What a blast from the past! My dad was stationed there from 86 to 89, so I attended TAR Elementary School. Does anyone remember the Lifeguard at the Pool who we called "Mr. 2 minutes?" He was a German civilian and if he caught you acting up, he would point and yell at you..."Two minutes" while pointing at the bench. Come to think of it, I remember getting into trouble at quite a few places over there.....
WOW! :( So sad to see my old neighborhood run down like that. TAR, the YA center. I lived in the bldg next to the chapel . 6th floor, OMG. Taylor street. How things have changed. I left Berlin in '87 @ 13 yo.
@@roymundwilliams1955 Wow! I lived in BB housing on Taylor Street as well in 87! They ended up condemning our building due to water leaking through the ceilings we moved to the Duppel housing area afterwards. . We left a few months after the Wall fell in 89, I was 13yo at the time. I still remember the TAR song! T for Togetherness, A for Achievement, and R for Responsibility.
Wow! I remember many of the spots in this video. I was stationed in West Berlin from July 1981 to July 1984 with the 766 MI Det there at Clay Headquarters. This video brings back some memories. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the great video. Brigade Headquarters, G3 Division, Classified Drafting 1970-71. Just went back for a visit in 2016 and it wasn't long enough.
My family and I was there just last Thursday, 10 Jul., revisiting. My name is Howard and was assigned to A 2/6 Inf., Hqr Platoon, Supply, from 1979 - 81. Worked for AAFES - Vending from 81 - 86. Still an amazing and dynamic city that has changed considerably. Shout outs to James Shel...(Watch out for 'das Zug' boy!), to Irby (The Count), and Oskar Helene-Heim 'Rock', still holding down the Fort.
Wow; what a trip back in time; thank you William Gaylord and utube; I had the privilege and honour to entertain the troops from Dec./66 (Gator Club) to mid 1971 Andrews Barracks (service/NCO club), McNair Barracks, Starlight service club, Club 50, Tempelhof Air base etc. with my band the "Country Squires"; I made many friends back then, including life long friend Bob Gilbert, retired Sgt., now in Boston. My mom Ursula (Ushi), worked at many of these clubs and finally behind the bar at Andrews during that era. A great time of my life that I will cherish forever; I continued my musical career in Canada after 71 and am now retired in BC, Canada. God bless all those who have served, and are now serving; it's been a slice! Best regards, Mike Holly
Thanks for some great memories. Berlin brigade, 2/6 in & 40th Armor 79-81. I miss Berlin terribly, thanks to Amazon however, I was able to order some curry wurst mix. The best street food, straight from Germany. Auf Weidersehen.
@@berlin310 hey thanks for getting back to me. I remember that area as we used to love going the PX. I was part of the british military in Spandau & we would get the train on a Saturday & go swimming & bowling there. Great days

That was awesome. I lived there from 72-76 and went to TAR. Sports complex, swimming pool, folks fest, movie theater. Such wonderful memories.
Who remembers the Miss Volksfest competitions? Played a lot of racquetball at that gym.
