- Hello Family!
Here it is, my first session of GI Joe Mission Critical featuring Joes, enemies, and even the special Retro Style Snakes Eyes! This team was voted on by all of you, so we'll see if their combined efforts and skill are enough to defeat the forces of Cobra. For those of you that don't know, this is the second game made by Renegade Games that uses their Guardian System, so it plays VERY similar to Heroes of the Grid. It does, though, have it's own flair and stands out on its own very well. So whether you're a fan of the GI Joe IP, Guardian System, renegade, enjoy watching me play, or whatever, strap on in for this 3-part session of GI Joe Mission Critical!

Thanks for doing this. Your videos are fun and full of info/strategy. I shared this on the renegade games discord. Hope more people sees this
Thank you so much for sharing it! I very much appreciate all the help with getting this out for others to see.
I do plan on doing a proper introduction of myself on the renegade discord soon, and be more active in the community over there. Figure with all the renegade games I play/cover, be a good way to reach out to others.
I really really like Mission Critical. I am a big fan of this game. I can't wait to try out Mutt and Junkyard.
I remember you showing me his cards and mechanic. Looks very unique and fun to play with! I’m also excited to check out more Joes. See what they do and how they can best be played.
Also, not for nothing dude, but THANK YOU for those tokens! Super helpful with keeping track of all the effects enemies put out and my “once per battle” abilities. Now I want them for all the minions to go on the power board to keep track of what I beat 😬
It's worth noting that in Mission Critical, unlike HotG, you always add all Heroes' personal energy to the shared pool during battle preparation. They decided to clean things up that way, because the rule was complicated and a barrier for new players.
That's one of the most important differences between the two games. The others are Zord/Vehicle system, which is more obvious, universal deployment (also obvious), and the fact that they rebalanced the action economy at various player counts. It's not the same as HotG, so people who are familiar with one game should still read the rules for the other one. They're MOSTLY the same!
Indeed, that’s why I made a video about the Universal Deployment System and the vehicles. Both of those are BIG changes from HotG that players should be aware of.
The shared Energy rule works either way, though you’re right that it’s easier to do in MC then HotG, I’m just used to the power ranger version. Whether you put all energy in the shared pool at the beginning of battle then reabsorb it at the end or have 2 in and let each hero pick when they put it in, results are still the same. Whichever you’re most comfortable using, go for it! 👍🏻
The MC // HotG energy pool might be relevant in some cards, like blue psycho
I'm always forgetting about guard when it involves the top or bottom adjacentcy
Same. I’m glad I’m using the tokens now, really does help a LOT keeping track of stuff like that.
What i do to remember guard is to shift the cards guarded a little bit towards the inner center of the board. Doing so, reduced the amount of errors during the game.
What does a panicked location do? Also, do you say you were playing Solo Mode, if so, how can you do that with 3 characters? THX!
A panicked location is basically a countdown to loosing. If all 4 locations panic, then I loose all my "lives" and have until the end of the round to remove at least 1 Panic. If all 4 areas panic AGAIN, it's a loss.
There's a specific set of rules for Solo Mode. I did a How To Play for it using Power Rangers Heroes of the Grid (pretty much sets up and runs exactly same other then Zords/Vehicles) or you can find it under the Scenarios on the Renegade website. In short, for Solo Mode you play as 3 Heroes. You have one hand of cards pulled from all their decks, and they always move together and battle as a group.
Is your friend sell them tokens?
I could if there is an interest.
There you go. If more show interest, the more likely he’ll start selling them. 👍🏻
