In July 2023, I was invited to a private event to show our appreciation to Hot Rod builder, Dave Haskell.
Dave is a well-known Hot Rod builder in the UK and has been building Traditional Style Hot Rods for a few decades. Earlier this year, one of his customers and good friend, Steve Barnard, had the idea of throwing a celebration party to celebrate Dave and all he has done in the custom scene.
In this video, I take you with me and show you the vehicles that attended, all of which were built by Dave. These included a handful of 1931 - 1934 Ford Coupes, Sedans, and a rather nice black pickup, a '40s Ford pickup, a couple of Ford Populars, a wicked Zephyr Zodiac, and more.
Unfortunately, my Ford Pop Hot Rod, 'Pop Daddy', isn't on the road at the moment but due to popular demand, I have dug out some old videos and photos and included them in this video. I also show images from a photoshoot I had which kickstarted my career as a commercial photographer.

It is with great sadness, that I write to say that our dear friend Dave Haskell sadly passed away two months after this event. My thoughts are with Dave's partner, and all of his friends, and family, at this sad time. I, and all my friends who attended the event, are so grateful to have had the opportunity to tell Dave how much we appreciate him and thank him for his friendship and all he has done for us. Dave's Hot Rod-building skills will always be an inspiration to us all, and so will his humour, and conversation. 🖤

It won’t take much to get it back on the road so fingers crossed! I certainly know why you like that 1933 Ford Tudor, the standard on all cars is incredible isn’t it. Thanks for watching, I’m pleased you enjoyed it!
Dave and I have a mutual friend here in the States and I spoke with him on one occasion. I also drew a caricature of him for his last logo. Super guy. I was terribly saddened by his passing.

Fantastic day and a wonderful celebration of the man himself, I am privileged to have had him work on my 54 Consul and to count him as a mate.

Great show Phil , good to see you are into some four wheeled machines as well .Some well built machines love the lime green one , they are all superb machines . My mate and myself where out a run on the bikes a few weeks ago to Aberfoyle , came across a gathering of American custom cars a few hotrods amongst them. Good to see and hear them . Seem very popular .Great clip .👍👍
Thank you. I’ve loved Hot Rods and Custom Cars since I was a kid and have been fascinated by the concept of building your own car. I love admiring the engineering and craftsmanship which goes into making them, even if the car isn’t to my personal taste. That sounds like a fun evening, hopefully I’ll include some more car content on here in the future. Thanks as always for watching! 😁👍

Hahaha! I recorded two intros, the first I said As you can see, these have four wheels, not two! 🤣🤣🤣 I do love a good build and Dave knows what he’s doing! 😁👍

Yay! I believe we met a few years ago not long after I got the back on the road! Can you believe I bought this car 27 years ago, I believe, and then spent 5 years giving her a ground up rebuild before getting back on the road in 2001/2 I’m hoping to create a new series for UA-cam this year as I give her a little freshen up! 🤞
