The bits are rolling bits not regular bits and one of the guards vets explained that the horses like to roll them with their tongues. Also, how do you know that it takes forever for their mouths to be attended to? A two hour break and then stand for 6-8 hours total a day with not only the weight of the saddle but the rider too isn’t exactly ideal. I show horses and don’t spend that long on mine at shows
This beautiful mare Romalia is very sensitive. Have seen her before, got upset at the huge crowd and she ran off down the street. Surely the troopers could see her bit was uncomfortable? Three of them looking at her and just put her back in the box. Poor sweetie.
No sensitive horse should be near the public. this is just another example of untrained horses being asked to do something they are not trained to do. The whole practice needs to be stopped because of inadequate training of the horses and riders put the horses, riders and the public at risk. And its all because they want to make money off tourists. Law enforcement mounts in the US are trained to be calm in dangerous, chaotic situations and there is no reason that the horses used in the UK for ceremonies and display can't also be trained. Its called "bomb proofing" or desensitizing.
@mbmochinski there is no such thing as bomb proof when you have a living, breathing animal. Let's be real here, even the steady Eddie's can have a bad day or a random trigger. It's when you get too comfortable and make assumptions that your butt meets the dirt.
Why is it that people with mobile phones just have to photograph someone in difficulty? There was an accident near my apartment building where a car caught fire…out of every person watching and taking pictures only one called the emergency services…what is wrong with everyone?
I'm guessing that it's partly the bystander effect and partly that people just don't care anymore unless it's someone known to them. It's quite sad really that people would prefer to get some interesting footage than attempt to potentially save lives.
@@Wulfyr Sadly this is absolutely true…the poor car driver was screaming to everyone to move, but nobody listened… Happily the fire brigade and police turned up shortly afterwards and nobody was injured, thankfully…

