ABOUT ME
I’m 30 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 600 breeding ewes.
I shore over 15,000 sheep this season in UK and I also travel to Norway for shearing in March and September. (Covid messed it up this year)
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on UA-cam and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.
I first discovered Sandi Brock’s vlogs and got hooked! She mentioned your channel and I have to say, I love your videos just as much! I’m an old woman from Michigan in the states. I don’t know a darn thing about farming or sheep but I’m fascinated by the passion you and Sandi have for your animals! Thank you for sharing your life with us! It brings great joy! ❤️🐑
Amazing Elizabeth! How is your Scottish? =D
@@TheSheepGame not very good but I’m learning as I’m going. Sometimes I just like the lyrical sound of how things are said! ❤️🤪
I agree!! I love your updates and ones from before I discovered your site.
I use to watch Sandi But I love The Sheep Game because it's more realistic, less edited and less cutie.
Hello, Ms Elizabeth. I too, love Sandy Brock and came here because she mentioned it. Cammy did a guest appearance to surprise Charlie, so I had to come over and check it out. By the way, I also grew up in Michigan. Am totally ignorant about running a farm, a sheep farm, or any kind of farm. I just have a love of animals.
I watched with my mouth open, when Cammy swung that newborn by the feet to clear it's airway. Then later, I busted out laughing. I can't imagine Sandy doing that. Total CPR and mouth to snout, but not swinging the lamb by its feet. With Sandi's luck, the slippery little thing would go flying and land in a water bowl 10 pens down!
It is great to meet you, so to speak. Have a wonderful day and many enjoyable hours watching the lambing of Sandi and Cammy!
It took me back years to hear an injection described as a jag. I cant believe you are so jolly at this point of lambing this is normally the stage when lovely people start to become very quiet and monosyllabic- certainly not putting on a production of Shakespeare. Excellent as usual
Haha aye i'm so used to calling it that I don't even think! Cheers Colin!
@@TheSheepGame ...don't change it...a jag it always has been in Scotland.
@@TheSheepGame I don't know, but you definately have the legs for a toga! Ya got me with the lamb, I didn't think it would make it... 😀
I love how you include anyone who wants to learn about lambing in your videos!
Thanks Connie! All good fun!
I've watched Sandi for years she is amazing and now I watch you too! I love sheep, I want to learn as much as I can. Sandi has taught me a lot, hopefully watching you will help as well.
Sandi is amazing at explaining things and how she treats different problems. I’ve learned a lot from her too!
You are a natural teacher Cammy!
Thanks Suzanne!
I also have watched Sandi for years, and am here because she mentioned you. I love seeing the different types of sheep you have in Scotland, versus what we have here in the United States (and Canada). I love how passionate you are about your beautiful flock. 💗
I first started watching Sandi Brock at the beginning of this year's spring lambing season...then I found your channel. Yours is one of the 1st videos I look for every day. Thank you so much for sharing. God Bless
Thanks Sherry, glad you enjoy the channel 👍
bahahahaha Cammy I love how comfortable you've become in front of the camera. The Viking Shepherdess has a knoack of asking the questions we are thinking. Would love to see more of her.
Spent my
Childhood helping out with sheep on the farm my Nan lived on in Cornwall. This brings it all back. It’s a dream to have sheep. I’ll get there! This channel keeps my love for it going, thank you.
That's great Alexandra, all the best to having some sheep of your own one day 😊
You are having lots of fun in this one , good to see. Jim , Viking Shepherdress , Robbie and Becky , what a nice crew to video.
Tia is awesome about jumping in and getting the job done , I'm impressed with her . Your narration of Tia pulling the lambs was fantastic . I'm learning a lot .
Thanks Cammy.
Thanks Ronald, was some team we had that day!
Hi Cammy! Thank you for MORE wonderful videos! Watching your wonderful videos is a daily treat for me, and always something I look forward to!
Observing your "assistants" brings home the importance of how initiative, as well as anticipating needs BEFORE they arise, can make or break true helpfulness.
My husband and I love these videos. Thank you for sharing. We have more appreciation for the hard work of caring for sheep.
Thanks Tracy
I love Sandy Brock. I have watched her for 2 years. Sandy is so good to her she, she takes really good care of them. 70 year old grandma from the USA. And I like to watch the GP hoof guy all the time.
