      I struggle with this too, but when I try to correct it I notice I set up good, but when I go to actually hit the ball, or readdress it, I have inadvertently closed the club face. It happens everytime. If I try to consciously open it up (square it up back to straight on), I become very unnatural. Not sure what I am messing up.

    Perfect timing, I literally realized how closed I was holding my club to my target line only a few weeks back. My game has literally changed dramatically from this simple fix. Golfers, we want the face of the club square to our target line which is parallel to our foot line.
    I held it closed for so long, contact has improved drastically, distance, ball speed, accuracy. The swing now feels effortless. What a world of difference

    I always start the driver with the club head in the centre of my stance besides squaring the club head to the intended line it keeps your shoulders square to the line. Pushing your club up against your teed up ball off your left instep can cause the shoulders to open and consequently a slice. Nice video. Thanks.

    This is correct, if it was the case. Most golfers line up wiry the club face open and the ball not forward in their stance enough. They swing inside out and slice it up in the air to the right, as a righty [They give it way too much loft and the ball has to much loft. The second part of this video. They also don't look at the ball and pick their head up before impact.]

    To add my 2p. 75% of us move the ball to the right (if right handed) some of us with a controlled fade and some with a slice. So how do you hit a fade. Stand open. Aim left. The clubface at impact must be open to the path. The path is left and the clubface is also left. Just not as much as the path. A clubface that points at the middle of the fairway misses in the right rough. For most of us the clubface HAS to point at the left hand 150 yard marker.

    95% of Golfers address the ball with a shut face - because 95% of golfers slice the ball - because 95% of golfers have an open club face and swing across the ball. People aren't stupid - they know they suck, so they're doing what is required to have a gameable shot that hits the fairway. What is not 'seeming' natural for 95% of golfers is to maintain what feels like an extremely closed face on the backswing so it returns to square - so they do what they can do.

    • @MrShortGame
      @MrShortGame  Рік тому +2

      Shutting the face only makes this worse. It would actually be better to open the face if you slice it.

    • @wallstreetoneil
      @wallstreetoneil Рік тому +4

      @@MrShortGame I completely disagree. Every single person I've seen on the range that hoods the club is a big slicer - they do this to preset some face control to offset their delivery. I often help these people, I set the club open, put the weight in the toe of their club (or give them mine) and help them to learn to square the club and hit a draw and understand that their clubface is wide-f'ing-open - and then learn to fix the real problem - but this does not change the fact of why they address the ball this way. They know they are a slicer, they already bought a draw-driver - and they still do this to help. The direction of causation is NOT how you laid it out - it's the opposite.

  • @JohnnyBagvieGolf
    @JohnnyBagvieGolf Рік тому

    Face was technically open? Open to what though? It’s open to the path which is an important distinction that maybe not all will understand.
    Also saying “face closed” is going to result in low hooks it’s important to add the context of closed to path. If you’re a fade/slicer you’re going to want the face closed to the target line, otherwise the ball is going to start right of target and finish further right of target.
    I don’t think I’m being picky here. These are key concepts people need to understand.
    The part about the toe ball going right, and then being surprised the ball went left after you hit it out on the toe, that’s gear effect at play.

    The point about however the club sits is square is not accurate when it comes to adjustable drivers. Depending on if the club is in its neutral setting, set more upright or flat, lofted up or down, this will change how the club wants to sit if you just let it fall in connection with the turf. IF, and ONLY IF, your club is in its most neutral setting, can the club be allowed to just sit on the turf. If the club has been adjusted at all, it will need to be returned to square at address. This video explains it all excellently: ua-cam.com/video/U3JUSHDmJ00/v-deo.html

    • @slmmcgee8686
      @slmmcgee8686 Рік тому +1

      @@michaelwhite2911 Whenever you change the loft, you have to adjust the clubface back to square at address, otherwise all you're doing is changing the face angle to be open or closed. So if you lofted up, the face will have a tendency to want to sit closed and with the handle and shaft probably angled toward the target as well. You have to rotate the face back to square and position the handle/shaft neutral (no shaft lean forward or back) to actually implement the effects of the loft adjustment.

    Pros close the driver face all the time. In fact, I was shocked to see how many players closed their face on many of their clubs. I was at quail hollow a few weeks back up close and personal on the tee boxes. Your broad point is accurate but don’t assume pros are not manipulating the driver face at address.

    • @slmmcgee8686
      @slmmcgee8686 Рік тому +1

      It depends on what they’re trying to accomplish with the shot. An easier way to hit a draw with driver is to align the body up the right side of the fairway, or to a specific target on the right, and then slightly close the face, then take your grip. This can be less controlled though and easily turn into an overdraw or hook.

    FYI, someone is using Mr. Shortgame logos for a scam. They tell you that you won a prize. Then it ends up as a financial scam. They state you won Perry Ellis clubs.
    I asked what MrSG calls his chipping method. They said higher fighter. They also use no punctuation on communication.
    It looks real, but beware.

    See I've been telling myself the face angle at setup and the face angle at impact are completely different things because of the dynamic nature of the swing.

    I just find it funny that people like you, who are not pros, are so eager to talk about what the pros do. Or don't do.
    And then of course it depends on what "pros" you're talking about. But why do you think that something is a good idea to do, or not to do, just because the pros do it, or don't do it?
    Look. In all objectiveness, the pros are the pros because of their scoring. Not how the do any one of the many little things that make a round.
    So say you have 25 things they have to do to play, there's probably at least some percentage of those 25 things that they do "wrong". But it's the degree, the timing, and exactly how they do it wrong that matters. It all plays together. I'm quite sure that they do some things wrong "intentonally" because it helps them do other things "right"..."better".
    It's the end-result that counts. And as such we should only care about what they do in terms of something like a "strokes gained on average" factor.
    Just as baseball players are judge on "runs gained on average" (over replacement player) by having them in the game. They may or may not know this exactly.
    But we sure as hell can look at their score. So it's not just a question of what they do or don't do, it's also a question of how well they score.
    You're not looking at that at all. All that you are doing is grouping them all together and looking for common-factors and discrepancies.
    And the more alike they are, the more their average scoring should be the same, right?
    So exactly what sort of statistical analysis have you done to find correlations between your opinion and their scoring?

    95% is a bit of an exaggeration

    Majority of amateur golfers hit a slice, not a hook, so "95%" doing this seems like a wildly inaccurate number

      And this would be exactly what high handicappers would do to try and stop a slice, along with moving their trailing foot a little behind them.

      Everything he’s demonstrating is to hit a slice he just fails to hit it in the video. The ball will start to the left and move right. Closing the club face and aiming left just push it further right. He talks about how all of that adds side spin

    Mr Short game is talking to us amateurs mostly, He knows the pros are changing the loft with every club. Yes even their drivers. I love all the amateurs that watch his videos and then try and correct him. Unless you are on the PGA Tour. stfu. You are never going to hit it like a pro.
