I don't know what to make of this movie just yet. I was and still am on guard at how much they gave an unnamed female character a role, because I am over the worn out push for a Mary Sue "girlboss" taking the spotlight out of some misguided sense of "female empowerment." Yet, by this trailer, they seem to be giving Helm Hammerhand his dues and Hera doesn't appear to be an unstoppable Mary Sue. I just don't know what to make of this yet.
She is still a Canon character. Tolkien never got around to name her. What they do with her is likely irrelevant as they do seem to be sticking to the Canon story and adding connective tissue to the films. And filling in some gaps tolkien left with their own story.
This maybe all we get of the king + the face off with the king of Dunland, the rest is girlboss in thight night linnen with Uber sword skill ala Rey ( 🤢) in new sw trilogy
The biggest issue with the "girlboss" trope is that they don't lose, they don't learn, they don't develop, they don't seem like a real character at all. Even in this trailer we've seen that she starts out weak and clearly has some sort of a character arc, which already sets her apart from the usual "girlboss".
I'll be honest, I'm a massive fan of the og trilogy, I honestly believe those are the greatest films ever made, so I have no idea what to expect of this. But having Peter, and some of the og creative team behind this gives me a bit of hope it'll at least give me a bit of escapism!
Watched the movie at the theater yesterday. Really love it! Not sure if it’s based on Tolkien’s book or notes, but still the movie fits. Set around 180 years before The Hobbit events, we are taken to Rohan Kingdom. You will see familiar places here, including Helm’s Deep and Isengard. Familiar names are also mentioned. The art itself is mesmerizing….. love the landscape! People might mention its influence from Ghibli movies. I would say the style is close with Avatar: The Legend of Aang tv animation series. The music score completes the experience. Stephen Gallagher’s composition fits perfectly. Already looking forward to the CD released by Made By Mutant …..
Or it might be good 🤷🏻 I’m a rings of power hater and I’m looking forward to this. It might be a good story. If it bends lore but makes a good story then I’m on board.
I'm not sure if the current fan base is scewed idea of what middle earth feels and looks like comes from Jackson's efforts but although this does look interesting and I'll be watching it does not currently feel or look like tolkiens middle earth.
Seems interesting. I think it should focus more on Helm H. and the events of the war. I don't mind the daugther having a part in the story but it seems as if she the main character. I would like the movie to be based in the reality of the Lotr lore and having her as the main character seems to be going to much outside of the lore. Hopefully it is entertaining.
This looks worth watching. I was on the fence about it until Nerd of the Rings gave it a good review, and seeing these sneak peaks. It impossible to do a true to book rendition, but this looks like it might be more faithful in flavor at least than the Hobbit movies.
Anime adaptations of live-action franchises are much more preferable to live action adaptations of animated franchises. This is coming from someone who does not watch anime often.

