One of the best Boondocks episodes ever. I remember the fanaticism around Obama back then. It was blind worship, and no real questions about what he believed in.
When I first saw this when it aired, I thought Huey was being a real buzzkill. But now I realize that he just believed that it was not as big a deal as everyone was making it out to believe.
The Fundraiser is probably the weakest one but even that one is up there with the best of the other two seasons, and way better than anything in season 4.
When I immigrated here many years ago, I didn’t completely understood the whole thing about why Obama being president is such a huge deal. Over the years, as I grew, so did my understanding after learning just enough about this country and its ideals. Although I’m not African-American myself, I practically grew up with them since some people that I have come to know are black and I came from a country in the Caribbean where people, both white and black, coexist whose relations are slightly better than the one here in the US. It’s very true that Barack Obama became such an icon for the history books for being the first black President. However, the downside was that even though this happened, it didn’t necessarily mean that this man will make significant changes for his people, considering the fact that he’s in charge of the welfare of all people as a whole in this nation that has individuals that came from many regions across the planet. This is why we shouldn’t follow such political leaders because no matter who they are or what they promised, they’re all the same: people who happened to have such power and yet, they’re completely incapable of actually making real change since once they’re in that position, they’ll never want to let go of that.
same here man. i immigrated to the US from the Caribbean and i didn't get (nor did i care about) the whole obama thing. most people from my country didn't care at all either. relations between white and black are much better in the caribbean, but i still think they were overdoing it in the US. like you said, they're all the same- they're all politicians
@@craigime You don’t say, for I’m actually from the Dominican Republic. I was once confused with both countries but I’m glad there’s one that shares the same name. Shout out to all of my Dominicans out there, especially those in Jarabacoa and Constanza.
That's funny. When I tell people in the US where I'm from, they always think it's the Dominican republic. Dominica isn't well-know I guess; we're a small island
@4:02 The best thing about Thugnificent's lines here is that they're literally taken word for word from an interview DMX did around the time of the actual election. Yes, there were legitimately rappers who were THAT out of touch about Obama, lol. Oh, and @14:17.... Boy, it sure is some.... interesting timing to see this joke _now,_ to say the least. 😬
i remember being pressured to vote for obama because he was black and i was black. even with the music. ti with his "you can either be part of the problem or part of the solution" message, or young jeezy with his my president song. and yeah i feel the same way. people shame you if you don't vote but whenever i do i don't feel anything. i just feel like i'm doing a tradition that i get a sticker for if i do it.l
That "national geographic voice" belongs to the perhaps the most esteemed german filmmaker of all time, Werner Herzog. I almost fell of my chair when i heard it in this show. He made a few documentaries like this for real though l. Still the last project i expected this guy in. Honestly thought he was dead until i saw him in the Mandalorian.
Warner Herzog was in the Rick and Morty episode where Jerry was in the alien hospital. He's the one that needed the... transplant. BTW, the actor that does Jerry's voice is in 1 episode of the new fallout tv show.
18:12 he was president ending in 2016. People shouldn’t still be asking one way or the other. He had his pros and cons. Basing it on his race and what races he helped is a fool’s errand
Ah yes, our first only 50% Caucasian president. He was president of the United States, not the president of Africa America. That ought to tell you what he had to be about. Under him, Ghaddafi was killed and slavery was brought back to Libya. Under him, free health care had been based upon a Republican model and handed over to the corporations. He had already sold out when he had decided to run for the Senate, deciding that being in office was far more important than maintaining integrity. Sure, there was change, but scarcely a hope that wasn't dashed to the ground. Electing people to vote on legislation regardless of your will is republicanism. Voting on the legislation that affects you is democracy. Which do Americans actually support? In the entire world, only in Switzerland are citizens allowed to vote at the national level on the legislation to affect them. In the Republic for which Americans stand, only half the states have ballot initiative, referendum, or recall, and not even the president is elected by the people. Those who don't care to have a democracy should never complain about not having one.
I’m graduating in May with a degree in political science. Tbh Barack’s presidency never stood a chance. The Supreme Court was conservative leaning, so any Obama legislation was shot down as being unconstitutional, the ACA only passed because of bipartisanship. A lot more stood in his way + respectability politics. The reverend at the beginning was based on a real priest that was associated with Obama, but he later disassociated with him because he was so radical and conservatives began to basically crucify Obama for ever associating with him.

Because it’s 98% true. And the 2% mostly consists of names that were changed lol

The D-Riding Obama song is still one of the funniest things I ever heard 😂😂😂😂
Yea it is😅
Barack Obama is voiced by Cedric Yarborough who also voices Tom and Stinkmeaner.
Ahhh lol
Season 5: Tom gets possessed by Obama and also Stinkmeaner again
The Pastor screaming in the beginning was jeremiah wright. One of Obama's mentors.
"Permanent scowl" could reference the fact that Huey Freeman is NEVER drawn with a smile. Everyone else smiles, but Huey.
They have episodes that Huey Smiled

I'd say those are more amused smirks. The facade breaking.
Boondocks is needed right now for this election