You are quite a character!! (The lambing you showed today would make me so stressed and worried) You make lambing time look easy. With those little ones around-you are so going to be a great Dad!!!
Thanks Karen I hope so =D
I have followed Sandi since she started you tube, she is amazing, love watching your videos too, I’m no farmer but it’s so interesting, and the lambs are sooo cute 🐑🐑😊
Thanks Shelley! Appreciate that!
i live in the city no farm but love Sandi and Cammy is growing on me lol
Spot on cam again! Its meconium mixed with the amniotic fluid makes the discolouration- usual sign of stress. Or easier to see them in the dark 👀 great job tia!
ha cheers Jimmy! I can't pronounce that but good to know!
I find it amazing Cammy you can actually hear when all the sheep are making noise that one is in distress and are able to find her to aid in the birth. And another great job to Tia you are amazing at this young age your confidence is fantastic. You are going to be an amazing Veterinarian. And the you could work for the BBC oh gosh so love this! and the little wellie save :)
Hey Cammy, another fun and interesting video. I can see when you’re getting tired, you really get ‘ the sillies!’ 😂 It never hurts to quote Shakespeare and I love your sense of humour. It must help you cope more easily with all the stresses of your job. I’m so glad the two sets of twins you and Tia delivered were ok. BTW, great job, Tia. 👍👍👍 Also wanted to say you don’t need to apologise for loud sheep noise in background; you’re on a sheep farm in lambing season, in a shed! The ‘noise’ is part of the pleasure, for those of us without sheep! We can also hear you perfectly so don’t worry about it. It was great to see the support you had today, and please say ‘hello’ to Robbie from an Australian fan! Try and get some sleep and some Lizzy time. 😀
Cammy I could sit and listen to you all day long. I love the Scottish brogue.
Thanks
for those that dont know what a "jag" is its scottish for Jab. Love your Ayrshire dilect Cammy, reminds me of when i used to live in Ayr
That's the one Jules"!
You are so entertaining even during your busiest season. You’re a natural in front of the camera! I love seeing all of your helpers too, especially the little ones! Best wishes.
I watch Sandi Brock faithfully ! Love her vlogs ! 💜🥰
Came over from Sandi Brock. And this was my favorite video yet! Such fun. Thanks for making it!
Thanks Nicole for coming over to look at the channel, hope you enjoy 👍
Tommy the first time I saw you swing a newborn lamb I freaked out! I'm an animal lover and not knowing what you were doing made me uneasy. Once you explained why it made sense! Love watching your videos - I'm also subscribed to Sandi's channel as well. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Vanessa! Yeah it looks brutal but it makes a huge difference when needed 🥰
That's a Dr. Pol move!! I came straight out of my chair the first time I saw him swing a calf like that but...it works!
I watch Sandi as well and am love seeing the difference in lambing in her barn and you lambing in the fields. Thank you for sharing
I've been asked several times this week why I'm chuckling at my Ipad, and I've gone oh I'm watching the sheep game again. Nice bit of David Attenborough intro to your prolapse harness section. Great video as always 👍
haha some man!
I love Sandi Brock! And your sense of humor!!!
City woman that loves to watch Sandi Brock and now today I have found your channel. Thanks for sharing your days
It is so awesome that you are allowing Tia to shadow you lambing!!! She doesn't appear intimidated to jump right into the thick of things at all!!!! She is going to make a great vet and is already on her way to being a shepardess!!!!! I must add that you Cammy are an excellent teacher!!! Patient and kind!!!! Stay safe!!!!!
Thanks Cindy, its great to have young people so keen and eager to get stuck in and learn. I'm sure she will make a great vet and we wish her all the best.
My own observations here have left me feeling that certain personalities may not be conducive to a role of leadership. The ability to jump right in to a situaltion, undaunted, and recognizing, anticipating when help is needed is an absolutely undisputed requirement in a leadership position.
@@kristinefrink5726 Leadership skills can come naturally to some. However, the role of a good mentor cannot be overlooked.
What you couldn't see was the entire herd watching you deliver the first lamb. It was so funny to watch such a serious birth.
The wee comedy sketch had for some strange reason hints of Jimmy Cricket, I M Jolly and Chewing the Fat. Brilliant.
