The way he's described the game makes it sound like Pillars of Eternity 2, but in 1st and 3rd person view, with vertical movement. The progression trees and weapon upgrades are also reminiscent of Pillars of Eternity 2. I'm actually more excited that it leans more towards Pillars in its design. The sad part is that we may never get another isometric Pillars of Eternity game if this one does well. If anyone hasn't played Pillars of Eternity, please do. Choice and consequence are a big part of it. Obviously, Pillars of Eternity was built when Obsidian was independent, and the game leans more towards AA or indie feel. I would put the RPG elements on par with Baldur's Gate 3 or Fallout: New Vegas, especially with its factions.
Luke is incorrect about the Matt Hansen comments; He said he wants to offer his free time to looking at art portfolio's with a focus on priority to people of color. He could have worded his comments better, but he was looking at giving more opportunities to people of color in the game industry. He never said anything about not hiring white people, that is why he isn't in trouble. He never said he was hiring people, just offering his professional advice to people wanting to break into the game industry.
I wholeheartedly agree on the inventory/gear upgrade system! I think it's a complete downgrade when you have a system like FF16 where you get incremental upgrades every little while. Makes the gear feel bland, boring, and forgettable. Which is a shame because in FF16, all the artwork put into the weapons were top notch, but there's barely any attachment to be had. I miss the old CRPG days where you can find some truly remarkable and unique pieces of gear that comes with its own backstory, name, look, and even effects. It even makes the spaces and challenges where they are found even more exciting.
Remember when Nintendo showed a dark and gritty Zelda demo for the GameCube and people got pissed about Windwaker being cure and colorful? How did that rage age 😂
I think a good example of trash gear is the gear in Kingdoms of Amalur. The helmet could be level 25, but the rest is like 2-10. It would be a good set if it were usable.
There's something about the blue guy that looks so boring. Like they sat there going "We need a new race aside from humans" and they just colored him blue and that's it.
The game just looks very cheap to me. I guess gamepass users will be happy to have a "big" rpg for no additional cost, but i'm not sure the reviews on steam will be super positive from the people who will buy it for 70 bucks.
Do not tell people to file lawsuits if you don't know more about the situation. The art director is not in charge of hiring and there were no discriminatory practices. He offered priority to POC on portfolio advice on his own time. All this legal talk based on false information just fuels the already stupid comment section.
I lost interest in the game after Matt Hansen had his Twitter meltdown few weeks ago. I dont support unprofessional behavior of devs who act like spoiled little brats on social media. Another reason: the characters look like crap. Seriously, they look like those cheap asset flip early acces Unreal Engine games all over Kickstarter. Ugly, generic, lifeless faces with no personality.

I think Avowed will do amazing. Just the fact that it looks like Skyrim, and is being compared to it, and it'll be on Game Pass, is enough to make it blow up with popularity. There are a lot of good games coming out at the same time, but none of them really are big number games that mass appeal to casual gamers. KCD2 looks great, but I dont agree its going to pop off, its going to be a very niche RPG. Its only real competition is going to be Monster Hunter. Assassin's Creed Shadows should be major, but I don't think it will at all, that one is going to fail, no one is excited for it, no one cares about AC anymore.
I'm playing through KCD1 right now, I'm super hyped about the sequel. It looks amazing I'll play it up to the MHwilds launch, when I'm finished with that I'll swap back to KCD2 while I wait for the content updates for Wilds. Sorry Avowed I'm all booked up for the foreseeable future

Yeah fuck that art director but still if you played POE1 and 2 you know where this game is going. And like a lot of people complained about POE 2 about the art style too and the setting being more about pirates and shit but still was a pretty good RPG. If Avowed is still a pretty good RPG, I mean that's all I need and want tbh. It doesn't need to be groundbreaking or anything like that but a good story and some good world building which I think they already have imo, that's all they need. Btw if you like CRPGs like BG3 go play Pillars of Eternity, it's pretty fucking cool.

@@Tearfromthered9 Yeah, that's my point. US Americans are lucky that they can talk the way they want to (for the most part). In Germany, for example (where I'm from), this type of talk can get you serious prison time even if you don't really mean it.
@Balkan: If I were u , I would stop complaining or comparing ur country to the he11hole u are comparing it with.
And Tbh I would say that is good since the whole freedom of speech sthick is absolving ppl of any responsibility for whatever they say and is pure anarchy
and the situation on ur side feels more like it's much more balanced so ppl don't just run their mouth and go away scot-free but there is weight behind the words and consequences for that.
