This was my first season truly getting into the team after that 2010 World Cup. Can’t say it’s a bandwagon if you jump on while the thing is being eaten by termites 😅
During the second half of this season results really picked up, and it looked like Kenny still had his magic touch. He would play two holding midfielders - normally Lucas and Spearing - then he would allow a fluid 4 man attacking unit to just bomb around the pitch, switching positions and being deadly. This was normally made up of the likes of Kuyt, Maxi, Meireles, Suarez, ... But for some reason he didn't like what he was seeing, and that summer he basically bought an entire new midfield in Adam, Henderson and Downing. When the new season started, the likes of Meireles were benched, and even Suarez was a substitute in some games .... He spent a small fortune to make us worse, and only Hendo went on to be worth the outlay.
Nah, this was still better than 14-15. At least we had half season of Suarez, and Kenny brought great positivity all around the club as well as offensive football in the second half of the season with Maxi and Meireles catching fire. We also kicked out H&G and saved the club from administration. All around it was a positive from where we started at the beginning by appointing Hodgson. 14-15 had absolutely zero positives. Terrible football. Terrible front line. Never looked like doing anything of note during the season. Got embarrassed by relegation side Villa in the FA Cup. I remember losing to QPR that year after being 2-0 up with about 10 mins to go and just thinking ‘we are never, ever gonna win the league are we’
^in 11/12, that was. That was the year the Mancs fought out that insane title race and I remember thinking ‘why can’t that be us, why is that never us’.
