Today (23rd Dec) there are reportedly 3,800 trucks parked on Manson airport with the rest parked up on the motorways. I have had a note on LinkedIn from inside Manson. For 3,800 truck drivers from all European nations there are just FOUR, yes four, overflowing portaloos!! There are no washing facilities like showers etc, and no interpreters have been provided for the thousands of 'out of town' drivers. Kind hearted local people are arriving at the gates with gifts of fresh food and drink for the drivers, only to be turned away by the security guards. This is deplorable and despicable! This is not a truck park, it's a prison camp!!! PLEASE do your best for these drivers by highlighting their predicament to the U.K. media and local newspapers. I live in The Netherlands and feel helpless in this.

Every time the TV do any filming about Brexit or Immigrants, the reporter usually says there are about 10.000 lorries passing through Dover daily. The Port has been closed for nearly 2 days, and there are 1.500 lorries parked up. So what happened to the other Lorries????
These drivers are not only holding together what scraps of trade are permitted between countries but are also working for their homes and families of which they need to get back to for Christmas. Yet there they are. Neither work or home. My heart goes out to them all. Stay strong people because having loved ones is what drives us home. Merry Christmas.

I've not long moved from Dover and have experienced this twice in a year, its horrendous and I do feel for the lorry drivers, the impact this has on the local area is madness, the back roads all get congested and you simply cannot move, I lost my rag the last time as it was a 40 minute journey back to Dover that took me 3hrs and I'll admit at the time I did take it out on the drivers. There was no police, highways or council presence to assist people. It took about 48hrs to clear the backlog. Most of these guys and girls aren't going to get back till the end of this month. We need to start seriously holding Governments to account for their actions or inactions.

if we voted out of Europe and now with no deals we are going to have to sail our own ship and invest more into British products and industries and manufacturing and less imports , yes it will cost more but thats what the British people must of wanted , if they didnt realise these implications they should of researched it more thoroughly before they voted . I feel for the drivers and get fed up with politicians. However, despite the fact that it's part of journalists' jobs to hold politicians to account, the journalists themselves never have to make the ultimate decisions.
There's also the absolute fact that many many politicians are not good at there job and should therefore lose their jobs. It's one thing to have a slacker working in a grocery store, or a reformed convict serving you your morning coffee but running the country...that job surely calls for a much more competent, experienced, educated, realistic, connected and indiscriminately sympathetic and caring individual. Not saying slackers and ex con's don't hold any of these qualities, but their actions or past actions definitely shape their future and means certain professions go out of the window. There are different contracts existing. Some get payed on hours, others on km. The people which have to work on km are really in a bed situation. I don't want to create wrong information, but the source I got if from is saying, that most of the UK companies are paying on km while the others on hours. Could make sense, as EU drivers have a lot of small distances to cover.

It takes two to tango. 50% of the difficulties are coming from our side - it's not all the EU being intransigent and inflexible.......we are too. Every time the TV do any filming about Brexit or Immigrants, the reporter usually says there are about 10.000 lorries passing through Dover daily. The Port has been closed for nearly 2 days, and there are 1.500 lorries parked up. So what happened to the other Lorries????

This has nothing to do with Brexit. Further, French dockers are always going on strike in Calais - sometime for weeks - so scenes like this can be common in Dover. This is just pure media propaganda.

I've not long moved from Dover and have experienced this twice in a year, its horrendous and I do feel for the lorry drivers, the impact this has on the local area is madness, the back roads all get congested and you simply cannot move, I lost my rag the last time as it was a 40 minute journey back to Dover that took me 3hrs and I'll admit at the time I did take it out on the drivers. There was no police, highways or council presence to assist people. It took about 48hrs to clear the backlog. Most of these guys and girls aren't going to get back till the end of this month. We need to start seriously holding Governments to account for their actions or inactions.
This has amounted to another humanitarian crisis on British soil. Poor drivers.
So no blame at the door of France then? This has nothing to do with Covid. This virus has already mutated and is probably already through Europe. Lorry drivers lead quite a solitary life and will not be in close contact with many people.

I feel for the drivers and get fed up with politicians. However, despite the fact that it's part of journalists' jobs to hold politicians to account, the journalists themselves never have to make the ultimate decisions.
There's also the absolute fact that many many politicians are not good at there job and should therefore lose their jobs. It's one thing to have a slacker working in a grocery store, or a reformed convict serving you your morning coffee but running the country...that job surely calls for a much more competent, experienced, educated, realistic, connected and indiscriminately sympathetic and caring individual. Not saying slackers and ex con's don't hold any of these qualities, but their actions or past actions definitely shape their future and means certain professions go out of the window. What we currently have for a government is (in my opinion) a joke.

There are different contracts existing. Some get payed on hours, others on km. The people which have to work on km are really in a bed situation.

50% of the difficulties are coming from our side - it's not all the EU being intransigent and inflexible.......we are too. Stop defending this government - they chronically mismanaged Covid, AND Brexit. One couldn't ask for a more hopeles and incompetent government. Even May's government were better. We just don't seem to have any ability to 'negotiate' - something we Brits were once famous for being good at, the world over.
The government should have seen this 'dire' situation coming weeks.....no months ago. Instead they laughed at the very idea that lorries could be stuck in long queues at Dover, and called people who suggested this could happen 'naysayers' and 'doom mongers'. Well it's happened and the joke is very much on them (the UK government now). They're the ones who'll be scraping masses of egg off their faces come January 2nd. It's not looking good at all.
As we all know, this year Covid has stopped everything in its tracks, which makes it all the more mystifying why both the EU and the UK government haven't sought a further extension to the transition period because of this - both from a logical, aswell as moral viewpoint.
It's abundantly clear (despite the Ads on TV and radio) that alot of UK businesses are NOT ready for January 1st and will be badly caught out. You'd think both sides would have had the good sense to extend the transition deadline as a result of Covid dominating everything. But no, the UK government are determined to press ahead.......and ruin more UK businesses, as well as permanently damage trading relations with European countries.
You just could not make it up. No fictional story would come up with a situation so ludicrous as that which the UK now faces. Nevermind this year being an 'anus horibilis', I think next year may turn out to be one too. Then there's a recession worse than any developed country in the world to come.