@@АнтонОрлов-я1ъtolkien defo dint envision hera stealing the character arc from frealof theodens ancestor an nephew of helm leading the resistance and earning the right to b king by killing wulf and reclaiming rohan ..theoden is a joke now
@@prodigalfraudaddy-es1gl Frealaf will be an important character in that movie. We will see how well he will be depicted lore-wise and character-wise, but right now I do not see Hera stealing anything. She is fighting Wulf in the trailer, but she is not killing him. So maybe their duel will be interrupted by treachery and Frealaf will help Hera (killing Wulf in the fight), or maybe Hera will be defeated and Frealaf will go to save her or revenge her death - all those options are possible ways by which movie writers solved this problem, and right now we do not know what they've done. Also Frealaf wasn't alone - he came from Dunharrow "with a small company of desperate men". I see no problem if among those desperate men would be one desperate woman. I also do not understand why Theoden is a joke now even if Wulf would be slain by Hera in that movie. Frealaf would still inherit a kingdom in complete disarray and restoring it and defeating all the enemies would be a great achievement of the new king. Slaying usurpers in single combat is cool, but it is not the main job of kings.
The thing is that nothing really feels like LOTR, and imo anime is the closest thing that can somewhat replicate Tolkien's "vision". I like the purposefully old/retro anime look they chose for it. The things we got that didn't feel "LOTR" at all in the last 20+ years: Shadow of Mordor, Shadow of War, LOTRO, Gollum game, LOTR Conquest, Aragorn's Quest, Lego game, Rings of Power, soon weird gollum live action show (rip already sounds awful), War in the North... All these are objectively awful. People still had fun with most of these overall as their own things thanks to social media not being about culture war back then. If this "doesn't feel LOTR", then people deserve to get 50 more seasons of Rings of Power and you should be forced to watch them strapped to a chair tbh
'Helm Hammerhand is no wraith' Interesting line that! In the Shadow of Mordor games, they actually say Helm was one of the Nine, and Isildur being another...😅
Shadow of Mordor was pretty much fanficiton and its own continuity. Helm being a ringwraith doesn't make sense, but the games assume that the player didn't read the books and it was fine as its own thing tbh. Average Jackson viewer only knows "Nazgûl were former kings" and since Helm was the former king of Rohan, welp. Works for most people. The fact that some people didn't get a collective meltdown over Helm being an absolutely worthless ***hole in Shadow of Mordor (he freaked out and killed his family in bloodlust) but suffer from aneurysms when seeing Hera shows that they just need their weekly culture war shots
@@DanielRed2 yeah it doesnt make sense it was a different set of kings. Helm is in a different place at a different time. Isildur? Duh, absolutely not. But besides that, it would be downright awesome if Helm was becoming a Nazgul, and it would sort of tie this back to the larger story for the general audiences. Despite being a book-reader, now im hoping that they make it happen just to heighten the drama and make it memorable!

I could see them doing The Silmarillion into either 5 Anime Movies or into an Anime Series as well as The Children of Hurin into an Anime Movie or Series.
Unfortunately, I could see that too. It is unfortunate because I envision the Silmarillion as being epic high fantasy Elden Ring like live action, which I think would suit it so well. But we will see. I just hope it is live action. Also yea, could see someone trying that with Children of Hurin.
Still better than that Kraven the Hunter bs that SONY/Columbia Pictures is releasing. It would be wise to spend it here, at least I'm helping those animators.

@austinharvey7644 I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with the movie. I'm not an anime fan, but I liked it. I was skeptical that they would make it all about Hera, but they didn't and it's not like they gender swapped Helm. The watcher and the mumak made me scratch my head and say "soo, there's more than one watcher in the water?" But that didn't ruin it for me. The music was also so well done. I'd go as far to say I might like it more than the Hobbit trilogy
🤩 I just hope it has the soundtrack of Peter Jackson's films. I wouldn't feel the same watching it if it didn't have that great, fantastic soundtrack. 🙃
I really excited to return back to middle earth and see Tolkien’s world back on the big screen after 23 years to 12 years since the lord of the rings trilogy and the hobbit trilogy. I hope they do an extended edition.
Having very mixed feelings about the animation. Defenetly better than the few previews I saw before. Some shots here look decently animated, when there's only one character on screen like the shots with the female protagonist Hera. But when there is more than one character the framerate drops and the characters animation overall quality gets real bad imo. I'm not even considering the horrible 3D modeling for the structures or the explosions, these are just plain awful. I know they are going for a mix of rotoscopy and old style anime. Might be a sound creative choice concerning the targeted audience but the animation looks very inconsistent, especially for a full animated movie. Could have gone with the same style but actual good animation like the studio Ghibli. I could be too harsh but I find this looks too lazy for such a masterpiece of a source material...

Yet, by this trailer, they seem to be giving Helm Hammerhand his dues and Hera doesn't appear to be an unstoppable Mary Sue. I just don't know what to make of this yet.
That's the king's daughter my guy. Helm hammer hand's daughter has a name. put some respect on it.
@eddiOrtiz bro, let your balls finally drop, the films can't hurt you they're fictional
However, I am also a lover of 2D animation, and this movie looks like it has allot of potential. I'm going to see it with an open mind and zero expectations so that I won't leave too disappointed. But having Peter, and some of the og creative team behind this gives me a bit of hope it'll at least give me a bit of escapism!
Cautiously optimistic.
I was cautiously optimistic before watching this trailer, now I am almost convinced that it will be good (and maybe even great).
You have my sword, too!
For woke feminazi trash? Really?
@@АнтонОрлов-я1ъ lol, it's almost like you people never learn
It borrows from a section of the appendices in the book but adds huge chunks of its own onto it.
@ thank you!
5:50 bruh, the director definitely knew what he was doing
Just release it already... can't wait animation looks sick!!!