@annabellelee4535 they need to learn respect, because in the travel industry people are saying they will not go see the disrespectful gardes, they are losing followers and tourists
What ???? I thought they would bring the Horse back for a Break. But no the pure Animal have to stand there again! What is wrong with Humans?! Nobody needs this! Pure Horses.
I don't understand why it takes so long for these troopers to get help, Is an EMERGENCY BUTTON! I also think thst the tassle bothers the trumpeter horse like a flie.
It may have appeared that it took a long time but in reality help arrived quickly. Having ridden horses for many years myself horses have moods like any animal, and these are usually very patient with the tourists. If I were to guess it was having an issue with its bit, maybe even a sore mouth. Either way help arrived within minutes.
As a Human is wel trained, he also gets stress and wants to be free. Horses in natur are free animals and beautifull to see. Well trained or not whe all feel the need of FREEDOM. That Horse answerd the call.. In fact he had to run away buth he didn,t.
I'm suspecting how brazen and pushy crowds are these days. Since they're trained for crowd control (in part) having people constantly push in puts the horses on CONSTANT 'high alert'. Ask any soldier/ veteran: being on high alert constantly wears on you. Horses and other animals experience that too. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the stress of people pushing those boundaries constantly that's causing them uptick in visual discomfort cues from the horses.
I think there were a lot of horse flies around that day. Sometimes the horse fly can really drive a horse ro distraction! This instantly reminds me of my daughter's horse, if the pesky fly lands on her. Her tail is swishing and she'll jog on the spot, threatening to rear. Well handled Guards, I have the upmost respect for you all. It's just a shame that so many " guests " are sometimes quite rude and a bit dim, imo.
🎉I was thinking it was horse fly's too, what with the swishing tale head shake etc, comments saying the tongue is over the bit, but they use tongue guards, also the grey is a mare Romalia, cud'v been having an off day as they often do . 👍
The rider of this horse was sitting lower on their right. Plus the bit was too tight (as usual) The horse was in pain and basically putting his foot down….he’d had enough. Both problems even new riders don’t make. Not good at all. These beautiful animals should get more respect and recognition for the job they do.
@@bettyalexkollias8058 They are not too tight the horse is nervous, and is in training for the job. How do you suppose you would train a horse to stand in a crowd of people? He must learn patience, horses learn from exposure. If you watch enough of these clips you will see that there are many horses who stand, and are patient, they are old hands at the job. I believe that the stable managers know exactly what they are doing, the young man on the horse is probably in training to handle a nervous horse too. You need to do it in order to get good at it.
I have seen quite a few of these videos and 2 things stand out to me. 1. The horses don't like standing in their own mess - no animal does. 2. I always wonder if the sun is in the horses' eyes? Long concentrated time, not able to look away or walk away.
I always see the same discomfort in horses' mouths, I don't know why they don't pay attention to it and solve it. I don't know if it's very short sometimes or what... but it happens too many times.
Isn't there any form of vet that you can ring for such reasons? In germany we have the "Verterinäramt" where you tell them by call or mail that an animal is in constant distress or it is treated badly or anything against our laws. Then they go there and look for this animal whether the tip was correct or not and if needed, they take away the animals from.their owners or they give the owners specific orders that they must obey in order to keep the animals
@@lisap2405 Well... it's the Royal Guard... the horses there are supposed to be super well cared for. But I see that discomfort very often and I don't know why they don't pay attention to it.
Why aren’t these men and horses behind rope barriers that keep tourists away from them, but can be easily moved if needed. It’s just getting ridiculous.
I actually know the answer for this! A real emergency (such a a shooting) can take place in a split second, and they need to respond just as fast. They can't have something like a rope in front of them (which will slow down their reaction time and put both the guard and the horses lives at risk), so instead they simply have to hope that people aren't idiots for once and understand that those horses are just as much a soldier as the guard riding them- that hopefully people understand they both are NOT tourist attractions, they're trained to defend those grounds by any means necessary should the time come. I hope this helps
such well trained guards and magnificent horses, each creature with its own unique personality. i live in canada and have been observing these things for years..tourists need to learn respect and less entitlement. not right to treat the guards and horses with disrespect..doing their jobs. stop interfering..
These guys/ladies have such good horsemanship and horses are so well trained and behaved given ppl get in their space and do the wrong thing. Ppl are disrespectful to both the horse and rider. The pure fact they stand in one spot for long periods it shows how in control both members of the team are. Plus boredom is real and I think that's why they do get mouthy but don't blame them. If a person was asked to do that with all the noises, distraction and ppl being disrespectful... they would get fed up. It's not a normal thing for horses to fill these types of duties. If one of mine was one he would think it's a game. He's a smoocher but he would lick, fart, steal food, inturupt selfies etc but I always worry when in formation if one rares and rider or horse go over about the swords.
In America I have friends that put a mask on their faces to take away the flies from the face. Nice video but the horses endure the public, the heat & the flies. The guards & horses are a tribute & a treat for all of us to enjoy. I have nothing but admiration for them all. 🏴🇺🇸

Horses are unpredictable ! When I took my first & only riding lesson in my youth, I was on an old pony in a ring with 5 or 6 other newbie learners, and my pony suddenly decided to take off - he galloped round & round the ring for about 5 minutes with the trainer yelling at me to hold on. I was having a lovely time, fell right into the mode of rising & falling with his steps altho I'd never been on a horse before - I Ioved it !!! The pony finally tired & I could tell the trainer was quite worried - I told her 'that was fabulous!' !!! I never did go for more lessons, but it was not because of that experience ! Great horsemanship and lots of reassuring pats.
Most people are not familiar with horses these days. They have no idea about their behavior and seem to think they are like machines instead of a thinking animal whose first defense is to run away.
All of the horses are thoroughly fed up with the stupid tourists. We never had this in the days before mobile phone selfies. Also, I used to visit the Horseguards when I live in London and I don't remember people pawing at them all the time. I guess we were much more respectful back then too.

