Such a rad human being. One of the most positive people you will ever meet. Feel free to share this with anyone you know who has a long road to recovery. Smagical is living proof that attitude and hard work can get you a lot further than anyone else believes possible.
He has definitely inspired me. Every year at his pit bike race my son and I get to spend the day with him and I am reminded not to give up. I myself woke up from brain Surgery without feeling from the waist down. I was content on what I had gotten back. After being around him I’ve began pushing for more. Thank you Phil for being you.
I have at least 2 friends that where never supposed to walk again and do. One fixed himself by learning to DJ back in the day when DJs played vinyl, both had incredible positive attitudes which clearly makes a difference. Big ups smagical!
From one guy to another who also suffered a spinal injury in action sports.. Much love... i went on to live my dream of becoming firefighter at age 40 after several surgeries and marrying my physical therapist. So happy for you@@Smagical
crashed my street bike on july 31, 2022 because of some lady who made a left turn in front of me with no blinker last minute. i ended up needing to be airlifted to a trauma center where they medically induced me into a coma and started operating on me. i ruptured my spleen which caused me to have internal bleeding, broke my left femur, right arm, and tore all 4 ligaments in my right knee. i was in the hospital for a month and rehab for 2 months before i can finally go home in a wheelchair. it is now 2 years later and i completely relearned how to walk and even ended up throwing my leg back over after rebuilding the bike. this is such a happy & motivational story, i am so so happy for you!!! keep pushing forward, you are amazing!!!
Phil and his wife have been through so much both as a couple and as individuals. It is awesome to get to talk and ride pit bikes with him in the past few years! They are the most amazing people and the best ambassadors of the sport.
Pretty rare for us to both go from professional riders to fused neck havers. Little known fact, our Great Dane had his spine fused from a car hit at the same time as us. Wild. Hope you and the fam are well !
Lots of great memories in this vid, and others not so great. Haha. Overall very lucky to be where I am after such a severe injury and have such great people around me. Without the people I’d have never gotten this much back from the crash. 🙏
Was just out loading up my buddies son's 450 in cheboygan and was told to look this up because our cousin Sarah, Phil and Travis all know each other. God bless 🇺🇸
Phil's battle against adversity is properly inspirational. That crash was so horrible to watch but his recovery and his attitude towards recovery has been genuinely astounding. What a legend.
I've been blessed to hang with Phil and his wife many times, they are two of the coolest people I know. Phil is on a different plane than the rest of us, and is a explosion of positivity. He will forever suffer from his injury, but still maintains the same level of positivity. Phil is my hero, if we could could just vaccinate everyone with a little bit of Phil, the world would be a much better place!
I had to learn to walk again also, except i wasnt doing some cool shit when i got into an accident. This guy is quite possibly one of the most positive people ive ever seen.
The bikes may not have come back too far, yet… but dang am I thankful to be able to carve turns on the snowskate. Less tricks, more slashes nowadays. Haha. Hope you’re well man!
you really do come across as an upbeat positive person. You took go big or go home to a whole new level. Wish you never went that big, but you never went home💥👍
3 years ago I was left a incomplete quadriplegic because of a car accident that I was a passenger in and you’re truly inspirational and I’d love to meet you and Travis and the crew someday!❤
We’d love to meet you. Travis is very accommodating when it comes to such things and I’m sure we could work it out to get you to PastranaLand sometime!
Have been so blessed to be around Phil and his family. He gave my son a lot of hope and encouragement when he broke his neck and was in the same condition love you brother from big Matt
Your the man smagical. For a person with nerve damage in my limbs mainly my legs, that is a inspirational journey and gives me more hope for the future. Thank you. 🙏
That’s my entire point of documenting and sharing what I’ve been through. If it wasn’t for Travis and the gang finding hope for me to recover I wouldn’t likely have gotten this far. I will tell you to never give up hope on the nerves finding a way to fire again. No doctor knows exactly what nerves are going to do. I was told where I was at 6 months was were I’d be forever. And this day 6 years later I am still getting more feeling and function back in areas of my body. Don’t give up hope.

@Smagical I mean that's not true at all. To go through what you went through to do what you're doing. That's inspiring especially as we actions sports folks age. Gotta learn to do what you can with what you got!
The only thing it ended was the life of that UTV. And so far my ability to do nosewheelies or beat my niece at arm wrestling. But I haven’t given up hope on either of those two things yet. Hahah
Love this video. I have a spinal cord injury and fortunately a decent recovery. This guy is the man, such a positive attitude, which goes a log way in recovery, and he’s inspiring so many. Well done sir!
You know first hand attitude is almost everything when in such a situation. Thankfully I had solid people around me to help me keep that attitude when it mattered most. Glad your recovery was better than expected!
@ I can completely relate, would have never made it this far without fantastic family, friends, medical support staff, physical therapists, etc. My wife did not allow me to get too down for long. I’m gonna check out your recovery videos on your channel. I have a couple of videos on my channel as well, but I’m not really a UA-camr. Hope your future is fantastic!
Phil, my favorite memory of you was during the pitbike triple crown, at the sipes hair scramble. I watched you conquer the extreme section lap after lap, even when others were taking the b line around it. (and lets be real that whole woods event was extreme) You are never one to back down from a challenge and that shows both in your recovery and other accomplishments. You are truly a legend and I consider myself honored to have spent time with you.
I have lost a lot of races in my life but getting back on my two feet will always be the biggest win of my life. I wish everyone was so fortunate. (And I still got to beat trav in a race after the injury) hahah
This is so awesome! Thanks for sharing your journey. This story hit home for me real hard. I also suffered a similar injury in a freestyle skiing competition back in 2006 that left me paralyzed from the neck down. Like you I had an incredible support group and through years of rehab I am up skiing and doing everything I need to. Just maybe not as good or as fast as I used to. I also told myself I would flip again on skis, but I haven't found the courage to try it again. Cheers to you my friend. Keep spreadin the good vibes.
Great to hear you’re back on the snow! I wouldn’t rush the flip but the beauty of skiing is you can wait for the perfect pow day! Natural foam pit! Keep on living. 👍👍

Hahah ahhh skateboarding. One of my passions I never got to fully chase because of the motorcycle gig. But dang I love it. Now I can only do it when snow is around cause concrete sure is hard. 😂😂😂

Not to take to spot light off you because damn it's amazing what you have done and how you are to get where you are. But it also so bloody good that even after something as horrible as you went through doing what you love we have people like the Pastrana family that will still have your back and stick by you no matter what happens or happend they are such good people and always help you bring out the best in yourself. I still remember being about 13 just starting to get into dirt bikes and I would go to the local shop and vacuum and clean up the work shop in return for the life lessons on how to pull them apart and fix them. And while doing this I would get to take dvds home to watch too like Pastranas big back yard
Phil's an awesome dude met him and his brother Pat at a RC function at their property I used to have a little mobile RC shop and they let me bring it there and sell parts to the guys when they accidentally broke something. Glad you're doing great.
