  • A powerful storm has swept across parts of Turkey, leaving widespread destruction and causing significant disruption to daily life. The storm, which hit late on Sunday evening, brought heavy rains, strong winds and flooding, with coastal areas and major cities particularly affected.
Istanbul, the country's largest city, bore the brunt of the disaster, with streets submerged and traffic at a standstill. Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu warned residents to stay at home as emergency services try to respond to dozens of calls for help. “We are doing everything we can to ensure the safety of our citizens,” Imamoglu said in a statement, urging caution as the storm is expected to continue through Monday.
In the southern province of Antalya, strong winds uprooted trees and damaged buildings. Local authorities reported that some residential areas were without power and several roads were blocked by debris. Meanwhile, fishermen along Turkey's western coast were advised to stay in port as dangerous sea conditions made traveling risky.