There was a wee Still Game reference in there with “not good, not good at’all” 😂
Always interesting to see how farmers around the world do things. Just found your channel and really enjoying it. I farm sheep and beef in NZ. Keep it up
Thanks Duncan, I find it very interesting to see how other farmers farm to fit their type of countryside and breed of animals
LOVE your camera crew!!! Thanks for the chuckle. Great video!
Oh! Hello there! 😂 I was trying to pay attention to the prolapse prevention demonstration but the adorable Valais/Jacob lambs were in the background and it was impossible not to watch them.
The micro phone is working really well, really cuts out the background noise in fairness.
Yeah i'm loving the new one because it saves me having a big heavy mic on the camera/!
Great vid Cammy just finished lambing here only a small number upto your flock but being pedigree beltex always entertaining !! Great team of helpers you got and great experience for everyone involved keep it up 👌👌👍👍
Well done Tia, she's doing a good job.
Great lass!
Hi Cammy- James and aria are doing really well! Thanks fir the shout out to the Viking Shepardist, I’ll have to go find her online! Farmers supporting other farmers- it’s a win- win! ❤️👍👍👍🐑🐑🐑
Thanks Meghan. She's Archie's wife and posts loads of good stuff!
Shes brill, follow her on Instagram, very impressive shepherd! Managing her flock all while looking after her cute baby!!
Oh my, I've never seen lambs being born like that and it was intense. Crazy how you could be so calm- I was so worried for the mother sheep during that!
That was a big lamb and a dry birth to boot!! Mom must be hurting some too! Glad to hear you are treating her with meds. Sandi gives a dose of painkiller to bring mom out of shock.
Cammy your wild hair makes me smile😃. Love your videos. Thanks for sharing
All the way from Johannesburg, just loving you videos, the curly hair, humour & of course the accent
Great vid, Still laughing there were some classic moments in this episode, when James squirted the lube way far up your arm, I think was my fav. You have a great team there.
Thanks Mags, got to have a few laughs along the way to get everyone through lambing 🤣😁
Some game Cammy! I can’t wait to watch you with your little one! You’ll be an awesome Dad!
Cammy, your voice over explanation while Tia was doing the lambing was brilliant! We have a small flock of Painted Desert and American Blackbelly Sheep. They can pretty much lamb themselves. Last year however we added 3 Texel /Dorper crosses and although they were bred to one of our Painted rams so the lambs may be a bit smaller, the couple we bought them from did tell us to be prepared that we might have to pull a lamb. I have read and I have a book full of diagrams showing possible presentations, but that was a well timed walkthrough as lambing theoretically started yesterday. Cheers!
See all the other ewes gathering round, 'Baaa-ing' encouragement and sympathy! ❤
Fab video again. Funny lots of innuendos and all your helpers and of course lovely healthy big lambs. Sheep wont need much feeding they are in great condition and lambs always get bigger as the year moves on.
I'm so glad I watched this vlog After watching Prince Phillips' funeral. You really cheered me up & gave me some good laughs. Thanks! :)
You were doing your best David Attenborough impression...hilarious...a very guid video Scots humour wi a wee bit education...just loved it .
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it 😊
Any more in the shed you'll have to get tickets printed. Cammy you could tell it was nordies sent the CDs 🤣
haha catchy tho Paul!
Daphne (she's 5) says that you speak Cammish. I love it. HAHAHA. Awesome seeing the lambing saga continue. I swear when we finally get sheep we will be the most prepared newbies ever. Didn't know there was a prolapse harness. Great video, thank you!
That's amazing that Daphne thinks I have my own language 🤣 Glad you are enjoying the vlogs and able to pick up a few tips and tricks 👍
I felt so bad for the ewe with the small pelvis giving birth to those large lambs.
Worked at a goat dairy for a bit and helped pull some big kids, it's not easy and antibiotics were a life saver.
Good job with the lambing Tia and Cammy!
Thanks Bri
How do you know the leather straps are more comfortable? I’m almost afraid to ask!
lol
Isn't leather always more comfortable? =D
LOL
Haha!😖😜
i did enjoy this video. i think you may be experiencing a touch of sleep deprivation but that little moment in the car when you first woke up was priceless. "I don't know what day it is" lol
Definitely Barb!
