I just discovered Emily in you tube but casually . What clear and pure voice singing Beatles melody! I think she will be a great artist.

    Hi Lucie!
The first time I came across Emily was when she posted this little number in March of 2022 when she recorded "White Shade of Pale" as a tribute to the passing of Gary Brooker!
I could not believe that a 14year old girl could make a good representation of such a classic number, boy was I delightfully surprised!
Her vocals so clear and accurate with a delicious edge to her voice and her piano work so cool! In fact annunciation so clear that I could hear every word!
(But I still didn't understand what the song was about!? )
Since then, I have become a fan of Emily and can't wait for the next weekly issue on her UA-cam channel each, impossibly, being even better than the previous, despite her using different genres. Her presentation has much more feeling than Lucy Thomas, who is very accurate, but I don't get the same feelings, in that her voice, to me is too 'cutesy' for my taste, but I acknowledge that she is good!
Thank you for the Reaction, LucieV and will be waiting for your future reactions as well as looking at your previous! ~ R

@@lucievreacts Hi Lucie, I didn’t see this response you did here before I responded to michaelgale’s comment below, but I agree with you. My response to him has some interesting facts about Emily and this particular song that might interest you. Also, one thing I didn’t say there is that Emily learned this song, memorized it, arranged it, wrote the solo, performed it, and sent it to the sound studio for mixing and mastering, and had it posted to UA-cam, all within a week. You will never need subtitles with Em, her enunciation is always crisp and clear, and you will never see sheet music. Everything she does is from memory. I could recommend songs to you, but this is my first time on your channel, and I don’t know your likes and dislikes yet. Besides, there’s no bad choices on her channel. I’ve had about 75 of her songs reacted to by various reviewers, and every single one got high praise.😊

Hi Lucie, it's Mick in the UK.
A fabulous reaction, but once again we have the continuing battle between Emily Linge (pronounced Ling-eh) and Lucy Thomas. But why? They are both exceptional singers. You can enjoy either one, or both, and have the best of both worlds. So, let us deal with the facts. They are very different singers. Nineteen year old Lucy tends to prefer ballads or songs from musicals, even her cover of Whiter Shade Of Pale is a rock ballad derived from classical music; whereas sixteen year old Emily will take on any genre of music. You can’t beat sibling harmonies, and Lucy harmonizes beautifully with her sister Martha, whereas Emily does the same with her brother Christian, and also collaborates with many other singers.
Being able to sing is not so much a talent, but more of a gift. Some say a God given gift? You can either sing or not, and of those that can, some are at the top of their game, like Lucy and Emily. Regarding UA-cam, Lucy has a seven and a half year head-start over Emily, with Lucy producing 60 videos and Emily recording a phenomenal 175 in just over four years.
When it comes to musical talent, again, they are both very different. Lucy loves musical theatre, and I wish her well with the upcoming “Rosie.” When Lucy records a song, the professional recording studio arranges all the music, provides the session musicians, then produces the recording including any sound enhancements and mix/mastering, before releasing the song. A video is then usually made with Lucy lip-synching to the soundtrack. Emily’s musical ability and technique is way above most music stars of today. She has her own home recording studio. Emily arranges all her own music, and all done from her phenomenal memory, no music sheets or lyrics. She is a multi-instrumentalist, mainly piano, various guitars, including acoustic, electric, bass, plus keyboards and synthesizers. She is also multi-lingual and currently sings in three languages…..English, Spanish and Norwegian. Emily then practices until she is happy with the result, she then records the song herself, live on camera as you see it, and usually in one take. Emily’s mom, Christine, records the whole procedure for the video. Following the initial recording, Emily will very often add more instruments with the help of her lead guitarist and mentor Simon Tomkins, but not in this case. Emily will then arrange the mix/mastering at SoundStruck Studios in Dubai, before uploading the final result on UA-cam. Emily is the first person in the world to record A Whiter Shade Of Pale, live as a solo artist.
As you can see, both Lucy and Emily work hard at their craft, but both very differently. So, why can’t we cut out the arguments, agree that they are superb artists, and just enjoy both incredible talents? It is not difficult, is it? So thank you, again for your fabulous review. Please check out Emily's first self-penned song Time Goes By, written as a thirteen year old.? Take care, kind regards, Mick.

