    WHO ARE THEY?
Formed in 1969, the regiment emerged from the merger of the Royal Horse Guards ("the Blues") and the Royal Dragoons ("the Royals"), units with roots in the mid-17th century. Serving globally, it had roles in Northern Ireland, the Cold War in West Germany, the Falklands War, UN missions in Bosnia, and conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. It was part of key defense strategies and reconnaissance missions. Notably, Prince William and Prince Harry joined as cornets in 2006.
HOW LONG DO THE ROYAL GUARDS AND ROYAL HORSES WORK?
After the officer checks them at 4:00 p.m., everyone, whether they're on horseback or not, will be done for the day. Two guards on horses watch the entrance to Horse Guards on Whitehall from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. They switch out every hour.
    WHY THEY SLAP THE HORSE?
The purpose of guards slapping their horses when dismounting is to ensure the horse is prepared for the change in weight distribution as the guard descends from the horse.
The first one on the neck is essential to tell the horse, "good job." The second slap is to inform the horse that there is an excessive displacement of weight on one side at dismount.

      Thank You!
It's wonderful that you've posted times of interest. Many videos claim, in their caption, that something occurred & I'll watch a few times & not see the event. Or the event was so grossly overstated that when I did see what was referred to it was had been absolutely a, let's call it, misunderstanding by the video publisher. Not sure how else to say that "untruth" politely

I'm from the USA; this is fascinating. I love the arched doorway behind the Guard, with the large wood doors. I'm fascinated by the horses attire as well as the Guard's. There's just so much to see & photograph besides a person standing next to a horse. The iron work is beautiful too. I wonder about your life when you're not at work. When you're not being a Guard. I wonder about the horses and their lives too. Is there a video about the horses?

When the horse keeps shaking its head at midnight 19, I know that bit is bothering its mouth. I wonder how often their mouth is checked & that bit is checked for proper fit. That guard is the cutest. ❤

I rode horses when I was younger , I am 57, if these tourists would just stand and watch the horse before going up and standing too close to it. People might be able to see this horse doesn't want anyone standing too close. The horse is using it's head to get people to move away. This horse likes it's personal space. I hope the day comes when the sign says NOT A PETTING ZOO DON'T TOUCH THE HORSES.

I agree, to be mauled for an hour and expected to stand still is difficult. The Queen was a horse lover and shares her love for them with the public, the King has continued this tradition, but people show far less respect now. It’s good that the royals only allow short periods of this, people should be kinder and take picture from afar, they do t need to be in it

Assuming you're talking about the horse in the right hand box, until the 35.00 minute mark, before the changing of the horses, it's not actually Tennyson, it couldn't have been after such a short time following that dreadful incident (he suffered lacerations which take at least some weeks to heal; all horses suffered lacerations, except Quaker and Vida, that were hurt the worst). By markings and behaviour it is Tyranny, Arnie's twin brother. I call him "make my sister proud" Tyranny😅

In the 1st set, the guard in the left box is very kind and compassionate. I’ve seen this horse, he is very affectionate and loving. The second set, the horse is Q10. I would recognize him anywhere. He roars like a lion when he neighs. And, he in my top 3 fav’s. He’s an absolute ‘gentle giant’, extremely intelligent and well trained, so patient and tolerant with strangers . Most of all, he is just so precious, intuitive, and seems to sense people who need his affection, esp. those who are disabled, whether adults or children. And, speaking of children, there again he is so careful not to harm them and tries to love on them easily. He is the same with people’s dogs they bring. I would give anything to have this horse. John, another UA-camr ID’s the horses by name. Radford is one of my most favorite as well. He has the qualities as Q10, but he has more of a white blaze down the middle of his face and an unbelievable amount of hairy, soft, light whiskers around his mouth area. That is how I can recognize him. Each horse has his/ her own personality. I am a horse lover, if you can’t tell. lol

Horses are highly sensitive to energies. They are respectful in general of disabled people hence them being used for therapeutic purpouses. No wonder the horses get claustrophobic. Why do people have to stand so close to the horse? If the horse rears up or gets antsy someone could get seriously hurt.
