    Dave & George are 1,000% right on this situation. Anyone who needs a co-signer has financial problems or is trying to buy something they cannot afford (or both). I have NEVER heard a co-signer situation end well. In nearly EVERY case, the person who needed the co-signer stops paying on the loan.

      One exception would be a fresh graduate out of college or high school who's never had a loan, i.e. no real opportunities yet to either mess up a loan or prove themselves worthy of a loan. But in those cases the only co-signer should be their parent(s), not a boyfriend or girlfriend or friend. The parents would (or at least should) know their child well enough to evaluate whether they're responsible enough to pay the loan.

The manager will try to reach out to that department but will be told there is no deviation from policy. These banks aren’t sticking their necks out for anyone right now and they would rather let the naked portion of the loan die with a loan package that was already approved before based on appropriate merits. They don’t care about that $13k. They have to protect their underwriting process.

    $32,000 for a Hyundai Elantra??? YIKES!!!

  • @1967davethewave
    @1967davethewave 9 місяців тому +4

    Hyundai builds the Elantra, not Honda. There's a big difference in the resale between a Honda and a Hyundai. I mean this might sound petty but a 2021 Honda will retain 85% of it's new value while a Hyundai the same year will retain 70%. New car smell makes people turn into ignorant fools, and I'm no exception. But I learned my lesson and if you are smart you will let others make the mistake and learn from that without having to go through that pain yourself. Unfortunately pain is the best teacher there is. I wish this woman good luck and I hope this sticks with her for the rest of her life.

    • @TheFlyingZulu
      @TheFlyingZulu 9 місяців тому +2

      Thanks for doing that lesson for the rest of us... because it's common sense and knowledge that new cars are not worth it and 99.99% of them lose their value. I tell people all the time to find a reputable used car dealer and buy other people's used and discounted cars. Bonus if you find a good deal on a car with a rebuilt title. That's what I did... back in 2015 I paid 12k cash for a 2014 Nissan Altima that only had 9k miles on it. I've only had to replace a wheel bearing assembly so far on it and it's about to hit 90k miles.

      @@TheFlyingZulu That is too hilarious. I have a small used car lot and I bought a 2014 Altima at the auction back in October with a rebuilt title. Now it had a 142k miles when I bought it but I personally drove it 3000 miles over the following 3 weeks to my night job and running errands and such to make sure it was good. It is an absolute awesome car and I now have it on my lot for sale at 25% under KBB. Some one will get a great and dependable car for much less than it would be otherwise and the only real issue is a little mismatch on the paint that you can only see when the light is just right! That credit union manager isn't going to give a rip. They've got her on the hook, so if payments aren't made, they'll repo the car. There will be a deficiency balance, owed to the bank after the car is sold, (the difference between what's owe on the car, plus any fees, and what they actually get for the car) and she has to pay for that. If she doesn't pay, they'll get a judgement and attach her wages. You can bet the boyfriend will be gone by the time it comes to that. The fact that she's looking for another loan is scary, since she's looking to take on even more debt. Calls like this make me so happy I'm debt free, and have never co-signed for anyone.

    This is a very standard example of why the car lending industry is doomed to fail. While the price of cars and thus the loans for the cars have gone up significantly, the value of the car has not kept pace. The reality will be billions of dollars on loans for vehicles worth less then half of what the loan is for, so when the massive wave of repossessions eventually happens, those banks are going to go under. Then our government will almost certainly be there to bail them out.

    This woman is a classic enabler. Sorry. If someone's dating someone who's an ADULT and can't get a car loan on his own, you may want to rethink your dating and relationship and self esteem situations. I know that's a harsh thing to say, but I've seen it way too many times - with women especially, being enablers for their "men" or boyfriends who are perpetually irresponsible. Just the fact that this guy needed a cosigner at all, coupled with the fact that (surprise!!!!!!!!) he's missed payments on the underwater loan, is as big of a red flag as there can be. Finally, what the hell is HE doing about this situation while she tries, MORONICALLY, to take out a personal loan to clean up HIS mess???? My prediction based on dozens upon dozens of similar situations I've PERSONALLY witnessed throughout my years of knowing and working with women just like this one with a "man" at home, especially in this culture? It won't change a thing. She'll STILL take care of him. Bet the farm on it. I'll NEVER understand it. Not smart.
