Thank you for this video, in general do postbacs applying for the NIH postbac program have previous research or laboratory work experience that they draw from during the application process?
Hi Tiffany, I had the same question as Eduardo, and can't see your reply for some reason :( I have emailed 11 PIs so far, but have only received two responses back. Would you have any advice on how to reach out to PIs more effectively?
Hi Tiffany, This video was super helpful! I recently submitted my application. Is there an email I may reach you at? I wanted to get more insight into how you balanced research and the med school application cycle/ MCAT. Thanks.
Hi, thank you for your video. I have submitted my application and have contacted many PIs -around 15, but many of them have not replied. Is there a way to find out about upcoming science seminars at NIH where I may be able to meet PIs in person? And also it would be cool if they had a place where they accumulated reviews for PIs from previous post-bacs
Wow! thanks for the helpful advice. I was starting to get discouraged since a lot of the PIs never respond, while others say that they cant accept students because of the budget. But as you suggested, I am going to start doing some deeper searching about specific PIs and then seek Dr. Milgram for help. Ive seen the great video she posted on You Tube as well.
Thanks for the video. My question may sound dumb to you but can you elaborate exactly what you mean postbac for the NIH? My undergrad degree is not medical related but I am considering changing my career to medicine. However, I will need to take my pre-requites so I have been looking for Post Bac Pre Med programs. Does NIH Offer this program? If so, do you know how I can get in or what their process is? I'm currently working in Bethesda and live right down the street. If NIH has this program, it will be perfect because I will be close to home. Please advise. Thanks!
No problem! The postbac program at the NIH is a program that allows those who have graduated undergrad to perform full-time research for one or two years. Pre-requisites are not provided by the program but there are classes you can take while you are at the NIH (google FAES). However, you will have to pay for the classes if you take them. And being in Bethesda is great because most of the NIH labs are in the Bethesda campus. Good luck!
How long did it take before you heard about getting the position?
thank you so much for making this video! very helpful :)
Any chance I can hear more from your story? I'm interested in applying to this!
