I’ve been watching this on and off all day, and I want to tell you…you don’t be afraid of colour. Colour is more of your friend than the neutral loving Instagram pages and Pinterest would have you think. The beautiful thing about knit and crochet is, you can play with colour in a way shopping at Yorkdale and other big malls won’t allow you too. Keep experimenting and have fun with colour!
Loved hearing you describe the differences in the yarn you chose Vs the recommended yarn for your Eva cardigan and the effect you feel that had on the structure of the button band and collar. So much to consider when we choose a yarn and that's something new for me to think about. Thank you for sharing your experience.
For the hot water bottle, you could maybe try just taking some spare yarn and closing up the hole a little from the wrong side. It would be a shame to lose the FO when it’s already done and so pretty!
Fabulous knits! What a beautiful parade. Your balaclava is exceptional and I'm jazzed for your new cabled cast-on. Wishing you a lovely holiday full of lovely knitting moments.
You’ve got beautiful knits and crochet items! I’ve knit a couple of the patterns and thought I would do the petite knit cardigan next, but I absolutely love the purple tweed petite knit pattern with the turtleneck and for the life of me right now I can’t remember the name of it. It’s gorgeous, and you’re right by saying the tweed and the Heather doesn’t make it look super oversized and swallow you up! That’s exactly what I would like myself. I got some gift cards and our local yarn shop in Barrie is open tomorrow so I am shopping! Hope you’ve had a good Christmas! Thank you for sharing!
Pyrm hooks are good, but Clover hooks are very popular for a reason. They are smooth and a hybrid style that suits many makers. You could also try an inline hook vs. tapered hooks.
@highfiberknits it’s the shape of the hook head and mouth too, but yes. Inline hooks have the same diameter as the handle. The hook mouth is deeper too, making it easier to catch your work. Susan Bates are inline, as are Furls. Boye hooks are tapered, as are Loops and Threads. Clover and Tulip are more of a hybrid of the two, and I think Pyrm is as well. I used to only crochet with Susan Bates hooks, but once I tried Clover hooks those became my all time fav.
Have you considered adding some kind of afterthought buttonhole to the sides of that purple tank top to fix the gapping issue? Not sure if it would work (having never done it myself!) but if you don't want to frog it, maybe a solution?
Good timing for this episode! I've been mulling over what to purchase during The Knitting Loft sale (and I got a gift card for Christmas 😊)...and I'm reminded that I've been wanting to try their Cardi base. I love the colour that you've used, but wonder if it would work for my pale skin tone 🤔. Maybe I'll just go for it. Something I do now when knitting cables...for the purl stitch right after the cable, I wind the yarn around the needle clockwise as opposed to counterclockwise. It tightens up a possible gap. It does result in a twisted stitch which is easily resolved on the next row. I think this might be called combination knitting, but not positive.
That’s a really helpful tip for the cables; I’ll try it out on a future cabled project just so I can keep all my cables the same on this one. I’d love to know what you ended up picking out from TKL!!
@highfiberknits I ended up changing my mind...I ordered some De Rerum Natura Gilliatt for a Boxy Blue Raglan, and a few colours of Holst Supersoft to add to my collection so I can knit the Iris Pullover 😊
I would recommend trying the Clover crochet hooks vs Prym. They’re very comfortable and the tip works well with most, if not all, yarn. Prym is hard to find in Toronto. Other than the sizes that Michael’s sells, Amazon or going to Prym directly is probably your best bet. Many retailers in the GTA that stocked Prym have stopped selling it. clover is definitely the most popular choice for crochet hooks for good reason.
Hmm glad to know I wasn’t missing a major retailer that stocks the prym. I’ll definitely go back to Michael’s when I need more crochet hook sizes though!
Is no one else terrified of a hot water popping and burning them??? I always think the covers look so cute but I simply cannot get over that fear after reading a few horror stories. Apparently you really aren’t meant to sleep with them for this reason.
It’s definitely important to be careful! I usually fill mine at least an hour before going to bed so it’s warm and not still hot. Also being careful with the temperature of water I’m starting with; I make sure I can tolerate it on bare skin first!
Great to see you more relaxed about knitting and taking things less seriously, you look really happy!
Thank you!!!
I haven’t made time to sit down to watch your videos in some time now, but it’s so nice to see your face again🥹

The Amy Sweater is totally awesome! I hope you have the BEST time yarn shopping tomorrow!
In love with all of your knits! Merry Christmas 🤎
Thank you!

Thanks you for your recommendation! Is online referring to no change in circumference on the hooks?

Ur shift is the best one I have ever seen !
Wow that is high praise!!

Absolutely love your knits! How many skeins did you use for your No.1 blouse?
Thank you! I used 4 skeins of the Cardi base from The Knitting Loft
Have you knit with Linen quill? The fiber combo is glorious and purl Soho is currently having a sale.
I’ve heard such good things about linen quill, but unfortunately I usually react to fiver blends with alpaca ☹️
Make fingerless mitts with that aqua yarn u are going to frog out of that camisole . Maybe put a mohair with the yarn ?
Definitely a good idea! I actually frogged it right after filming so I couldn’t lose my nerve lol. I cast on a headband tube right away!
❤

I fill mine up with the hot water coming out of my tap that I can put my hand under and it’s plenty hot enough to warm up my bed and snuggle with!
