Yeah, no it sounds sensible but the gain is way, way too low for the loss in both prestige and piety gain, while the loot capacity is rendered meaningless far too soon
I feel like local army might be broken since recently. It used to be great to raise a small, cheap, varied army when you fight a small force but now in a save after ending the Iberian struggle I have 60k troops and raising a local army raises 59k so it's not really that useful anymore
@@AcMrPro You probably had multiple rally points without knowing how the raise local mechanic worked. The way it works is each county's levies will count towards the local levy number for the closest rally point to that county. So if you create a rally point in the middle of your domain and another at the edge of your realm, the rally point in your domain will have like 90% of your levies.
Was actually a little surprised you opted for Spartan over Industrious-the bonus every time a building is completed would have really sped up resolving the discrepancy in development between your new domains, plus it’d push the County of Mann to even more absurd heights given the extra building slots.
Industrious was recently nerfed, the development boost now only triggers once per year. It's still a big boost, but for rushing buildings Spartan is definitely better.
I make my own culture with Jarl Dyre, I stay in house Af Sigurd (legitimize bastard/restore inheritance). I do a Varagian Invasion of Constantinople, and hybrid culture Greek to get Eastern Imperial Legacy. That gives you Cataphracts. When Halfdan dies, inherit some counties. Use the heir to do a varangian Invasion again (you need adventurer trait) anywhere in Europe. I use 1 varangian vet, 2 huscarl, 2 cataphract. I think the pure huscarl/varangian vet strat is probably more op, but you will smash anyone in Europe with heavy cav 200 years ahead of them
a tip if you're reforming your religion and also want to make a lot of money. Take Lay Clergy, Temporal head of faith and the Communion tenet. this makes you (and subsequently your heir) the head of faith and once you start getting people converted they will just start giving you money for the piety
Another great video mate. Really enjoying these long form videos, but I bet they're super hard to create. Can't wait to see what things you come up with next.. perhaps Fate of Iberia content? Going to set up a patreon soon?
Entertaining video as always and an inspiring goal for myself to recreate your achievements here. I would like to challenge you to recreate my run of hunting down every Karling Dynasty member. I started as Jylland to achieve that and did tribal raids all the time, in addition to a few murder schemes (I have to say that this was on an earlier patch). Also an interesting scenario would be collecting all the legendary items being in the game from the start.
I was just having this in the background while I played EU4 extended timeline, and Rome popped up asking for military access right when he talked about Rome being the last place of christianity, epic.
You should try playing a Nubian character in the Baltic. If you merge culture with Lithuanian/Prussian/etc you can get archer bonuses from both hunting grounds and forestry buildings. Which means by the time you get crossbowmen, they have stats that are almost equivalent to heavy cavalry.
It's not exactly an even comparison. If you go mixed MaA groups you also usually mix your buildings, meaning you can get to + 50 percent effectiveness or so on all. While you can boost a solo MaA higher, you're also only using the building upgrades in this video on the solos. But, not like you even need to try to maximize efficiency as vikings, knight effectiveness + Huge MaA + incompetent enemy ai for developing MaA and its a steamroll as soon as you can fund even 2.5k MaA.
Yeah, what I was thinking the entire time Either what you said with mix, or what was done with just focusing one group which means only one part gets benefits, so obvs they'll seem stronger
While that is true, the fact is that the advantage of having only 1 man at arms type means that you can absolutely stack to an insane degree, and add to that the fact that the Varangian Veterans are murdermachines incarnate. Also the AI won't build "counters" to your 1-type, meaning that sure, they may get some more damage if you fight an enemy that tends to build more counters, but it wont be enough to actually matter. By the time you can consider field full stacks and making your man at arms your core, it's always better to just focus on the most efficient one. For Norse factions, those are the Veterans. For the others I think it's light infantry ( more cost effective ). That way you build them to the sky and watch them rip and tear. Also, I think that focusing on the heavy infantry building LOWERS the maintenance costs, which is a big deal if stacked enough. In short, better to have one at +100% rather than 3-4 at 25/50%
@@drazarkabalblade9486 mixed armies that deal effectively with all counters are better when there isnt an astronomical power difference, since you dont risk the enemy randomly having a full counter to you in any engagement. By going mixed, especially early on with say 2 Light Infantry, 1 Vigimen, 1 bondi, 1 varangian (add horses if can) you win against any 10k stack you run up against, and it costs far less than 5 varangian vets. I'm not doubting the power of min max, but rather its overall usefulness in any one game. After the first 15 or so years of any game i never have to raise my levies unless its some complete disaster
Varangian guards were historically Viking guards for the Byzantine Empire. I usually do a Varangian adventure to Constantinople when I’m strong enough and play super tall using raiding, and then I get loads of Varangian vets so I can defend from any attackers.