Just love your vids entertaining , informative , and it's good your helping a young girl with her education and everyone in your vids are on board helping you and contributing to the whole process of sheep farming
Thanks Michael. Appreciate that.
It's awesome how you and sandy mention each other I absolutely love her also she is so sweet and she just loves what she does, she is the reason I found you and now I'm watching all of your videos lol
Thanks Amanda! Sandi has been great to me!
Well done Tia
You will make a great vet
I came over to your channel from Sandy's channel and the hoof gp! So far I'm liking your channel! I'm from the US!
I'm delighted to see and hear you giving loads of tips and helpful advice about lambing in general as it will be most helpful to novice sheep breeders at least if not other folks who have some experience. Your advice and coaching to Tia with that ewe against the fence was brilliant and I bet she was absolutely thrilled with herself and the great outcome.
What is much more difficult to teach of course is the high level observational stockmanship skills you have by the bucketful built on personal experience! But, if you can and have the time, try to show and tell about this most important skill for stockmanship and how these principles can be transferred and used with other types of livestock including many pets.
Great advice about how folks should use their vet also.
Can't wait to see new videos you post, informative but yet such laughter. We need this now the way the world is.
Thanks Kim, will keep the videos coming 👍
Great video Cammy. Almost there now! I'd be very interested as to how many lambs are on the ground at the end versus number of ewes! Keep up the good work!👍👍
Me too Neil lol. I don't write anything down but they will be in for a drench in 4-5 weeks so i'll get a count then.
Good to see you back with another vid
Cheers Johnny!
So good for Tia to be doing this ... great sho2 Cammy
So much going on at lambing time so great for young people to come and get stuck in 👍
Hi From Quebec Canada I enjoy the content very much and the commentary as well You speak very clearly about your subject . Good luck in the competition!
Thanks Irene, glad you're enjoying the vlogs 👍
I absolutely love your videos. Well done. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks Kirstin! Appreciate you taking time to comment!
What great education Cammy! Just catching up on your videos after a crazy few months and loving you teaching Tia how to lamb. Voice over was brilliant as well!
Thanks Molly!!
Found this channel via Aaron @ the Midwestern Hoof Trimmer...really quite interesting! Ive spent several springs visiting and hiking in Scotland and Ireland and fell in love w the new lambs while crossing the country on foot. so nice to see how they came into the world. You have a new subscriber from Chicago in the US!
Thanks for coming across to have a watch and great that you've been able to visit our part of the world a few times 👍
Sandi Brock was my first UA-cam sheep show I subscribed to. She said to come watch you.
Hi Cammy! Really enjoying your lambing vlogs.
Thanks EMily!
Ah widnae be much guid in the shed but ah could aye gie ye a haun
sookin oot yir medicine cabinet. Mair than wan jag in therr ah wid say!
Extremely informative Cammy yir a guid man keep them coming!
Rofl. That last bit with panning around was soooo funny
How great would it be to have a Sandy and Cammy UA-cam video! One of you has to visit the other. That would be so AWESOME!
That may happen 👀😁
Hey Cammy. How do you keep so cheerful.... Your hilarious.... Good on you. Tia's doing a grand job getting stuck in. You had a shout out from the Mid Western Hoof trimmer👍. Roughly how many lambs do you have now, I've lost count. Hope your weekend is trouble free, the weather is kind, and you get some sleep.... Well done Team Sheep Game👍💪🐑🤗
You have done it again.. absolutely brilliant.
Thanks Margaret!
Brilliant video 📹. You're the third person today who's had some sort of filming mishap, one formatted his card and the other wiped his hard drive.
Yeah I saw farmer P had a bad go with a hard drive!
@@TheSheepGame ..... Yeah! That's one, but his video was still OK
I’m headed into my first big lambing and am learning all I can! I’ve been a bit frustrated in buying products like a prolapse harness for my sheep. The Leicester Longwool ewes are much larger than the average sheep. The one I’m worried about is about 240lbs (112Kg) and the largest harness I could buy was too small. I had to sit up all night sewing a couple 40cm straps with buckles to extend the reach. But I will have to be there when she lambs as it will have to come off for that. Thanks for another great video!
