Ok ok, I know this is gonna help someone who is struggling to get output from there turntables whilst following this tutorial. If using Mac OSX (may possibly apply to windows as well) make sure that traktor has access to your microphone. Failing to have this setting applied will mean your software, and subsequently your controller will not be able to accept external audio input. Go to system settings > privacy > privacy > microphone > allow traktor access. This had me stuck for a while but I stumbled upon a commenter suggesting this on the NI forums and it worked!
Glad this vid is still up was a great help. I had a Z2 and it was so shit with vinyl. The preamp in it was awful. The levels were so low. Had to turn it up loads so then of course the feedback was unbearable. Got an s4 and it is so much better on live input and actually makes it viable to play digital and vinyl. No idea what they was thinking about with the Z2.
Hi Phat Farmer, this is exactly the setup I've been looking for, so thank you for your video it was really helpful. I already have turntables and after watching this video I'm going to invest in an S4 to get the best of both worlds. One question, is there a separate 'Line' input (or any other auxiliary input) to allow another external device like an iPad or a phone? So, for example, when I'm not using the S4 for mixing I could just plug my iPad in and listen to a podcast through the speakers...
Hey bro! I have a question I'm not sure if it was answered in the comments section. I want to buy a MK2 to use with a turntable, but without timecode. My ideal setup would be - turntable with real vinyl in one channel, plus 2 decks running on traktor. I am not sure if I could use the controller as a mixer for the turntable+real records without time code, while still using the software's decks? thanks in advance!
Hey bro, if you followed what I did in the video, you should be able to play vinyl on the turntable and use the s4 jogs for internal tracks. Basically gives you the ability to use 2 tt's & 2 internal decks on traktor. You don't need to use timecode, but you could if you wanted to. Happy mixing
It’s a mk1. You can run an external mixer but you have to direct the audio from the headphones out and the master iirc. I used a stereo 1/4” jack to rca from the headphones for one channel and then just an rca from the master out for another, run then both into 2 separate channels on a mixer. Then select the outputs in the settings

Hey Azita, maybe try using the power cable for the S4. If you haven't got one, try to get hold of one. Sometimes there is not enough power coming from the usb port. Try a different port. What computer is it?
hello im using a traktor s4 mk2 and i connected pioneer plx 500 to it. timecode works perfectly but vinyls sound very low and it has a humming noise, what is the issue here if u know
Hey Roberto, the humming noise could be a grounding problem. Make sure you have the ground from the tt's to the s4. Also, sometimes it can happen due to the speakers being plugged into the same plug as the laptop. If you use an extension from another plug (from another room is good) to the speakers it can go away. Also make sure the tt's are connecting correctly to the headshell. Use a pencil (hb) on the ends of the contacts of the headshell then plug it into the tone arm. Personally, having owned the Mk1 and used the Mk2, I wouldn't bother. I found using the S4 fun, but limiting when you want to mix vinyl externally, it feels cheap and mine lasted 2 years before buttons and faders stopped working.