The next modifiers you should stack....knight # and knight effectiveness. MaA allowed, no levies. Building tall in India with elephantry would be the way to go!
I know it's strange, but when playing as Norse, I like to start out with bondi. They're far cheaper and come with some pursuit, so I find them more useful in the early game. It's only once I've got a decent economy going, a bunch of artifacts, and a relatively secure realm that I transition to Varangian Veterans
@Ziely You should grab some of the unit and character audio dialogues from the original "Stronghold" game, and sample them into your videos. Would be fucking hilarious.
I just did a Haesting into Viking Tunis run and gods that was a ton of fun. Had the Norse MAAs and the Butr HI MAA that are really good in the desert (forgot their name) and that was a hell of an army since they could kick anyone's shit in with some cavalry support. I was able to raid freely all over the Med, sacked Rome half a dozen times, raided the Holy Land twice and to cap it off I took Romanga from the Pope. Was straight rolling in cash. OH I also got the "Secure the Med" decision and holy shit that is broken. It gives a 25% renown increase but it applies to EVERY LIVING MEMBER. at the max I was getting 160+ Renown a month and got the equviliant of 5 and a half Legacies out of it.
@@Dmitrisnikioff I think its vanilla and one of those decisions that didn't get as much coverage since. basically you have to control Sardinia, Sicily and one other place I think and got me a Kingdom of Borneo-Tyrrhenia or something like that, never heard of it before.
Also try out horse archer spam, 10K of them defeats every army on fitting terrain even with over 20k men without survivors (never underestimate the pope tho).
Challenge idea: Walkthrough / Ironman using ONLY men of arms or a Levi handicap (say you can’t have more than 1000 Levi) Or Only raid during raiding session (late spring to fall)
tbh i think probably the MaA units that are more powerful than the varangians are the roman legionnaires and maybe the house guard you get at the fifth perk in the warfare legacy, and considering you can only get the legionnaires by creating a custom character with the roman culture it is safe to say the only one more powerful than the varangians are the house guards that you're not gonna be seeing in the early game anyways

I have a few questions, first why do you create a new spawn point instead of just moving the original one? Second: why do you click "raise local armie" and not "raise men at arm"? Third: why don't you Ctrl+click to spawn your army? of course supply but when the enemy army is just next to the tile you make them spawn it's not that important and with only men at arms spawned supply shiuldn't be an issue.

@@Zieley It's a pretty fun start, you start next to a holy site but it's held by the Byzantines, but as a feudal vassal of a tribal kingdom you're weak as hell. I'm pretty sure that the simplest way nowadays might be to do a dissolution faction, then swear fealty to Byz, take the holy site then dissolve again. Another option was to set Norse adventures to apocalyptic, as they then often target Crimea but uhhh, it also targets your liege all the time and then you if you take Crimea. Also their cultural MAA suck; you can merge the culture with the Khazars instantly and only keep the good stuff while picking up Horse Archers instead, they even have a special name for it already premade edit: also, did you know that the Malbarites can form their own, seperate Israel in India? I like building a mix of heavy infantry and archers and depending where i play, cavalry. Since the cavalry buildings also gives money and defensive advantage, i can build the archery and heavy infantry buldings to make them better and have more levies, avoiding thus rebellions. And for the last building, i always go for money and military academies as duchy buildings. The army just wreck things and cannot be countered. I think spamming MaA just for specific cultural MaA.

They're a MaA from the Norse flavor pack and are available to the Norse culture via a special tradition. The good thing is, even if the northern split erases it from all the successor cultures, North Germanic heritage cultures can revive the tradition.

So if you create a rally point in the middle of your domain and another at the edge of your realm, the rally point in your domain will have like 90% of your levies.
@@boletarianbread7349 Wow, that's actually really useful to know. Thank you for explaining that, internet stranger.
@@boletarianbread7349 Wow, I had no idea that this is how it worked. Thank you!
Just about to start cooking dinner and a Zieley video comes in.... Perfect...
I think the pure huscarl/varangian vet strat is probably more op, but you will smash anyone in Europe with heavy cav 200 years ahead of them
Bonus points if you invade a tribal nation and become tribal again. Heavy cav for prestige lol
Oh... and I call it "Norse on a Horse"
Do a levies only challenge
😔😔
Is that the James712?

Hey man
Love that you used "Gold please" from AoE II!