People just don’t have any manners anymore!!!
No respect
It's not normal for a horse to Stand still for 3 hours. Secondly, explain why we should trust you because you've seen a documentary???
@@chris-913 No one needs to trust me, anybody is welcome to do their own research. I agree 💯 % that it’s not normal for horses to just stand for 3 hours or more, I don’t think they like it at all! The biting of tourists is increasing more and more because they are SO frustrated IMHO. A horse named ORMONDE and one named ARNIE (I think) are the worst biters, I think they are getting a beg kick out of it!!! But they are very well taken care of.
A two hour break and then stand for 6-8 hours total a day with not only the weight of the saddle but the rider too isn’t exactly ideal. I show horses and don’t spend that long on mine at shows
Horses stand up sleeping they are not running they are resting when they stand still its the bit is what agitating them
Face à des chevaux capricieux, les King's Guards ont une sacrée maîtrise et beaucoup de calme ! 👌👏🌿
Pulling tight reins & wondering why the horse is upset.
I don’t think every guard can fix the issue. They waited for the trainers to arrive and take the horse through a procedure before taking her away.
We’ve become a world full of @zz holes.
I'm guessing that it's partly the bystander effect and partly that people just don't care anymore unless it's someone known to them. It's quite sad really that people would prefer to get some interesting footage than attempt to potentially save lives.
Curiosity?
@@Wulfyr Sadly this is absolutely true…the poor car driver was screaming to everyone to move, but nobody listened… Happily the fire brigade and police turned up shortly afterwards and nobody was injured, thankfully…
But you are viewing/commenting on such a video? You are the problem not the person filming. No viewers, no comments, no more videos???
Poor Guard he could have been hurt Shouldn't have to press emergency button 3 times for help
Well done Guard for keeping your cool in a situation that could have been seriouse
Poor Guard? Poor Horse!!! Its disgusting to train Horses like figures who have to stand still there for hours! Humans are so blind.
That poor horses, said nope, not today.
They like us ,can have bad days too!
Very well handled !
Poor horse is agitated by the bit and no doubt tired, too. He needs to rest.
They don’t stand there all day. A horse can stand still for an hour and not be tired!
@@Great_Kate Thank you. But it is obviously still stressful for them.
@@Blurb777 for this particular horse, yes. She was distressed and then assisted accordingly. My point is just that a well trained, well tempered guard horse is not stressed when standing for an hour. Horses are strong. The royal horses in particular are treated wonderfully.
@@Great_Kate how do u know that? they want to run and do their thing. Not stand in one spot for an hour or longer doing nothing but getting pics taken from dense tourists.
@@doc-vg9lq horses stand for most of their day and night. They also ‘sleep’ standing up due to a unique bone and muscle structure and because of their natural instincts. Horses are far stronger than us. The Royal horses are trained, handled and exercised to the highest standards.

