@@smugler1 Why is the separate hardware dongle needed for the Windows version anyway tho? Like, what does it do? And why can't they just update the firmware of whatever the fuck you just paid $100+ for?
No seriously, what snake oil is ACTUALLY INSIDE THE DONGLE? I can't find a single photo or video of the inside, no one has asked this question and there's no FAQ question on their site about it whatsoever.
I mean look at this video closer. In wired mode the cable goes directly between the two PCs, not through some port on the dongle? And how come Apple can achieve half the latency without any dongles? Why is the claimed latency on their website not even remotely accurate and the actual latency LTT measured around the same as Miracast (which also supports touch)?
Does this not all smell a little fishy in the air? Cause I'm smelling a scam right now... And it's a real strong stench too

There is a windows version of Luna Display coming soon, and I think the main point was to hopefully convince people to stop throwing away perfectly useable hardware for shiny new hardware that creates more unnecessary E-waste.
EDIT: Since some people still don't get why Linus hosted this. Because there exists a windows version of Luna display Linus was interested enough to host this product. It's as simple as that.
Now the macadress guy previously did a video on a jerry rigged together touch screen macbook, the product can be used for both windows and Mac OS laptops but windows laptop already come with touch screens pre-installed so Linus would just end up roasting apple over that, and the idea isn't all that interesting.
Instead he wanted an Apple users perspective on why they don't want a touch screen macbook. Due to changing their productivity flow or other reasons as to why they don't like 2 in 1 laptops. And why they'd rather have a Mac and an iPad separately.

Using Screen Sharing over ethernet or thunderbolt ( wifi works but is quite a low frame rate for me ). Although not as fast as true Target Display Mode, it does have the benefit of working on any Mac (iMac, MacBook of any age), shared keyboard and mouse, windowed or full screen and fast file sharing by dragging and dropping between windows on both systems.
You just need a 4k HDMI Dummy ( if using a MacBook you'll need a USB 3 version or a dongle) these usually cost around or less than £10 / $10 / 10€ on Amazon or eBay or you can mirror without one.
I use this method as a second monitor for my Mac Mini M1 alongside an actual 4k monitor and works a treat.

Oh, Linus! Stop getting upset with Apple for deliberately hobbling hardware and disabling sensible features!
Don't you know you're doing it wrong?

For Windows, you could plug in a dummy vga or hdmi to enable the output, then use Parsec or Teamviewer to share it to the second machine.

just use parsec, It's infinitely better than using a proprietary device.

    • @PatrikKron
      @PatrikKron 3 роки тому +8

Last time I checked, you could only use parsec _from_ Windows.
Can you use if for a secondary display? I thought it was just for sharing the current display (at current resolution).

That is for mirroring single display that already exists. For example my PC monitor is showing the samething that is being streamed via parsec to my TV.
This is for streaming an secondary monitor so my PC monitor will be showing monitor 1 and tv will be showing monitor 2. Monitor 2 doesn't physically exist on the PC it is connected virtually and streamed over to the TV.

Many are actually reusing older iMacs by hooking up an HDMI adapter that connects directly to the panel (meaning not only it would work with non-functioning iMacs, it would also work while consuming far less energy!)

Try Space desk. It works with a client server relationship. The Windows main PC is the server and just about any other device is a client display.