I will get it. Obsidian hasn't disappointed me yet. Yes art director was cringe but a whole team developed it.
That one director killed it for me, I can't just support a person that thinks we are garbage.
@praisetheoak I mean I get feeling angry at him, but he obviously doesn't speak for everyone on the team, and most likely they all think poorly of him just like you do. No reason to complete avoid the game because of one guy
@@praisetheoak are you a crusty old white guy?
lol luke deleted the comment i made
@@Cubanisimo09 well that's too bad. Dude potentially lost them a bunch of sales cuz he couldn't stay off of twitter. Besides, alot of the devs probably have the same or similar beliefs to the art director. The rot runs deep
It just looks too generic fantasy. It doesn't have it's own identity. The art direction is amateurish. It just doesn't appeal to me, and I love Obsidian games.
The Outer Worlds 2, on the other hand, I'm looking forward to. It looks like a continuation of the fun and uniqueness of the first game.
Looks like pillars of eternity 🤷♂️
it looks exactly like the pillars of eternity world so it’s doing its job
I just hope that OW2 has more interesting writing than the first game, the whole "corporation is stupid and bad" got old real quick
Y’all Americans are ready to sue
It looks like DA Veilguard to me
Remember when social media didn’t influence people to not buy their games
"Oh God. I did him a dirty with that freeze frame." LOL Force's face @32:35
Game looks very cool but still I'm waiting for reviews.
After how boring Outer worlds was. I have no faith in todays Obsidian.
Why would I buy something from someone who hates me for my skin color?
I have more faith in Obsidian's ability to make Bethesda games than Bethesda.
Looks pretty fun. Obsidian don't miss!
I am a bit less skeptical now. But I still have one big question: Does it have a FOV slider?
I wholeheartedly agree on the inventory/gear upgrade system! I think it's a complete downgrade when you have a system like FF16 where you get incremental upgrades every little while. Makes the gear feel bland, boring, and forgettable. Which is a shame because in FF16, all the artwork put into the weapons were top notch, but there's barely any attachment to be had. I miss the old CRPG days where you can find some truly remarkable and unique pieces of gear that comes with its own backstory, name, look, and even effects. It even makes the spaces and challenges where they are found even more exciting.
Only ones who will be hating on this will be the ponies....😂😂😂 Xbox for the WIN
Remember when Nintendo showed a dark and gritty Zelda demo for the GameCube and people got pissed about Windwaker being cure and colorful? How did that rage age 😂
I think a good example of trash gear is the gear in Kingdoms of Amalur. The helmet could be level 25, but the rest is like 2-10. It would be a good set if it were usable.
There's something about the blue guy that looks so boring. Like they sat there going "We need a new race aside from humans" and they just colored him blue and that's it.
It looks kinda good. It reminds me of dark messiah and oblivion combined.
The game just looks very cheap to me. I guess gamepass users will be happy to have a "big" rpg for no additional cost, but i'm not sure the reviews on steam will be super positive from the people who will buy it for 70 bucks.
Avowed will probably end up like outer worlds below average tbh
Do not tell people to file lawsuits if you don't know more about the situation. The art director is not in charge of hiring and there were no discriminatory practices. He offered priority to POC on portfolio advice on his own time. All this legal talk based on false information just fuels the already stupid comment section.
Doesn't matter Avowed is DOA just because of art director. Hopefully it Concords the company, n I'm someone that played both Pillars too.
not gonna buy this
I lost interest in the game after Matt Hansen had his Twitter meltdown few weeks ago. I dont support unprofessional behavior of devs who act like spoiled little brats on social media.
Another reason: the characters look like crap. Seriously, they look like those cheap asset flip early acces Unreal Engine games all over Kickstarter. Ugly, generic, lifeless faces with no personality.
It’s my most anticipated game of 2025 I love pillars of eternity, and the use of colors reminds me of poe2 deadfire and I absolutely cannot wait
I like the world they created a lot, i loved the story of the first, much better than the second pillars imo, but im not paying these prices, no way, gonna wait for a few months, grab it when its on sale. On a side note i really wanna know who buys a story rich rpg and goes straight for the main quest and finish the game without doing any side questing? Its crazy imo.
gamepass is $10
@@MaxIronsThird It’s $20 now
@@belligerent2941 that's Ultimate, PC GP is $10, Xbox GP is $15
Because of The Outer Worlds (empty shell of FO:NV), I don't have high hope.