Thanks for your content
a tip if you're reforming your religion and also want to make a lot of money. Take Lay Clergy, Temporal head of faith and the Communion tenet. this makes you (and subsequently your heir) the head of faith and once you start getting people converted they will just start giving you money for the piety
You should make a video where you focus on intrigue to spread your children throughout Europe to create one unified European culture
Another great video mate. Really enjoying these long form videos, but I bet they're super hard to create. Can't wait to see what things you come up with next.. perhaps Fate of Iberia content?
Going to set up a patreon soon?
thanks Simon! Next video will be fate of Iberia 😁
The biffa of the CK3 world. Love the videos mate! Great to hoover tactic for my own ck3 games. The "save fix" is great content. Cheers!?!
9:36 is this timeline's equivalent of the hordes descending
More of the hour long episodes please, this is quality
You should try playing a Nubian character in the Baltic. If you merge culture with Lithuanian/Prussian/etc you can get archer bonuses from both hunting grounds and forestry buildings. Which means by the time you get crossbowmen, they have stats that are almost equivalent to heavy cavalry.
Holy shit, I was just mentioning the Nubians but that sounds even more broken, because you can still get the hunting one in a forest...
I know this is late but the “Making a Killing” Dynastic Legacy also counts the allied fatal casualties, that’s quite a nice compensation😆
Letsssss goooooo zieley posted
Was looking forward to your next upload, perfect timing! Keep up the good work Zieley you make the best CK3 videos.
Welcome back, maestro. Was waiting for a new vid of yours)))
Yeah, what I was thinking the entire time
Either what you said with mix, or what was done with just focusing one group which means only one part gets benefits, so obvs they'll seem stronger
Love to see it keep up the great content
Lmao I love that partially obscured meme poster in the intro
The next modifiers you should stack....knight # and knight effectiveness. MaA allowed, no levies. Building tall in India with elephantry would be the way to go!
Reducing the kingdom of Francia to 440 men by raids from the Norse.... honestly that pretty much checks out historically
You can raise the special army first then raise the regular army, disband special army to not waste them
Probably won't be seen, but seeing you attempt an Irish Empire would be really really cool
one thing you could've done to get more piety would be to mass execute all your rebellious vassals after revoking all their land for lots more piety
Venice: if I stay very still, they may not notice that I also have a kingdom degree.
6:49 unexpected Age of Empires 2 Viking soundeffect
I know it's strange, but when playing as Norse, I like to start out with bondi. They're far cheaper and come with some pursuit, so I find them more useful in the early game. It's only once I've got a decent economy going, a bunch of artifacts, and a relatively secure realm that I transition to Varangian Veterans
Jorvik, not Jovrik, it's derived from York 😀
@Ziely You should grab some of the unit and character audio dialogues from the original "Stronghold" game, and sample them into your videos. Would be fucking hilarious.
One of these days I'm going to figure out how to play this game.
Is that a mod decision? Don't remember it
@@Dmitrisnikioff I think its vanilla and one of those decisions that didn't get as much coverage since. basically you have to control Sardinia, Sicily and one other place I think and got me a Kingdom of Borneo-Tyrrhenia or something like that, never heard of it before.
@@richyhu2042 Ah, it seems to have been added by the new DLC, how interesting
This guy is amazing! ^. Thanks for the awesome content!
Also try out horse archer spam, 10K of them defeats every army on fitting terrain even with over 20k men without survivors (never underestimate the pope tho).
Just found your channel, easy sub. Keep up the awesome work!
Challenge idea:
Walkthrough / Ironman using ONLY men of arms or a Levi handicap (say you can’t have more than 1000 Levi)
Or
Only raid during raiding session (late spring to fall)
Man getting 5 gold per 100 kills is so powerful.
tbh i think probably the MaA units that are more powerful than the varangians are the roman legionnaires and maybe the house guard you get at the fifth perk in the warfare legacy, and considering you can only get the legionnaires by creating a custom character with the roman culture it is safe to say the only one more powerful than the varangians are the house guards that you're not gonna be seeing in the early game anyways
I instantly knew it was that save when I saw it due to me subbing due to that video lol
fantastic video really enjoyed this one.
Me playing ck3: looks like turbulent times ahead
How about a run where u can only fight with knights/champs/etc.
Venice as the entire catholic world burns around them: this is fine- I like money 💰
is the isle of man a dutchy title? if so how could you have had the isle of man dutchy, paris, and Jorvik? isnt that over the limit?
Is the Iberia dlc video coming soon? Imo there has been a strangely small amount of UA-cam content on it and they don’t usually show much of the actual functions of it...
