You won't Believe what was Hidden under this Crazy Mess | Garden Clean Up

  • Can you guess what was hidden under all of this grass and junk? The homeowner also asked me if I had bitten off more than I can chew, my answer was - if I can lift it, I can fix it! And so begins this massive clean up job that took me around 14 hours to complete, with 2 trips to the landfill. I was actually driving around looking for a terrible (or good, depending on your perspective) yard to transform, as I really needed a challenge and some good content for my viewers. As you can see, I found it on this property. This is part 2 of 2.

    FAQ's:
    Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘.
Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 5 years on the job.
Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.
Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs.
    Q: What happened to Nick?
A: Nick was offered a full-time position at his other job as a Political admin.
    Q: What happened to Brent?
A: Brent quit at the start of August 2022.
Q: Why don't you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷‍♂️
Q: Why are you cutting so close to your employee!
A: I'm not cutting too close to my workers, they are standing too close to where I am working. All of my workers have been told numerous times about standing too close to the tools and about the hazards involved.
Q: Why do your workers do all the lifting and carrying?
A: Basically, they are employed to carry things and I pay them well, to do the job required.
Q: You work so well together, how do you do it?
A: That's the magic of editing. My workers are basically given instructions on what to do, I just edit it all out, so the videos look seamless!
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
    Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
    1. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering I always take away the green waste.
    2. I don't have anywhere to store it, as my shed is too small.
    3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on on to the properties.
    4. I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k AUD on a stander, but it would be nice to have one!
    5. I will get one as soon as my transport and storage problems are solved.
Q: What happened to your workers?
A: Because the work is so hard and I expect high standards, most have quit over time. The only exception so far is Nick.
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.
    Q: Who/what is Jim's Mowing?
A: Jim's Mowing is a franchise business. The Jim's Group is the biggest home services franchise in Australia.

The transformation and the work that went into this yard is an absolute 10+. That patio was a surprise and the children can now play in a safer area. I have to admit I do not like those large plastic children's play stations... they sit outside get all faded and even more ugly looking as well as taking up valuable yard space....same feelings for trampolines. Another something to mow around and eventually ignored by the kids. Chicken are cute though. Great job!

This was nothing short of amazing, George! A masterpiece! You completely changed the look and the feel of that place!
I admit I was puzzled and even annoyed at the start when the homeowner wanted to keep all the stuff from the side of the house. Except for the kids bikes, why? It's obviously not bern touched in forever. I soon got over myself 😂 and settled in to enjoy you sorting things out, uncovering the potential and putting things to rights. So much hardscape to uncover! And you found every bit of it and cleared it all.
There were so many moments that made me smile in this episode. When you encountered the stack of bricks at the back of the shed and had to even it up. When you trimmed the fig tree (I LOVE when you tell us what some of the plants are) - now I want to smell a fig tree! When you fixed the trampoline. When you stopped to commune with the chickens for a moment and neatened up their area. When you saved the critter by the stump you cut down (at least that's what I thought you did). When you were careful to save the bed of strawberries. And just all the things you do.
When you were finished, it didn't even look like the same yard! The family had to be so pleased and the kids will have so much fun exploring and being able to actually play in their yard! Great job, George! This is now one of my faves!

The back of this place is quite different than the front. You are doing an admirable job of making this a "turn key" property, where everything is renewed, neat and ready for use. You certainly recovered a large amount of lost paving here. Appreciate your battling back the Blackberry invasion. Nice extra of a trampoline repair for the kids. Glad you have created yourself a job with a lot of creativity and variation in it. That was a pretty mighty Restoration/Recovery. Enjoyed the Before and After comparisons.

    Hi George
You manage to find some real messes.
And you do them for free
Most of the yards you do aren't large enough to require a riding lawn mower.
I've seen many with terraces, hills, etc.
You do what works for you.
On the Asian lawn care channels i watch most of them use only a weed whacker and a machete.
I bet you don't need to go to a gym 😊
That yard as most you do was a workout itself.
Your attention to quality and detail makes for an awesome transformation.
I've even seen you go back at the last minute and oull up a blade if grass you missed😊
    Love the music.
You always pick easy listening tunes
    Wishing you the best
    Stay safe my friend

OMGoodness, you found a whole patio in the back. Great job! George, you never cease to amaze me with your work ethic, and how hard you work and are so thorough. I love watching you work, turning disasters into beautiful places. I've never seen anyone mow paving but it helps so the weed eater doesn't have to work so much. I also like the cement/tiled chair. Thank you for listing what the plants are, that was a giant fig tree, pruning it will help grow more fruit. The raised beds seemed like they had onions, along with the strawberries. It looks beautiful, and now the children can play in their backyard. God bless you and yours from Yuma Arizona, USA