Or it might be good 🤷🏻 I’m a rings of power hater and I’m looking forward to this. It might be a good story. If it bends lore but makes a good story then I’m on board.

The Rings of Power season 2 was great.
I'm not sure if the current fan base is scewed idea of what middle earth feels and looks like comes from Jackson's efforts but although this does look interesting and I'll be watching it does not currently feel or look like tolkiens middle earth.
Dammm....that music just took already excellent preview up the notch. Riders of Rohan...march to the nearest movie theater.
This looks so amazing!!! December 13th, here we come!
The beauty of the animation and the passion behind this get me very excited. Cant wait to see this in theaters!!
That is surprisingly good. Looking forward to it!
Anime adaptations of live-action franchises are much more preferable to live action adaptations of animated franchises. This is coming from someone who does not watch anime often.
animation just has waaay more freedom!
All my life I’ve wished and hoped for a Lord of the Rings anime series or movie! I will definitely be sitting on the front row in IMAX for this one! It looks freaking beautiful! 🤩 🥹 🙌🍿
I hope it will be as good as it looks by this trailer! Helm 💪
the only film series i tend to watch over and over again 😉
A movie i prefer, but i give it a chance to this animation too
I would like to see more rated pg-13 and rated r animated movies in the movie theaters
That’s good other people want more pg-13 and r animated movies in the movie theatres
I’m excited for an action adventure 2D animated film in theater!
As long as they do justice to Helm Hammerhand, I am happy.
Just bouight my ticket for opening night and of course it's for my local Dolby Cinema! I definitely need to see it in one of, if not its best, quality showings in theaters so paying $30 (after convenience fee) a ticket for the Dolby Theater experience at my local AMC is definitely worth the high price. Can't wait!
Now it's Merry and Pippin saying something to the effect of "Meat's back on the menu, boys!"
it's looking promising at the moment and good for it not bad at all
I can’t wait for a movie/show that is about the war in arnor against the witch king of angmar
Should be waaaaay better than Rings of Power. Looking 4ward to this….
mannnnn that rohirrim theme still slaps now more then ever
I love the work of this Man, Master Peter Jackson and his team especially the work he does with the desire to make real cinema, it is really good and it is coming, it is a demonstration of how real cinema is made good for those who have forgotten. So watch it and less than 10 days are left until we can breathe the real Middle Earth air again. 😱😱😱😱😱
I don't think Tolkien envisioned women in Middle Earth wearing skin tight outfits with thigh high boots.
Hollywood hates Tolkien
Tolkien envisioned some women in Middle Earth dressed as men and clad in armor (Eowyn) and other being naked (Nienor).
Tolkien also did not envision women being the main sword fighter hero. But we are living in ridicoulus times.
Doesn't feel LOTR to me
It’s anime-
Hollywood hates everything Tolkien stood for. They will erode it at every opportunity.
Feels more Lord of the Rings than that abomination we got a few years ago.
You're just a pessimist. So shut up.
The thing is that nothing really feels like LOTR, and imo anime is the closest thing that can somewhat replicate Tolkien's "vision". I like the purposefully old/retro anime look they chose for it. The things we got that didn't feel "LOTR" at all in the last 20+ years:
Shadow of Mordor, Shadow of War, LOTRO, Gollum game, LOTR Conquest, Aragorn's Quest, Lego game, Rings of Power, soon weird gollum live action show (rip already sounds awful), War in the North...
All these are objectively awful. People still had fun with most of these overall as their own things thanks to social media not being about culture war back then. If this "doesn't feel LOTR", then people deserve to get 50 more seasons of Rings of Power and you should be forced to watch them strapped to a chair tbh
"The horn Helm Hammerhand will sound in the deep one last time."
'Helm Hammerhand is no wraith' Interesting line that! In the Shadow of Mordor games, they actually say Helm was one of the Nine, and Isildur being another...😅
Doesnt make sense, when the 9 already existed for thousands of years.
Shadow of Mordor isn't canon...
@wjhd6823 Exactly! That's why it's funny how they've used that line here in the animation. Maybe a little nod from the writers to that abomination 😄
Goosebumps with the Rohan themed music. Lezzzzzzz goooooooo
Can't wait! Gonna be my first time seeing an LOTR film in theaters :D
Oh, the MUSIC! Rohan wouldn't be Rohan without at least a taste of Howard Shore's themes, reworked but recognizable. I'm sold. See everyone on the 13th!
Why is the animation quality so poor?

