Your short reviews are how I decide if I can be bothered to watch these new Disney shows. So thank you for saving me 2 hours especially as ive not watched any of the animated stuff. I'd much rather just listen to you guys review them than watch them, way more entertaining than any series Disney has put out recently.
Thanks again for the great content 😊. Always a great day when there's new RCE/RCA to be consumed.

Walt Disney grew up about a mile away from my house in the adjacent Hermosa neighborhood of Chicago. Of course, Chicago was a very different landscape back then! Now what really blew my mind was my childhood house was about a half-mile from Midway Games. I LOVED Mortal Kombat back in the 90s!

They aged pretty badly, not because of the content, but because our screens got better.

Yes Stoic doesn't have to be a wooden character! Kevin Costner showed us this with Waterworld. Also what is the deal with Ashoka and Kenobi not using any of John Williams's music and themes? That's arguably a huge part of what makes Star Wars feel like Star Wars.

Not accepting that the ability to judge good from bad is a rare trait, is a formula to never-ending frustration.

People give Eisner a lot of grief for his mistakes managing Disney, but remember when he took over Disney they were on the verge of total destruction. He used to say "you can't fall off the floor" and with that mindset he took big risks like pouring millions into revitalizing their animation, opening new parks, and developing teen/adult brand elements. Basically, everything gen X and millennials are nostalgic about from Disney came because of Eisner's leadership.
Conversely, Iger took over a thriving company about twenty years ago and now it's losing billions. Rather than take risks and innovate, Iger's style has been to buy up competing studios or established IPs and pump out assembly line entertainment products. His conservative, offensive realist approach to business lacks the vivaciousness and dynamism of Eisner's.
Iger's management can perhaps best be described using a line from Jurassic Park:
"...it didn't require any discipline to attain it. You read what others had done and you took the next step. You didn't earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don't take any responsibility for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could and before you even knew what you had you patented it and packaged it and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox, and now you're selling it, you want to sell it!"
Iger thinks things are successful because they carry the Disney brand. In reality, the Disney brand commanded respect because of the quality it demanded in its products. That reputation has swiftly deteriorated over the last 5-10 years. If it isn't corrected soon Disney will be back to the days of The Black Cauldron, Midnight Madness, and potential bankruptcy.

I watch stuff like Babylon 5 so I don't necessarily mind things looking cheap if the story is engaging, but for a franchise that built its reputation on stunning special effects it's disappointing. I feel like Andor should be the baseline for Disney shows on a technical level, or at least the peak stuff from Mandalorian.

Would recommend Lagoon in Utah. Much better than Disney World. Less crowded, more rollercoasters, and cheaper prices. Not far from there is Rice Eccells Dinosaur Park. Both are great for kids. I bring this up because growing up I'd go to Utah in the summers and would go to Lagoon. One year my parents brought me and my siblings to Disney world and we hated it because the lines were way too long and the rollercoasters sucked. Highly recommend Lagoon.

The problem is that Ahsoka is a character who should have never existed and who was only created in 2008 for TCW (a vastly overrated and unadulterated lore-breaking Saturday Morning-calibre cartoon which the lowest common denominator of the Star Wars fandom inexplicably adores) to pander to small girls. No prior Star Wars release ever even slightly implied that Anakin/Vader ever had a padawan as a Jedi, and the TCW series radically altered his characterization as a result. Now, Ahsoka is even more of a Christ figure than Anakin himself, having essentially been resurrected and surviving every major military conflict of the three Star Wars trilogies, despite not having appeared in any of them (save for her brief voice over to her fellow Mary Sue in Rey in The Rise of Skywalker).
Sabine Wren was always an over the top fanfic-tier character as well, having inexplicably been a Mandalorian warrior, bounty hunter/mercenary, rebel, and quasi-Jedi padawan all by her nineteenth birthday. Now, in their adaptation to live action, these previously animated characters have lost almost all of their liveliness, charisma, and charm - especially Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Hera and Rosario Dawson’s stoic and almost emotionless Ahsoka, who bears absolutely no resemblance to Ashley Eckstein’s more endearing original portrayal of the character.
As for the plot, it’s vacuous and moronic video game-tier nonsense involving MacGuffins, fetch quests, and stiff cutscene esque action sequences. I couldn’t agree more with your criticism of the costume quality and lazy UA-cam fan fiction-tier cinematography, which has now disgustingly become an industry standard.

Look forward to the Story Land video, I have fond memories of that place. Btw, I believe Winnie the Pooh is now in the public domain, though what images are fair game and which ones are not is murky. Even so, screw Disney. My sympathies aren't for an exploitative corporation with a soft monopoly on the ownership and manufacture of culture.

I want to be cautiously optimistic about the show. I think Disney relies too much on it's back catalog to fill in the gaps instead of taking the time to properly explain and flesh out these new series. Of all of the costume issues, Ahsoka's head-tails (her "hair" as it were) are just foam when it's shown over and over that it should act at least a bit more hair-like and have some weight. It's pretty disappointing to see that sort of thing when she's literally the main character of the show.

  • @ashblossomandjoyoussprung.9917

If you think about it, it's kinda self-centered to frame Anakin's turn to the dark side as a personal trauma, to the extent where stopping him is less important than Ahsoka and Kenobi coming to terms with the trauma and dealing with it in their own way.
I mean, Vader KILLED a lot of people. He destroyed literal planets, destroyed the entire Jedi Order, murdered children, decimated entire armies... and the greatest consequence of that as presented in Disney shows is "All of those dead people makes Ahsoka feel sad. But, now that she understands that it wasn't her fault she can move forward, past HER trauma. Shame about the BILLIONS of other sapient beings."
I mean, Obi-Wan and Ahsoka have now been established as being COMPLETELY able to kill Vader and end the suffering of the entire galaxy, but don't, and haven't taken that opportunity to do so. That's, like, incredibly childish and narcissistic from characters who are now portrayed as wise mentor-figures to a new generation who inspire hope throughout the galaxy.

Also, I actually really liked Boba Fett and Mando Seasons 1 and 2. If I somehow FACTUALLY knew it sucked before I even tried it...I don't know, I'd probably still try it, I like having my own opinion, and people do ask us for our opinion.