It’s not the guards fault if the horses panicked! But disrespectful people ! Or there was something in the water 😅
Their such majestic and beautiful animals ❤
Why have an emergency button when nobody comes!!😤😤
Dude, they were having tea…holy cow.
Proof the Guard did ask for help 3x. When he loses his job, he'll need that video to prove "wrongful termination".
FYI once the button has been pushed once, it locks in and can only be released with a key, so pressing it multiple times wont do anything more.
@@Kriskos_Mummumand why He should Lose his job?
@@paddykelly5893maybe he knew it was a bad situation and there was no response. Would you just do nothing until everyone had tea? Why have the button if it’s as you stated? No one comes. Until it’s a dire situation.
Ppl are too entitled, posing with royal guards is NOT a right of tourism. Royal police/guards please put an end to this foolishness.
they can't they are the dog and pony show and are for amusement, they act tough but they are push over boys
I definitely agree them horse is in distress let them be animal and not work them to death 😢
Actually this is part of the tourism industry and for a good reason. Those horses have to be socialized and used to crowds and what better way to do it than through tourism? It brings in much needed money for the gov't and helps make the horses versatile.
@annabellelee4535 they need to learn respect, because in the travel industry people are saying they will not go see the disrespectful gardes, they are losing followers and tourists
@@raymondbrandt7831 The guards are brusque at times but I don't see them as being disrespectful.
What ???? I thought they would bring the Horse back for a Break. But no the pure Animal have to stand there again! What is wrong with Humans?! Nobody needs this! Pure Horses.
We are the dominant species on the planet.
Well to some degree I understand why they took the horse back, otherwise they are reinforcing if they act up they get their way.
Que caballo blanco hermoso en fin todos son bellos y nuestro guardias valientes y fuerte. Wow maravilloso video💂💂💂💂💂🐴🐴🐴🐴🐎🐎🐎🐎🥰🥰
What is disturbing these horses recently.....something is.
Havana syndrome
Wondering if it was some type of biting fly.
Stunning soldiers and horses. Thank you for showing and sharing these videos all across the. world these traditions and modern military soldiers.
I love the follow through, never let an exercise end in a failure ❤
These are well trained horses and disciplined riders. Something is bothering the horses and a good search might uncover what's going on.
As a Human is wel trained, he also gets stress and wants to be free. Horses in natur are free animals and beautifull to see. Well trained or not whe all feel the need of FREEDOM. That Horse answerd the call.. In fact he had to run away buth he didn,t.
Many comments here said that the bit is unvomfprtable for the horse. I think also the humans around it were stressing out that beautiful creature
He wasn’t having any of it today!
The bit is under his tongue !
Magnificent beautiful horse.
Something is wrong with that horse. I hope the guard finally gets help.
He’s just young and a bit rank. Time will settle him down.
The horse’s bit is not properly in place and it HURTS the horse. Happens all the time.
@@fellspoint9364That was a mare.
@@janwarriner6554That's what I was thinking as well, considering you can see the horse constantly trying to adjust it.
I have always thought these bits must be very uncomfortable
The rider of this horse was sitting lower on their right. Plus the bit was too tight (as usual) The horse was in pain and basically putting his foot down….he’d had enough. Both problems even new riders don’t make. Not good at all. These beautiful animals should get more respect and recognition for the job they do.
I totally agree. The bit was definitely too tight and uncomfortable.
It’s not right for a horse to be in pain & forced to be in the box. Where are the animal rights advocates?
I really don’t think the bit was too tight these solders take extremely good care of there horses .
@@marycatherinebello She's not a new horse and has done this many times before. Like you said, perhaps the trooper is new to a nervous horse. Cheers.
The bit is hurting the horse, it is obvious!
What a marvelous horsemanship, amazing💝
I have seen quite a few of these videos and 2 things stand out to me. 1. The horses don't like standing in their own mess - no animal does. 2. I always wonder if the sun is in the horses' eyes? Long concentrated time, not able to look away or walk away.
I've noticed this too, its soo sad
Trust me , horses do not care one but about standing in their own mess, they do it ALL the time
horses dont care to stand in mess, they wouldn’t even notice.
What beautiful horses and magnificent guards.
Majestic Horses!
Obviously, you need to get advice from a veterinarian on how to treat a horse.
I always see the same discomfort in horses' mouths, I don't know why they don't pay attention to it and solve it. I don't know if it's very short sometimes or what... but it happens too many times.
I said that the other day and got shot down, that horse is constantly moving his mouth he looks so uncomfortable.
Yes,my thought exactly,is there a good reason for using these bits
@@sandydog7449 should never be a good reason to hurt the horses, I think more people shoud say what they think about it.
You said it.
Perfectly stated! Thank you!!
It’s a tough job for both horse and guard. I deeply feel for them. They should be left in peace!

Thank you Rouncy - that was the pony's name - I will never forget him - all of 35 years ago !!!
Why are all those horses so anxious?

They only go on duty for an hour and with long rest periods and exercise in the park in between. They get 'holidays' in the country, get taken to the beach. These are trained war horses. It is the tourists who are the problem.

The horse & Guard are in the box for 1 hour before being replaced with another horse & Guard. All Guards are active military guards.
Most people are not familiar with horses these days. They have no idea about their behavior and seem to think they are like machines instead of a thinking animal whose first defense is to run away.
