    I really like the way you show the stick controls. That's very helpful for those of us that are new to the field.

      Thanks. I'm planning to do a beginner series showing flight fundamentals with the sticks showing my movements. Stay tuned!

    The most under rated eflite planes ever.. both the umx and 600mm version
    Really want a 1.1m or 1.4 version with retractable nose gear

    A common saying in aviation is: pitch to airspeed, throttle to altitude. Related, I don't think a lot of people realize the elevator trim trims to an airspeed.

    • @all_rc
      @all_rc  11 місяців тому +1

      Agreed. When im training a newbie, i try to stress that. I also try to drill in not using down elevator when landing (or general flight)... down elevator will increase speed which is not what you want when landing.

    Good flight. The Ultrix 600 is like the perfect park flyer. Love the flight time on it too. If I glide and go easy on the throttle it's like almost 10min per battery.

    Nice explanation on why learning with SAFE can be a problem. Most of my first 50 flights on my umx ultrix were in safe and I'm unlearning some bad habits

    • @all_rc

      Safe is a tool in your arsenal. But if possible, learn with an instructor off of safe. You might take longer to solo but in the end you'll be a better pilot. Not only will you learn how to fly but a good instructor will teach you good safety practices and good rc airfield etiquette.

    • @all_rc
      @all_rc  Рік тому

      Yep gemfan 4024. Hopefully you can find a local source but here is a U.S. site that carries it. www.racedayquads.com/collections/4-props/products/gemfan-hurricane-4024-durable-bi-blade-4-prop-8-pack-choose-your-color
      They fit but be aware that you'll need to do a bit of modification. They do not stick out as much as the stock props so they will hit the foam nacelles. Some have added a spacer (3d printed). I just shaved the foam a bit and it was good for me. Others have used a washer. You can check out the ultrix thread on RCGroups for more info on that mod. Also others have reported that the stock bolts that hold the prop on are too long so you might have to shave the bolts. Mine seemed fine and didn't hit anything.

      Thanks I got the 4024 Gemfan that you said I trimmed them down as the diameter and pitch was more than the Eflite props and I did not want to stress the ESC. Also the motors would not rev as high with the Gemfan 4024 compared to Eflite prop I trimmed them down to 85mm and the thrust and motor revs match the Eflite props. Thanks for help.🚀

    Safe mode is great if used properly. Especially on the UMX. Sometimes, I might fly too high and/or too far way and lose orientation. If that happens, just pop it into safe, peg the throttle, and steer it back. I love the umx ultrix so far. Just got it a few days ago, and have been flying the snot out of it. The Ultrix 600 is definitely on the short list for my next plane for sure.

    • @all_rc
      @all_rc  Рік тому

      Agreed. My statements about safe have to do with learning on safe and then relearning to fly without safe. While I do agree that safe can be a good tool in your toolbox I feel that the best way to learn is without it. Learning with an experienced pilot on a "buddy box", he can teach you how to fly and also tell you how to fly safely. I've seen too many people learn on safe by themselves and then realize that flying without safe is totally different. I've seen people that learned to fly on their own and then, thinking they can fly, come out to the field and are oblivious to the rules and safe practices. I don't agree with the marketing that you can teach yourself to fly on Safe mode..

    • @ctvxl
      @ctvxl Рік тому +1

      @@all_rc Oh yeah, agree 100% for sure. I learned to fly almost 30 years ago, long before any of the electronic aids. I can see where 'learning' to fly on SAFE could actually make the whole experience harder, not easier.
      But if you already know how to fly, safe mode is great, especially on the tiny planes. Its nice to know that if you lose orientation, you can just flip a switch and point it back to home.

  • @thebunkreport

    I think they use flexible pushrods because ones with no play at all will most definitely damage the servo in a nose crash. BTW, what state are you flying in? I'm from AZ and it's a similar landscape (thought I saw some palm trees too). I agree with you on SAFE mode also. It's bad to learn on SAFE. It's a totally different experience out of SAFE mode.

    • @all_rc
      @all_rc  8 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, those servos are delicate. Others have either added a carbon rod or installed some guides without any ill effects though. I honestly haven't. Still fly it all the time. Only thing i added was some drone props. They don't break, just bend. I'm in the los angeles area flying out of Van Nuys Apollo 11 field.

    Got a question. Do you have your CG located behind the recommended CG point. I had on of these and I placed the battery all the way forward, to all the way back and everywhere between. Never found a spot where I could do a high alpha for any amount of time without massive wing rock. I noticed that this one is very CG sensitive. Where was your CG during this video. Let me know please. THANKS.

    • @all_rc
      @all_rc  2 роки тому +2

      I actually never measured cg. I can check it next time I fly. But I use a 800mah - 950 mah 3 cell with the battery forward so the back edge of the battery is flush with the battery door so if you look down at the battery opening, you can't see a battery if that makes sense. Let me know if you need clarification and I can double check my actual cg. Personally, I never found the ultrix to be cg sensitive. I've even discovered after a flight that the battery came loose and was moving around in the compartment and I really didn't notice.

    • @thebunkreport
      @thebunkreport 8 місяців тому +1

      I put it all the way forward. When you fly out of safe mode, the nose tends to pitch down a bit with this configuration. I trimmed the elevator about 20-24 points and at half throttle it flies level and doesn't lose altitude.

    • @all_rc
      @all_rc  8 місяців тому +1

      I've gradually moved the battery back. Now, my battery is still forward of the front of the hatch but i have it so i can see half the battery. With this setup, i can still fly fast but when i slow down, high alpha is easier and more stable and hovers are a piece of cake.

    I just got this and setting it up on a opentx as well, what is your channel mapping? I’m guessing it Channel 1,2 for aileron/elevator, 3 and 4 for motor, and 5 for safe select?

    • @all_rc
      @all_rc  2 роки тому +1

      No. Treat it like a regular 4 channel plane (plus safe). The mixing is done on the receiver so you don't need to do any mixes. Ch1 Aileron, ch2 elevator, ch 3 throttle and ch4 rudder. Ch 5 will be safe select. When binding, choose dsm auto. If it doesn't bind, change the servo rate from 22ms to 11ms and it should bind.

    • @qqff3192
      @qqff3192 2 роки тому

      @@all_rc for the differential thrust do I add a rudder source for the motor channel 3 then?

    • @all_rc
      @all_rc  2 роки тому

      No mixes at all! The receiver will do it all. The ch 4 rudder will control both motors. Forget that the plane is elevons and differential thrust when doing the setup. Just program it as a regular plane.

    • @all_rc
      @all_rc  2 роки тому

      Also, the channel order I mentioned is assuming your opentx radio is configured to AETR channel order. If it isn't then do your regular channel order. For example, if you're radio is configured TAER (then your channel order is ch1 Throttle, ch2 aileron, ch3 elevator and then ch4 Rudder. It is the transmitter configuration that counts NOT the receiver. All spektrum receivers are TAER but if your transmitter is AETR it will auto convert.
      In other words: set up a regular plane. If your regular programming on your OpenTX radio is ch1 aileron, ch2 elevator, ch3 throttle and ch4 Rudder, do that then add ch5 for safe and you are set. I set up the manual suggested rates and pretty much always fly at 100% rates.
