Der "Manila Express" hat seine Gleise nicht für sich allein. Menschen wie die Fischverkäuferin Editha Jayko leben, wohnen und arbeiten hier. Direkt auf und an den Gleisen haben sie Wohnungen und Verkaufsstände gebaut, betreiben Geschäfte - und überall flitzen die Kinder herum. Mitten durch diese ungewöhnliche Nachbarschaft fährt der Lokführer Cesar Capena täglich seine 30 Kilometer vom Zentrum der Metropole Manila in den Süden und zurück. Und immer hat er Angst im Nacken, jemanden zu überfahren.

I believe this film is seriously outdated, by maybe 15 years or even more.. all slums by the train track in Metro Manila were demolished and squatters rehoused under President Arroyo's term (10 years ago) and all PNR trains rehabilitated and new units bought from Japan and Korea through both President Arroyo and President Noynoy's term (somewhere between 2010-2016). You can even check by looking at latest videos or photos of the PNR. A lot has changed in the Philippines through its economic boom, a lot of it for the better.