Im pretty sure its out already. My next video will be using it!
can you switch off every (25?) or so years between to places on opposite sides of the map, if you go into devtools you can do it midgame but you could reload into the other character, could make a great east vs west. love the style of your videos, appreciate them!
Awesome video! I really enjoyed it!
in my case most commonly it's just 2-3 heavy infantry and 2-5 siege weapons
I have a few questions, first why do you create a new spawn point instead of just moving the original one?
Second: why do you click "raise local armie" and not "raise men at arm"?
Third: why don't you Ctrl+click to spawn your army? of course supply but when the enemy army is just next to the tile you make them spawn it's not that important and with only men at arms spawned supply shiuldn't be an issue.
Hey Z. I love all the scenario games. I really like that MP match with Welshman.
I do have a request though. I haven't seen a video yet where you go for the decision Dynasty of Many Crowns. Also can you please do it without tons of intruige cheese? Set a bar of like no more than 2 crowns obtained by murder plots or abductions.
Perfekt video to relax after work to😍 thanks for Good content 👌🏼👌🏼
Apart from educational and entertainment value, I Luv your theme- samples from various games and movies. Like from Mario used in this video
hey man ive been watching ur vids for about half a year and as an indian i would rly rly like u to form the indian empire in ck3

thanks for sticking around my friend. I'll have to add that to the list, could be fun to do something with the war elephants 👀
Hi big fan of the content. I have a challenge for you. In 867 there's a vassal to kazaria which is rabbinic Jewish. I managed to create Israel with it but it was extremely hard. Perfect challenge for a video
I actually did a restore Israel series starting as an Ethiopian Jewish character a while back. But it could be fun to do it again from Kazaria
Also their cultural MAA suck; you can merge the culture with the Khazars instantly and only keep the good stuff while picking up Horse Archers instead, they even have a special name for it already premade
edit: also, did you know that the Malbarites can form their own, seperate Israel in India? It's pretty interesting stuff actually
@@Dmitrisnikioff yeah it took me lots of tries, because even if you take more territories they are tribal so you cant even use them until you feudalise them. i got imprisoned heaps but somehow made it. also even though your leige is jewish they are still hostile so you still get title revocations and stuff. honestly my favourite challenge ive done so far
also can you tell me how to form a malbarite kingdom in india? sounds fun
@@theancientape7813 You have to convert to the religion, then take the holy site in India and some of the land there, if I remember right, it's been a while since I did it. Just check through the Jewish religions and it's the one with the holy site in, Goa, I think, same as the Nestorians
And yeah, it's weird how the different Judaisms are all hostile but then again, aren't they kind irl too?
A gift from our saviour!
Zieley, I have a question that seems I cannot find on google, I am new to CK3: how many courtiers I have in my court before I get pregnancy debuff, and does this debuff affect everyone in my court including me? Thanks in advance!
uuh? what do you mean, you are only having woohoo with your concubines and spouse, not your courties, they are there, just being there
If you're Asatru, you can execute prisoners to get piety.
Considering Asatru lets you have concubines, I agree that the concubine tradition does not serve any purpose in this scenario.
finallyyy I was f*king waiting for this for almost 3 weeeeeeks 🗿
I suspect that Berry was hyperventilating the entire game.
Just use Hungarian light cav MaA.
Get as many as possible.
Stack wipe with ease.
How do you get the Varangian veterans? I’ve never seen them before. Im assuming it’s probably from a culture i never played before
They're a MaA from the Norse flavor pack and are available to the Norse culture via a special tradition. The good thing is, even if the northern split erases it from all the successor cultures, North Germanic heritage cultures can revive the tradition.
28:50 internalized misogyny 😨
I like when you try to be the most OP you can
I'm surprised on your opinion about the concubines. They can help expand your dynasty FAST FAST FAST
@zieley how do you prevent your kids from taking lands that you want for main character? (upon death)
there are several means some... more questionable that others, the easiest yet the most expensive is desinherit, cost prestige and renown, the older the more expensive, if him has a martial education ask him to join your holy order, another one is, dont have that manywith the perk restrain, which makes you celibate and gives you piety, first tree in learning education, second point after the first, or divorce your spouse and concubines once you have a good amount of children, the questionable ones are, make an army with just your targeted son and send him to a suicide mission against a big army, thing is him might get captured or magically teleport alive to your court, and the other will be having the Perso Trait Sadistic which lets you murder your children, ah and avoid equal gender until you can change your partition law to male preference, that way you can have female councillors and commanders but only men will be concidered for titles, as feudal the last crown authority is locked in the early medieval innovation of Royal Prerogative, or just use Primo mods if you dont care about achievements lmao
@@Weiswolfe thank you very much for that info!