Apart from The One Ring RPG, it's been a lousy decade for Tolkien fans.
7.75 / 10 🍿 ♥
For a animation it's good , but it was a little drawn out which made the space in between action longer than wanted , it was a little too much "good guy always wins" style which takes away the thrill of something unexpected happening 🍿 it wasn't bad , wasn't great , okay for 1 watch ♥
wow. That was epic. I am sold.
The best themetune in cinema history returns. Gives me shivers every time! 🙏🏻
The music in this film is excellent! 😊
This looks so cool and epic. Can't wait to watch it next week!
Looks great. I was sceptical, but I’m looking forward to it
I definitely like what I see. It'll be a good anime. A lot of poetic license is visible but that's not necessarily bad if the result is convincing. I think I'll enjoy "The War of the Rohirrim".
It feels wonderful to look forward to something LOTR related again. ❤
I'd temper your expectations.
THE HORN OF HELM HAMMERHAND, SHALL SOUND IN THE DEEP, ONE LAST TIME!!!!!!
I'm assuming the guy at the beginning with the sharp teeth and elf ears is a half-orc or a goblin man.
Very hyped for the film but I'd have preferred another trailer rather than just a chunk of the film personally
Stop calling this anime. Its got American "modern audience" stink all over it.
Traditional anime is cringe lol
just because you don't want to call it anime doesn't mean it's not one. It has all the structure of modern anime. Stop living in the 90's it's not DBZ and sailor moon time anymore 😂😂
Uuuhh what a puff, it is anime.

helms daughter riding through the land with nothing but her wedding dress during the long winter? I mean I can believe dragons and orcs but that is just not believable in the slightest.
It is very good, just saw it 👏👏👏Lotr fan here❤️
I could see them doing The Silmarillion into either 5 Anime Movies or into an Anime Series as well as The Children of Hurin into an Anime Movie or Series.
Unfortunately, I could see that too. It is unfortunate because I envision the Silmarillion as being epic high fantasy Elden Ring like live action, which I think would suit it so well. But we will see. I just hope it is live action. Also yea, could see someone trying that with Children of Hurin.
So excited!!!
I don't know what this is, but it's not Tolkien.

Still better than that Kraven the Hunter bs that SONY/Columbia Pictures is releasing. It would be wise to spend it here, at least I'm helping those animators.
For some reason i thought this came out today, the 3rd of December, and was searching every theater for times, it appears i was wrong.
Looking forward to watching this, if you couldn't tell
Can we not cast judgement before we see it? Do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment
So many neckbeards don't want to watch a movie with a female lead.
@austinharvey7644 I finally watched war of the Rohirrim, it was a really good movie. As I expected
@ Glad to hear that!! I saw it too and it was amazing!! I really needed a movie like that in my life right now
@austinharvey7644 I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with the movie. I'd go as far to say I might like it more than the Hobbit trilogy
this opening is much better than all seasons of rings of power of amazon prime video
🤩 I just hope it has the soundtrack of Peter Jackson's films. I wouldn't feel the same watching it if it didn't have that great, fantastic soundtrack. 🙃
Wow what beautiful photos and videos you have on your channel, I already subscribed 😍😍
The soundtrack is composed by Stephen Gallagher, but it likely uses the Howard Shore songs as inspiration.
@ Very well we will see how it sounds in the movie. 🙂🙂
I really excited to return back to middle earth and see Tolkien’s world back on the big screen after 23 years to 12 years since the lord of the rings trilogy and the hobbit trilogy. I hope they do an extended edition.
I was thinking if I should see this in cinema. This 8 minutes convince me not to.
This looks great 👍 Can't wait to play the tabletop version 😁
