official way to carry out an independent inspection of this, so i can go back to my house builder with my results?
Thank you for this video. Without seeing the room itself, would it be easy to downsize a radiator - literally by about 1 or 2 inches, without needing to make any adjustments to the underground pipe work?
I have already floored and didn’t want to re-lay floor in that section if it wasn’t necessary.
Did I miss the part where you've shut the water off for the pipe work?
A great video as always and very insightful and confidence inspiring too. I would like to know if you can replace a small radiator (2800 btu single) with a significantly larger radiator 7000+ btu vertical radiator without killing the existing combi boiler?
Rad type (T11 t21 t22)/distance out from wall??
There is no space under my window sil for a radiator
Wait, I can't find the magnetic cat?!
do you have a video where you add an additional radiator to a room
can you change flow on diverter horizontal radiator
Can you please do one in reverse? Smaller double radiator replaced a big single. Thanks (if you need one to film you can do mine ha ha)
There is no videos on how to replace a large rad with a small one :-(
James Nicol you would do the same steps but just make it smaller
James, I was thinking the same :) Morgan has the right idea though. However, I still think I'll just do it my way. :D
Wkd video james
why not show full instructions, not just parts, you skipped the draining part and the how to do the pipe work
Lol should check the rad first before removing rad and draining down and lifting floor boards 😊
that seemed very complicated.
A TYPICAL LEFT HANDED PLUMBER.................BLEED ON THE LEFT,DOES MY HEAD IN

Great video. Here's a question for you if your still around. How would you replace a 640mm radiator with a smaller 400mm radiator without taking up the floor boards.
PS Jimmy, I know it your house you are working in but don't put your mucky toolbox on the bedsheets...!!!!
***** It’s a Fein Multimaster. Absolute beast!
