You really have to admire the sheer courage Bilbo shows here, he charges in and challenges these enormous spiders because his friends are in danger, no hesitation just "kill every damn spider that Sting can reach"
I remember renting this from my local library and watching it simply because it was an animated film. Little did I know it was my first step into the LOTR fandom…
You're basically describing my childhood at like 8 or 9 years old. We got it from a local library and watched it, and I fell in love with dragons, giant spiders, and little people who live in holes in the ground who never say or do anything unexpected...until their friends are in danger and they pull out their invisibility rings and Elvish Stings.
I love that many others have shared the same childhood as me; and same for me and my local library. I was not happy at how different the digital/DVD audio versions have taken from us. No thrush wing flutter, no spider death screams, and worst yet, barely any Smaug roars when he attacks Lake Town😑
Watching this as a child, I think I would have found this more suspenseful and horrifying with these sound effects added. The spiders actually scared me more than the goblins tbh and they sound like old, sniveling witches from some other cartoon, they are awesome.
I like that spider's tone of voice from 0:51 to 0:57 because one would think the Queen's old hag disguise from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs would sound like that.
They didn't "get rid" of the sound effects. They lost them. Apparently a fire damaged the reels, and Warner Brothers just chose not to replace or reproduce them, and thought no one would notice too much that half the ambiance was gone lol
Thank you so much for doing this! Warner Brothers had no excuse to edit out the sound effects here while adding others in other parts of this fantastic film! Such a great treat and thank you very much once again
It breaks my heart that the original audio was taken out/lost from the DVD releases. The TAAWEEEEEIIIING that killing the spiders made was such a great effect and accompanied all my adolescents swordplay in the backyard or fields behind my house with cardboard tubes and sticks. ✨🗡✨
Who in the heck gave this a dislike? This was the audio from the movie that we don't get anymore because people want to cut corners on restoring the film. There's some of us who has enough respect for this to want to watch the movie the way it was originally put together. I still have the VHS that my Mom bought me when I was little....... okay it's my Mom's copy, but I still watch it. Hopefully someone could actually take the audio from the tape and put it over the restored version of the movie. I would love to see that.
@@Crimson_Snake1 That's no excuse. All pre-2001 VHS tapes contain the original audio. Warner doesn't need the reels. All they need to do is copy the sound from a VHS and lay it over their remastered version of the film. And if they're afraid of bad publicity for using "muddy VHS audio" they can always include their butchered remastered track in the DVD audio settings as an option.
@@curtthegamer934 There's nothing muddy about VHS Hi-Fi audio, anyway.