WTF are you talking about? The Outer Worlds was a lot of fun. Guess you didn't play it.
@@ScytheNoire Not as fun as FO:NV, Guess you didn't play New Vegas.
@@sysendifyplayed NV never liked it better that fallout 3🤷♂️ and lets be honest NV wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Fallout 3. So the outer worlds was is a good game from scratch no reused assets and no fallout license.
A lot of people did not enjoy The Outer Worlds. Man I bought it day 1 thinking I would, just to be completely disappointed. The combat and weapons get repetitive quick, the exploration is probably the worst I've experienced in any RPG ever, and a lot of the game's mechanics were just an afterthought. I was so bummed I spent $60 on that crap. @@ScytheNoire

This comment section is so soft. The game will be good lol. I really don’t care what one person on a team of likely 200 said
I must be missing something about this drama with the art director. Ive looked a couple times but what exactly has he said that shows he uses discriminatory hiring practices?
I was a huge fan of Pillars of Eternity. It's making me itch. My eye is twitching.😮
And i can't wait for KCD2
...and Dawnwalker (by Rebel Wolves).
Real talent from CDPR and without the scumbag shareholders? I'm all about that.
Not rewarding illegal business practices at obsidian. Civil rights for all not just some
Oh boo hoo
This is how Marxists respond to illegal hiring practices...
19:20 i do not think its good to judge the whole game based off first area, thats where majority of time and effort are put, then usually goes down hill from there
Thanks!
if we want to get racism and sexism out of gaming, we have to start making examples of projects like this one. Non-buynary.
im ngl i kinda love this. im currently playing witcher 3 reading every frickin note , book ,quest, and this seems pretty similar , also guys instead of hating on one guy and throwing this away, how about we acknowledge the love other devs put in this, love over hate
Yep I’m the same , I was excited for the mood they set up in the first trailer and the theme looked far darker , I was intrigued.
Ive got Game pass but I’m looking at kcd2
Luke calling civ an rts was physically painful
the map like the dragon age O . movement
Overall looks kinda bland.
My problem with youtubers like juicehead or mrmattyplays is that theyll hype these games up and say they're good before they release then backpedal after they come out and perform well below ehat modern gaming should be. I'll wait until this game comes out before I buy it personally
😂😂 the shilling
I just know I'll be getting Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and that'll easily take my time away from any of the other games. Avowed still hasn't shown enough to be on my list. I've never played Monster Hunter and Im more interested in that.
After your good review of the early access of Veilguard I'm not gonna trust you that much with a game like this
It might be good but I doubt it’s going to compare to nv or Skyrim. There doesn’t seem to be any abilities that to effect the world and character interactions. Example being sneering imperialist.
You're underestimating shadows discourse. Everybody is talking about it
it's gonna be on egs weekly free game
Did we forget that this developer is the worst kind of developer, you youtubers need to stop worrying about offending people and actuality have a solid opinion where you dont flip and flop depending on whose paying you or your afraid to say the quiet part out loud
As solid as Veilguard, I guess. A game for people with no self-respect.
Yeh its the art design as well. I hope its not becoming a thing.
the art style looks like veilguard but cheap
yea, nah. I won't even be buying it on a sale.
Did you mention Switch 2? lol Christmas came and left. The world moved on
I played in Steam Winter Sale 2025 😂
Im less worried about the art director and more so how generic the game looks. With kcd2 coming out ahead of it , Avowed is definitely gonna slip past my radar.
The game is set in the pillars of eternity universe 🤷♂️ you call it generic but I call it a continuation 🤷♂️
@kevinlist3330 i mean, that's fair. It's just unappealing to me personally. Maybe im burnt out on fantasy.
if half the people in these comments sections always defending their ideology actually bought games saints row SS kill the justice league concord dustborn and so many others wouldnt have failed. none of yall are actual gamers you just whine about media to push ideology, a perfect example is hogwarts legacy with the bullying and harassment
I have gamepass ultimate. So I've already paid for this game. I would have played it if I didn't have gamepass.
Like many other people. I just don't care what some lead designer or art director says. I'm a gamer. I am not a sensitive kid who screams that "he hates white gamers," so what?
It is the game i want. I'm not buying a weekend with the designer or art director or who it was.
Gonna be a great game pass game.
