Why Bharat Ratna award not given to Mohd. Rafi sahab he was also Great singer. I have no objection about Lata mangeshkar given Bharat Ratna award
He could have been given for sure, but he died at a much younger age of *55,* while Lata received it in her later years of *72* ... God bless their soul

The Bharat ratna was just not due to singing, Lata ji was instrumental in changing the Hindi movie music forever… she was the reason singers got their credit (name) on the record labels, she refused to perform in Filmfare as singers were not awarded back then, that lead to incorporation of best singer category for the Filmfare or she spearheaded the fight for the rights of the artists including the music director and lyricist (the royalty issue), she opened the opportunity to sing in world class venues starting from the royal Albert hall etc. She retracted her future nominations from Filmfare awards to pave the path for new singers… to count a few…
P.S. Rafi sahab was needed a great singer there is no doubt about that.

Lata was an institution in herself. She was an actor, a music director, a philanthropist, an activist, a gem herself. Being a lady in a male dominated industry in those days and fighting all the rumors, accusations, while performing and delivering with purity and integrity is absolutely no joke. She deserves this and much more. Other singers are just that- just singers. Some spineless too.