You have more help than Sandi. I love both your vlogs ❤️🇨🇦
Cammy try putting the short glove on over the arm length one.
Cheers Wendy. I like the short ones for general work so it works great when I can just slip the long one off afterwards. In fairness if I have a tough lambing I always just do it without the gloves because nothing beats the grip you get with a bare hand.
I came over from Sandi Brock's channel as well! Loving your videos
Thanks Emily, glad you're enjoying the vlogs 👍
Hey Cammy, love the videos. Was just wondering if you use an external microphone on your camera or just the camera microphone?
everytime i see you with your hat off i keep seeing sideshow bob from the simpsons ..you do bring a smile to my face ..keep up the great videos thanks everyone xx
Good work busy time of year but nothing else like it..x
Some buzz =D
I laughed the whole way through this one. A day late but was worth the wait. 😂
Thanks Fern! Had a few later nights with things so struggled with the daily vlog!! Trying to keep up now
You're doing great. People either get all shouty and ranty at this point or it all goes silly in their head. You are the latter and thats why we all love you 💪
If you like mail , maybe you could share a PO Box so we can send you and Lizzy letters 🙂
Good idea Heather! Might just stick my home address up see who turns up lol! I'm never here anyway!
Be careful, when you get famous they’ll be knocking down your door 😂
I'm not a farmer at all, but find you and Sandi Brock really interesting as you are so entertaining x
Please!
@@TheSheepGame 😘🙃🥴🙌👏
The hog with the stuck lambs had me holding my breath.
I think the wet adopting of the lambs is amazing. Especially when you simulate the second birth lol. So sweet.
The skin technique is also so interesting. I wonder when it originated??
What was sheep raising like in old times...
I thought back to the story of Jacob and how he made a deal with his father in law to separate his flock. He stimulated the spotted ones by placing tall reed in their field. I guess that is like using teasers to get the ears ready.
How did shepherds do there work with no medicine??
So interesting.
That's great Adam glad you have been able to pick up useful hints and tips 👍
That brown stuff is meconium staining. It is basically caused by when the lamp takes a poop while still inside the sack.
Loving the videos mate. Keep them up
As far as I am concerned, Cam, you are the best of the lot.
Thanks James, that's very kind.
Good episode. Lots happening. Very informative.
Seems like you often don't film an ending. It's not strictly nessesary, but maybe you could just stick up a see ya for the next one message as a pre recorded bit?
'Why ye laughin James' Hahaha tremendous.
Terrific and informative video. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it Donna!
You are having way too much fun today.
Sleep deprivation kicking in I think =D
Have you considered selling your pet lambs to pet homes, Cammy? I sold my bummer lambs for $180.00 CAD at 4 days old (ringed and docked) with a ziplock bag of the lamb milk replacer I recommended and a pritchard nipple (which fits on a pop bottle and has a valve so flows nicely). I only sold lambs that had had a feed of colostrum and provided a list of items they should buy plus a care guide. Saved me a lot of work. I bet with covid there are a lot of families who'd invest in a lamb to keep the kids busy.
Not a bad idea but you need a CPH number here to buy lambs so that wouldn't work over here. Sounds like a great wee earner though!
@@TheSheepGame Oh that's too bad, it works out well for the shepherd and the eweless lambs when they go to pet homes. Have to say it's nice to see you using lube and swinging lambs.
Cammy, I'm really curious about how you manage your genetics? I don't see you tagging and scanning lambs the way Sandi Brock does. I assume you'll be keeping some lambs for breeding, and you are selling purebreds. How do you track them?
I saw a 19 lb lamb born on another channel....it was healthy but makes me wonder where all this chasing size and birth numbers will end up.
I am learning things that I never even would have thought of. Thank you
That's great Janine, it's part of what I love about working with sheep, always something to learn and I'm picking up new stuff all the time 👍
oh! hello there! chuckling out loud! Thanks Cammy, you cutie! Luv watching your vids!🦌💌❤️🐑☕️🇨🇦🙏
Horacio Hornblower ready for his “cam”eo lol.
Haha Stage Left
Cracking video lad as always
Thanks Paddy!
Great fun video but seriously well done Tia
She did great!
Cammie you are as playful as The Dickens but you are a very serious farmer and excellent teacher.
Thanks Gabrielle
