  • Going over pros and cons of various resistance band footplates (platforms) that I've tried. This is simply my opinion in messing around with various platforms, but I tried to highlight notable differences. I'm fairly new to using these set ups, but have grown to greatly love them mostly in how certain specific exercises feel going at a slow tension with a bar. I'll cover the X3 Bar Platform, Harambe Footplate, Clench Fitness Footplate, and a DIY one my neighbor Mac made.

    I've been using the Innstar bar with a wood plate for years now (even sold a few), might get the X3 bar someday but a longer bar seems more flexible since you can just loop it inside without using carabiners or hooks.
    Can you please review Harambe's K-Bar vs T-Bar?
    Also I have a hard time combining this type of setup with a total gym and dumbbells. I find myself doing one setup per workout since it takes so much energy to jump from one to another.
    I like where this channel is heading! Keep it up!

      Thanks brother. I might review the harambe in the future, because that does look cool. Also I do plan on sharing how I’ve been incorporating use of a sbt along side resistance bands. Sometimes I just do some standalone’s on each one and then jump onto the other, and other times I’m super setting such as a push on a SBT and then bent over rows with the band bar

    Great review, I have had the Clench and the Floyd Reed plates for a while and just picked up a GrabbyBar and already had Quantum Bands. Since I already had most of the components it made sense just getting that bar, specially in Canada but if buying all at the same time the X3 is prob much cheaper overall then buying one of these plates, then a bar and bands.

    Very nice review. I just found your channel and am enjoying it. I have several of the boards you mentioned as well as a few of the systems mentioned. I have the Harambe, clench, Rockafit, and the first generation X3 plastic board. My favorite board is the Harambe and the least favorite is the X3 board.
    My Clench board is one of the first runs of the board and the fit and finish is subpar for what I paid and it had sharp edges opposite of the channels which I ended up sanding down. Because of these things, I rarely use it. The newer ones look way better and people say there are no sharp edges.
    The Rockafit board is the same size as my X3 board and way better made and is what I take with my X3 bar when I travel by plane. The first generation X3 board is junk. You can buy the current X3 board independently if you are a past X3 owner. The price is about $150 and I wouldn't pay that amount for that board even though I wouldn't mind trying it out because I already have the Rockafit board.
    The band, board, and bar system I like the best is the Harambe system. The bars are much better made than X3 and there is just more versatility with their different lengths of slings. The motion of the rollers on the bars is much smoother than the X3 bar. I also like longer bars because the X3 bar always pinches my shirt and skin at the shoulders and makes some exercises uncomfortable.

    • @hybridresistance
      @hybridresistance  11 місяців тому

      Thank you for all of that information, great comments. I'm curious what you don't like about the x3 board and or if you use a larger bar. My least favorite board is the Harambe mostly because I find it a tad to wide and band seems to get slick and not as tight to the board. For sure there's personal preference, but another thing that I prefer with a smaller plate is the band tension and line of action with 41 in bands. I was really on the fence of getting a larger Harambe, but I'm pretty much obsessed at this point with the feel / design of x3 (also a sucker for USA made parts/assembly).

    • @Mr2004MCSS
      @Mr2004MCSS 11 місяців тому +1

      @@hybridresistance I don't have the most current metal X3 board so I can't comment on it specifically but I don't like that the edge that the band slides over on each end of the board is so thin. I prefer a thicker contact point for bands for long term band protection. I also don't like that you can only use it long ways with no cross channels. My original plastic X3 board is pure junk. Way to thin and bends when using heavier bands. The channel for the bands is not deep enough at all. That is why X3 ended up going to metal boards because some of the plastic ones broke.
      I do use a longer bar. The Harambe 28" and 36" bars. The X3 bar pinches the bands to my shirt and skin when doing front squats and I also don't like the bands rubbing on my shoulders during squats and OHP's. For chest and triceps presses, I have the bands going under my arms instead of over the shoulders for the same reason. The narrow width also hurts my shoulders on OHP's.
      I'm not concerned about the bands sliding on the Harambe board as far as tension goes. I have never found it to be an issue as far as tension goes. All I focus on is whether the tension for each exercise is taxing the muscles that I'm working and I use the appropriate bands to achieve that. The line of action you mention is because the X3 board and bar are approximately the same length so the tension is pretty much straight down. The same thing is achieved when I use the Harambe 28" bar with their board. Using the X3 bar with any other size board is going to have the angle of tension as anything other than straight up and down. Again, these are things I don't worry about because all I care about is whether or not I'm using the appropriate tension during the workout.
      I have been using variable resistance since 1997 when I bought a Bowflex. In 2003 I started using resistance bands as well. In 2018 I bought the X3 and it was my first band, board, and bar system. In 2019 I picked up a used Soloflex machine and have been using that as well. I don't believe in using just one modality when it comes to fitness. I believe it benefits the muscles to use different exercises and angles and it also prevents boredom which for me is a huge thing. As far as made in the USA, where have you seen that the X3 board and bars are made here? I have not seen that published anywhere that I can remember.

    Interesting point that you see the band slipping at the base as a problem / negative. I have not used these, but would have thought exactly the opposite, that smoothly sliding the latex would make for more of a uniform tension ramp, and less wear and tear. I will have to check that out.

