I hope Japan never modernizes but forever protects these ancient spaces and continues to create more. They are perfect artistically and spiritually. They are the perfect example of an ideal dwelling to me. Changing shadows, light and sound. Nature and space to mingle with it. Thank you for the lovely dream of home🙏😊❤️
Also important thing in Japanese culture is … “present moment “ , like we appreciate cherry blossom so much because it only flourish for short time, Japanese people see poetry in our humble existence and limited time as human being. Maybe the word “ hakanasa” translate to bittersweet feeling…but in the same time it’s content feeling. Just like Hokusai painting Japanese people accept we are just a part of nature not other way around. It is core of Wabi Sabi I think… 💜
I’ve been reading this book and believe it or not, when I started reading it, the first thing that came to my mind were the videos on your channel that I had watched earlier (in spite of having visited Japan myself, although for too short a time). I had not even watched this particular video then. I think I just searched to learn more about it and this video showed up! What an amazing tribute to such a wonderful book and ALL your videos are visual representations of aesthetics in that book, and a treat to the viewers! This truly was a 11.5 minutes of pure meditation as all your videos are! Although there are 2 sides to Japan as light and shadow, we can’t appreciate one without the other! Thank you SO MUCH for this tribute and also sharing this! ❤
I love Japan very much and visited 3 times during Cherry Blossom seasons, Again I’m coming to Kyoto during Autumn ( momiji.) this year. My room is almost like Japanese room with Painting ( Scroll / Alcove ) and many handicrafts brought from Ozu Paper Museum and Kyoto, Domo arigatougozaimasita 🙏🙏
As always, I enjoyed this video too very much. The images are so beautiful and so eloquent, they need no explanatory texts. Don't tell, just show! Thank you!
I absolutely love how everything is captured in this video.💕 I can’t stress enough, how much I love watching your channel. Thank you for sharing another relaxing and beautiful video.🤗

incredibly beautiful, as usual:) i really enjoyed this video, thank you!!! though for some reasons the video's quality was really poor.. i don't mean resolution but those shimmering squares in dark areas. like in old computer games from 90s. and that's definitively not because of my connection speed.
I am mightily impressed by the book for I dislike light pollution early on, but the book is not without its severe shortcomings. After all, Japan, particularly Tokyo is one of the most light-polluted city. Many of Japan’s proud achievements are related to lights and things complicated and ornate. Tanizaki wanted to live back, not forward. That is not his shortcoming for he can tell what the world would be 50 years later. It is the very lack of criticism of Tanizaki by modern Japanese that surprises me. Why can’t Japanese tell Tanizaki failed to vision Japan as a modern country, a civilization that can move on with the new world? Embracing Tanizaki’s utopia of everything old is backward no matter how romantic it may be.
While I wander through and find myself seduced by these simple beautiful images, I sense something wrong or amiss. Tanizaki is a traditionalist who desperately wanted to preserve an old Japan that was fast fading away in early 20th Century. I don’t fault him for such an effort, but he is wrong to assert that Japan after being modernized would be westernized and no longer Japan. Everything Japan absorbed from the West is still Japanese today. Like the anime, Godzilla and etc. The Japanese culture and sense of aesthetics is live, flourishing and spreading far and wide across the globe. Tanizaki erred in failing to believe that Japan would get westernized only to create a more vibrant culture which is distinctly Japanese. Tanizaki is an old fart living in the past and failed to see what the future might bring about.

A refined point of view. I don't know whether it is intrinsically Japanese, but Japanese culture, to me, seems subdued and reflective. Thank you.
