Shogun is such an insane combination of their talent, influence and maturity. I prefer the style of Ascendancy, but there are moments in The Crusade and in Shogun that really show how gorgeous they can write.
Considering they were teenagers when they wrote this album I think it's bloody impressive, I was in college when this album came out and saw them multiple times that year, was amazing.
Have you ever listened to Protest the Hero's album Kezia? They wrote that in high school as well I believe. Both bands I listened to in high school. But PTH, while maybe not in most people's wheelhouse, is an absolute impossibility of talent.
@@metal-adjacent yeah it’s a great album! I did see them live about 10 years ago or so but can’t say I was too impressed, I think they must’ve been having an off day sadly. Great band otherwise though.

i think only Matt Heafy was a teen. He was 19 when the album came out I believe, and I think all the other guys were all at least several years older than him?

This album is one of the best metalcore albums ever. My 2nd favorite trivium album behind shogun (and not many albums are better than shogun).

The End Of Everything into Rain is one of the hardest set openers of all time
If you want early Trivium with more melody, you want Shogun, Ember To Inferno (song not album) has one of the best choruses
I'm so glad that you're checking out some Trivium! This band really pushed me deeper into the metal rabbit hole when I found them in high school compared to when I was mainly listening to Metallica and A7X (nothing wrong with that tbf). I would suggest checking out their albums "Shogun" and "The Sin And The Sentence" if you want to dive into some of their different styles throughout the years🤘🔥 P.S. Your guitar moment with Pull Harder was dope af 🔥🔥

Trivium and Avenged toured a lot during that time frame cause they both released ascendency and city of evil within a year or less and they toured a lot plus the factor they also got to tour with metallica (bullet from my valentine also was another band in that tour) and both bands got that stamp of approval from metallica as metallica viewed as the new generation of guitar centric bands that were inovative and up coming at the time. That generation of bands was great (Avenged, Trivium, BFMV, Killswitch, Atreyu, just to name a few)
and they released The Crusade right after which is like, basically a metallica album with matt on vocals and a good drummer lol
This Is one of the best metalcore albums of the 2000's, AND the fact they were just adolescentss when this was released Its mindblowing
This album was definitely a ripper back in the day! Agree that Like Light to Flies is the top track!
You should try more Parkway Drive...especially Early like Horizons

This album is literally one of Trivium's best albums. They were pretty young recording this album. Also I personally have listened to this one over and over. I suggest that you definitely check out more of their old stuff.

I would kill to see you react to the song Shogun. By far my favorite Trivium song and it is completely epic.
Oh also a reaction to pillars of serpents would be insane. That song has an incredible breakdown and it doesn't get very many reactions that I think it deserves

When recording part of this album, Matt Heafy (vocals/one of the guitarists) was only SEVENTEEN. They were killing it from a young age, Trivium is all-time for me 🤟
Absolute MetallicA from the music, along with bands like Death, and In Flames. This album generated gigantic hype at the time, m'chara.
"The next Metallica" was a tag I saw on every magazine at the time. And at 19-20, they were up for that challange.
They've had some peaks and valleys since. Albums like "The Crusade" was a melodic 80s metal inspired album, that was sometimes attacked for being too much like Metallica/Megadeth.
But "Shogun" is a prog, tech metal stunner. A massive comeback, huge props and acclaim.
I love how they, despite some ups and downs at them, they kept going. Outliving and outplaying various tempos and trends to deliver, in my opinion, their best album yet, with "In the Court of the Dragon".

Hey, you should check out "the blackening" by machine head. It is known as the best metal album of the 2000-2010 decade.
You should do the old Darkest Hour Album Deliver Us. Similar vibe but more pronounced Vocals, I think you may have mentioned once you didn't like those kind of vocals but that was a good time ago. More raspy, melo death, but with great Metalcore riffs just gives tje incredible feels. One of my all time favorite Metalcore albums and I always get teary eyed and emotional from it. Can only recommend
All hands down best trivium album ever this album is one of the main reasons I'm a metalhead and Travis Smith was by far there best drummer in my opinion the reason why I wanted to play the drums departure is def my top fav song on this album damn hearing this album def bring back so many memories getting stoned in my bro car and drinking a beer at 19 years old now 37 soon lol I def miss this era wish we could go back to this style miss this old school metalcore sound
Definitely an album that helped shaped my musical taste. For when this came out there wasn't much else like it.

i remember buying this album when i was in highschool in 2008-2009 because it was on the metal section of a store and the cover looked cool, one of the best metal albums i've heard til this day, this is a solid 10/10 just like 90% of trivium discography

Trivium is a band that is so consistently good that pretty much every other album besides maybe the crusade deserves a reaction, especially shogun and the last 3 albums they've put out.
Love this album totally got me in to metal game changer for me also got my first tattoo of the head on the album cover and it's sick !

You need to check shogun album , for me it's the best Trivium album.
Sorry this is late and you may or may not have read this before, but their name (Trivium) is Latin for a 3-way intersection, which describes their sound/style of music. A mix of Thrash, Metalcore, and Melodic Death Metal.
One of my favourite "listen from front to back" albums. Another is Funeral for a Friend: Hours. Both are killer albums in their own genres of metal.
Like everyone's saying dude, Shogun is an absolute juggernaut of an album. It's a tie with In the Court of the Dragon for me, but Shogun gives me a certain nostalgic feeling I can't replicate any other way.
I had the honor of seeing them play the title track itself live last year. One of the coolest and most surreal moments of my life.
This album came out when I was a teenager and just starting to play guitar. Big time nostalgia listening to this one again for the first time in at least 10 years.
The first "band band" (as in not local bands) I went to see when I was like 14, they played the Ambassador, dinky venue. Best night ever. This album blew my fucking mind! Still does!

@@DrewFortune97 I realise this and I'm sure people are way way way too angry about it. I know how the internet is, but at the end of the day, they just want you to get the feeling they did when they first heard the song. Reaction content is inherently kind of a social thing, hard to explain but I watch them because I love showing people new songs or films and I get the same thing watching people get enjoyment out of songs. I might be totally wrong but that's how I usually feel about it when people talk over the best parts or miss them on accident.

Trivium has evolved quite a bit in the time between Ascendancy and What the Dead Men Say. This album is the one that shot them into the mainstream. Lots of music publications went so far as to say these guys were the next Metallica because of this album. Interviews with these guys looking back at this time frame is cool. It was intriguing to see how they felt about this album, and then the absolute about-face that fans and critics took with the very next ablum.
Trivium is amazing honestly
One thing to remember is Matt Heafy was like 17/18 years old when he wrote this AND sung it live. I dont like Trivium that much, but this album is so nostalgic for me.

This is their peak album that put them on the map and many predicted would catapult them to being the top modern metal band drawing Metallica comparisons which I never really heard since their style was completely different with screamo and emo vocals but they never matched the quality of this album plateauing and declining since.

I could never get into Trivium for some reason, but I think if you like them, you'd also really like Sylosis. A better version imo.