    Mike,
    Another great review. I've been eying up the harambe board for sometime. But this review and your review of the CLENCH FITNESS Platform turned me off from the wider boards. I don't know how Dr. Jaquish figured it out, but it seems to me like the 20 inch barbell and 20 inch platform is the PERFECT SIZE for HIT resistance band trainings. It literally keeps everything in your 'power zone" so to say and probably limits injuries as well.
    What's next for you? Well, start saving your money and get a GH Accelerator from X3! I'm telling you, this thing is a GAME CHANGER! Right now, it's like $1,400. I picked it up for $1,000 during the anniversary sale. Honestly, that was a great price, even $1,400 for a vibration plate. REAL vibration plates are not cheap. AND, it has a lifetime warranty. You cannot beat that. IT's built like a tank too, weighs like 45 pounds. I'm guessing they will have another sale on it during Black Friday time. Who knows? Also, consider googling vibration plate therapy for all the benefits. It'a amazing science. Mixing vibration plate therapy and an intense X3 workout is heavenly.
    Thanks again for your great videos and may your channel continue to grow and grow! -Bryan

    • @hybridresistance
      @hybridresistance  Рік тому +1

      Yes, I only have used the 41 inch bands. I did see that they make the 38 inch ones, which makes sense to increase the tension on those boards. But I do somewhat prefer the standard length. Also if you’re using a wider board such as my DIY one, I kind of want a longer band versus a shorter one.

    I bought a used X3 on OfferUp for $200. I also happen to win a clench fitness footplate from a giveaway on another UA-cam channel. I did not mind the X3 footplate but I once accidentally lost my balance an the top of a front squat rep and it launched the footplate into my knee. It always felt a little small for my frame. I really appreciate the fact that the clench fitness plate is so versatile and is a wider more sturdy footprint. Being heavier and wider makes it feel safer to use. It just works much better for me. I have not tried the Harambe plate yet but a lot of people love their system. X3 also makes a longer bar(sold separately) that I would like to try at some point.

    Regarding the slipping of the bands. They are SUPPOSED to slip or slide on the bottom side of the board. Because as you stretch the band it will actually get.....longer! That is also why they sell various band lubes.

    Resolution to negatives:
    1. You can scratch the plastic with sandpaper to stop the bands from sliding.
    2. You can scratch the top surface with sand paper to prevent feet from sliding or use grip tape
    3. The nice thing about plastic is you can use a file and add your own taper then sand it down.

      Because I’m not as smart as you. Thanks brother I just tried it really quick and then also adds to its versatility being able to go in a closer stance. I do get a little bit of that slight slipping that address when you get a white as well though.

      I just searched my email and don't see anything. Can you send another email and put "Mac Board" in the subject line? I also may be putting some up on my website soon as well.

    I've been using my X3 around COVID and I haven't had any bands damage like people complaining about maybe they don't know how to do the exercises properly oh and I have many different bands that I use on the system only one band with normal wear!!! For me X3 All Day the other sling system nahhh!!!!

      Are you still using X3? I am using X3 system with other footplates as I am worried that X3 ground plate will damage the bands based on other reviews and the sharp edges you can see yourself when you look at X3 ground plate channel

      The metal coverages that supposed to protect the bands on the sides of the plate have its beginning in the channel creating sharp edges

    do not use the x3 plate. it will eat your bands. I've replaced 4 bands with x3.
    Source: x3 user for 2 years before upgrading to harambe plate and bar. (the harambe bar is better too)

      I mentioned in my initial video that was a concern of mine, but I really think (at least for me) it was the friction of not keeping constant tension. I noticed the biggest issue in the first 2 weeks, now I've I had zero problems along with using other bands. I've got the harambe plate (obviously in the video) but I just love the distance of the x3 plate in relation to the bar length on how the tension feels. What do you like about the bar? The sling system seems to be unnecessary (or a means to get around the x3 patent). I may pick it up in the future for review, but the x3 bar just seems hard to beat.

    You don't have a Dick Hartzell resistance band footplate so that makes this review not valid. Reach out to me if you want to use the best platform in Variable resistance training

      Funny you say that, legs are on my priority of 2024. Problem I have (happening now) my legs including my butt grows incredibly fast so buying / wearing pants is a pants is an issue. But really just depends on how you train the body part and genetics on what pops.

    All of them are cheap, have to small of a foot placement area. If you have any bit of carpentry skills, you should make one customized to your size and needs ?

    I made my platform out of a vey large plastic cutting board. I saw it done on UA-cam ua-cam.com/video/y7fyVoTk7IA/v-deo.html (where else?) It used 4 hockey pucks as legs and it really works well EXCEPT for the slipping you mentioned. Plastic is so smoooth that it cause the band to slip and become uneven. Doesn't happen all the time and happens more with some bands than others. My Undersun bands which I like the most also unfortunately slip the most on my platform. Might be time for a change.

    Imagine using resistance bands to build muscle. Crazy

    • @onpoint357
      @onpoint357 8 місяців тому

      Its all in the name "Resistance ". Resistance creates tension and tension builds muscle. Your body doesn't know or care what your using to create the tension.

    • @onpoint357
      @onpoint357 8 місяців тому

      "It should be noted that scientific studies in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research have found that there’s no significant difference in muscle recruitment when it comes to resistance band training vs traditional weight training, and that both offer similar benefits for muscle growth and building strength."
      "Your muscles don't care what tension is put on them. Whether your pulling on a band, pushing a car or lifting a weight , your muscles senses it as tension .And tension in general produces growth"
      Anything that takes the muscle close to failure will allow for hypertrophy.”
