- Following a singer can be one of the most difficult parts of being an instrumentalist. How do you sound good without overplaying, being limited in chords and repeating the same ideas?
It's important to understand who the singer is, what their tendencies and preferences are, as well as what the moment calls for.
The objective isn’t to always play actively behind a singer. Some singers want you to simply pad behind them and often time the moment calls for just that. While other singers want you to be very musically active behind them. This 2 part segment takes you through the different scenarios, levels and steps - to ultimately get to the point where you’re playing actively and musically behind a singer.
Here are some of examples of elite level Gospel Keyboardist playing actively and musically behind a singer.

Damn what did I just watch😂😂😂😂
He’s good...too good in my opinion...but I love how he broke down complex stuff to simple bits....I need to catch up on my basic music theory....I understand most of what he’s saying..but there’s need to beef up and polish ... also great video...lol I only play f# so I could get that....vocabulary is limited because of that...which key should I try next...I’m going to be trying C since there’s a lot of videos on it...but man so much to learn till I can create melodies..do sixths...then sus4 then resolve...hopefully I got those steps right
Great stuff
