I don’t know man, I’d argue that Genovese is a bigger and more powerful family, and I say that based on the fact that there’s little to no documentation on them, they successfully invaded attention better than any mob family

I agree 100% . The Genovese family was far more secretive and under the radar. They were as large or even slightly larger than the Gambinos and were tremendously wealthy. They had very few cooperators( snitches) in their history. Far fewer than the other families.

But. Vito knee's use to buckle when Carlo was around?

  • @KarlPHorse
    @KarlPHorse 2 роки тому +70

There is a lot of misinformation in this.
First of all, the Genovese were arguably far more powerful than the Gambinos during Carlo's reign. And arguably still are.
1:46 Carlo was not involved in Maranzano's murder, nor was he Luciano's right hand man. That was Vito Genovese. And that doesn't even make sense, why would Gambino choose to go from an underboss or Consigliere, to a soldier under Mangano?
2:02 There is no single "New York Mafia" there are five families. Gambino became head of his own, not the entire commission. Which you seem to be aware of when mentioning the Lucheses a minute later. So I am not sure what is going on there.
17:11 Gravano didn't "crack." By that point they were by no means "best friends." Gotti was a very jealous man and had grown to resent Gravano's reputation and influence. By the time they were arrested, Gotti was spreading several lies and rumors about Gravano as a means to justify having him killed. And I can't remember exactly, but I believe that the plan was actually in the works at the time of their arrests.
Edit: I feel I should clarify my comment. I do not like mobster nor do I condone their actions. I am simply fascinated by them. Nothing more. I do not think they are cool, nor do I make any excuses for them. They just interest me.

There’s no evidence Carlo committed any murders by his own hand. There were two bosses before him with Mangano and Anastasia. He wasn’t Luckys right hand man either. If anything Lansky was. He wasn’t even subpoenaed for the Kefauver committee. But Anastasia was. Same with Costello, Adonis, Lansky, Accardo, Ricca all the guys with the real power.

The Gambino's, Lucchese and the Genovese. Were the most powerful mob family's in america in the 1950's, 60's and 70's, but it was Don Carlo Gambino who was leader of the Commision from 1959-76. Roy Demeo was not a full member in Don Carlo reign, he was a made member in Don Castellano reign. Carlo didn't approve of Roy, he work for Nino Gaggi as a top lone shark in the 1960's. Demeo did not get his first kill until 1973 when he was 31 years old. Roy was a made man in 1978, Don Carlo was gone by that time. The gemini crew were one of, if not the most fear contract hit-men in american mafia history.

I saw De Meos face on the thumbnail & had to watch this but I don't think the Iceman was just a liar & wasn't connected to Demeo because otherwise he wouldn't know so much about them, he may have not been a hitman for them but I do think they used him for atleast one hit or two so that it wouldn't draw any attention to the Gemini gang by they're own family & the feds obviously believed Kuklinski cuz he knew too much about the mob to that it even persuaded the FBI to believe him which they would know right away that he was lying if he really wasn't connected to them somehow so I wouldn't count him out completely on everything he was telling the government regardless what Sammy the Bull or Michael Franchese has said about him especially if they didn't know what De Meo was doing on his own time & hiding from his own family!!!! The Gemini gang would snare victims into they're lounge & then hacked them up but they didn't go out & do hits on anyone that could actually get them killed by they're own family hence why they would use someone like a outsider like Richard Kuklinski to keep they're operations go unnoticed by the Gambinos

@@YackieChan i was trying to tell you that Joe Bonnano was exiled in 1968 after a failed attempt to take over the entire mafia, way before chin gigante or persico or castellano became bosses. It has nothing to do with donny brasco. The brasco incident was during the Philip Rastelli era in the 80s. The peak era was this:
      1. Gotti
      2. Chin Gigante
      3. Corallo
      4. Scarfo (philly mob)
These 4 people controlled the whole country by 1987
In that period, The Colombos and bonnanos were down and decimated. After 1990, when Joe messina took over the bonnanos, they became the strongest mafia family in the US and messina was The last Don.

In fairness to Carlo people throughout history have married their cousins in many cultures. The royal families of Europe, ancient Egypt, ancient and modern India marry second cousins I think but it’s specific ones that won’t cause birth defects, and Muslims marry cousins. In countries across Europe, specifically England there is a serious rise in birth defects in the Muslim immigrant community because of inter family marriages. Look it up.

First of all the Sicilian misfits is still very much in existence in Sicily, but they were never known as the “Italian mafia”, they were known as La Cosa Nostra. And they were never the most powerful or even oldest mafia in Italy. Both those honours have always gone to the Calabrians. Known as Ndrangheta. They were formed first, were the ones who invented Italian style organised crime, and were always more powerful and successful. After them the Sicilians often tied in strength with the Camorra, the Neapolitan and Campania Mafia. Which are also older than La Cosa Nostra, and in fact controlled the Italian organised crime in America first. So, don’t confuse the Sicilian’s with the other entities. They aren’t the same.

Violent crime like robbery and murder, I can't condone it all. But when it comes to gambling, prostitution, drug dealing. A lot of people have to make a decision that this is what they want to do before anything happens. Victimless in my opinion. You go to gamble, you go to find a prostitute, you seek out drugs. You make a decision these are the things you want and you look for them, they're just providing the service

I think this video was very entertaining but very misleading. Gambino was a small fry during the birth of the American Mafia 1931. He wasn't 1/25 as powerful as Lucky Luciano during that time, I never seen any evidence that they knew each other. He wasn't one-twentieth as powerful as, Genovese, Lucchese, Bonanno, I can go on and on and on. Anastasia had to go, he got friendly with Genevieve's and especially Lucchese , he was given the Anastasia family on an interim basis. And then he showed his true Brilliance as one of the greatest Mafia bosses in history but only after Genevieve's went to prison and Lucchesi died.he was, brilliant and the most feared and respected man for about 15 years until he died but he was not a big player back in the early days but very entertaining video enjoyed it