Hi Mick! This is the best comment so far. I've learned so much about both of these phenomenal artists at once like I have not in this whole time. I love it! Thank you so much for the extensive info. I know right? There are some real sad people out there who take time out of their day to try to tear down young talented girls like these two. I hope they pay no attention to that. And I agree 100 per cent that there is no need for comparison, they are both unique in their own ways. Also, people are allowed to like more than one artist, no? 😀

I would add to what James Marshall has said: Lucy is in another realm, another musical world, in her version of this song. An overwhelming presence, singing mostly in a smokey, silky smooth lower resonance, captivating, enticing, in a musically perfect video with blended scenes of a ballerina adding grace to the lamentations of Lucy's singing.

Hi there, here's a copy of what I replied to someone else's comment...
"I've done reviews for Lucy Thomas and write reviews for Emily's channel. Lucy has a fantastic powerful voice, but in my opinion she is "over-singing" in Whiter Shade Of Pale. At the end of every line she sings, she holds and sustains vibrato, which tends to become a bit monotonous. As you know, both girls are a big talent. Lucy is a fantastic singer; whilst Emily is a singer, musician and composer. Most of Emily's covers are acoustic; meaning just her voice and piano/guitar; whilst Lucy has an orchestra soundtrack behind her. This can boost the musical impression of a song immensely!
Personally I prefer Emily's, though of course everyone is allowed to have their own opinion, so I am not criticizing yours; I'm just pointing out to validate my opinion! ☺ (Emily was only 14 years old here and she is singing 'live' -- and not lip syncing).

Lucy is singing along to her record player. Emily has a gorgeous lower register and natural vibrato, and great control of her vibrato. She wrote her own arrangement for this song and added her own solo. She sang and played it simultaneously ‘live’ in one take. At 14 no less, and she did it all in less than a week, including memorizing the words and music. She had a million views in the first two weeks. Lucy may be on another level, but it’s still a few levels below Emily IMHO.

Well I am going to offer a different opinion trying not to insult anyone. If you are in love with Lucy's voice, and she has a beautiful voice, I can see you liking her version of this song. I just listened to 3 versions, her's, Emily's, and Gary Brooker's with full orchestra in Norway. What Emily does on the piano here can't be separated from the performance, it is as Lucie says "so freaking good ", it's magical. The part that is missing in Lucy's version is the raw essence of the song that is present in both the great Gary Brooker's version and in this young artist's version. That is why over eight million views. It was because people love this song and they heard the essence of their favorite song being delivered the way it was meant to be sung .You are right, Lucy's video is very pretty as is her voice, but it doesn't get to the heart of this song. Now, I am only saying that about her version of this song, I am not denigrating her abilities as a singer.

Emily's father is Norwegian, and although born and raised in Dubai Emily has become fluent, her latest original song was written while vacationing in Norway where her grandparents and older brothers live. It contains just a few Norwegian words, Aker Brygge a downtown shopping area of Oslo, Kaffebrenneriet, a chain of coffeeshops and slikkerier meaning sweets, it is called Kaffebrenneriet and is a great example of Emily's songwriting and musicianship with an exquisite piano solo. I wouldn't be concerned about the Norwegian, if this Canadian can understand it anyone can. Thank you for your wonderful reaction to Emily , I hope you do more.

Lucy Thomas has a beautiful voice , I read she was doing musical theater and I think that is perfect for her, there will be a great career for her in music, but her version of WSOP just doesn't work for me. Unless, you are such a fan of Lucy that you are going to automatically love everything she does. If it is just the sound of her voice you connect with then it doesn't really matter what she sings.

Happy New Year Lucie V. This girl has the voice n looks but I have to say Lucy Thomas’s version is better IMO. I don’t think the song choice suited Emily but she has other songs that are better. But I’m comparing her to Lucy T and that’s a hard measure . Emily is only 16!, yes 16 no it’s so easy to hear her youth as her voice matures. Emily is a bit unlucky Lucy T is around but Emily has done some incredibly great covers- “ running up that road,Time goes by, you raise me up, n many others BUT I think her best cover is the Beatle’s “ AND I LOVE HER”. She sings that so beautifully. At 16 this girl is another who is already succeeding with so many songs recorded. She seems to love the Beatles especially Ballads. She has a voice like liquid gold n flows so smoothly .
Could you review her please .

The problem with Lucy is that everything she sings sounds the same. Don’t get me wrong, Lucy has a beautiful voice, it’s just that she only has one lane, and she stays in it. She also doesn’t play any instruments. Emily had a million views on this song in the first two weeks. She plays the guitar and is a virtuoso on the piano. She writes all her own arrangements, including, even when she does covers, she always writes her own solos. She has written enough original songs, both lyrics and music, to release an album of original music, which she is working on right now. IMHO, Lucy doesn’t hold a candle to her.
