It's amazing to me that this story hasn't gotten more recognition and that this interview didn't have a single comment. This is very insightful and interesting.
I listened to the audiobook and it was interesting. One glaring part was Knight talking about not getting sick because he wasn't around people. He was constantly doing B&E's into people's homes and taking their food and other items. Some things will live outside the human body for a time and I don't believe him for a second with all he had to steal to survive. If anything isolation makes someone get even more sick to new strains of infections. An extreme example is the death of millions of native americans. And I don't see him fitting the definition of a hermit either. There could be a guy in Alaska who brought tools and knowledge to a remote location to build his own cabin himself, and weapons to hunt and seeds to grow food and never interact with anyone again. THAT is a hermit. Knight was a parasitic leech that lived 3 minutes away from "civilization".
I don't think it's that strange . Is it rare, yes , but HONESTLY - HOW MANY OF US THINK OF RUNNING AWAY AT SOME TIME IN OUR LIVES . May it be for a breather or longer . THIS MAN MADE A DECISION AND FOLLOWED THROUGH . I think the Question should be , HOW DID HE ARRIVE AT THAT DECISION??? Was he unhappy and contemplating Suicide , but thought , let me try this first . Or was it , something that was in him for a long time , or was he running from pain , or ??????
