You know Gale gets a lot of shit for being annoying, pushy, whatever but he's genuinely lovely. So much of his character is embracing his own power and helping build up the people around him, he's so wholesome.
I didn't like Gale much on my first run, which was when his romance was bugged and he'd be all over you no matter what. Even though I was aware he was bugged, that first impression was hard to erase from my mind. But I tried out intentionally romancing him recently, and his dialogue when you talk to him after spending the night with him literally made me cry. I don't think I will ever be able to _not_ pick Astarion at the end of the day, but getting to see that side of Gale was seriously worth it
The only bit that annoys me about him is, that his character arc feels very unresolved when he is your companion/ romantic partner. The origin version, by comparison, is so much more satisfying, both in regards to the orb situation as well as in the self-worth department - or at least it was for me. ^^

the 'hang in there dearest' makes my heart pitter patter. gale supportive and wants to give! he has SO much love to give and he wants to uplift you/support you. he believes in you so much. he isn't perfect but he just -- so much about 'what can i do you for you?' 'how can i help?' 'whatever you need' 'please take my hand'. and im like ahhhhh /weeps. mystra did not deserve him.

Awwww, oh my good _gracious,_ he's so supportive! T_T Gale's seem so much more repetitive than Astarion's, though, and it makes me sad. They could easily have done more than they did. Which is a problem he tends to suffer from, at least in my playthrough. Either he doesn't open up to me for whatever reason, or he just genuinely doesn't have as much to say about much of anything in comparison. And every time he _does_ speak, I like him all over again, so I feel I'm missing out on what could otherwise be a favorite character.
One day all companions will get the same amount of content as Astarion. Or they probably will not, because Astarion is clearly in favor and will keep getting more while others are stuck in the dirt, lol
Astarion is my boy and I genuinely think he and Gale are very similar to one another... Astarion just has fangs and pointy ears. Gale has magic in the bedroom though!
Also, in those little phrases Astarion sounds either like he want to impale us on his fangs or like we're dying in his arms... Or did I imagine this? And Gale just 100% of the time no matter the circumstances sounds like he's about to burst into tears

Soo I discovered this video right as i entered Act 3 and REALLY want him to say the lines. I looked everywhere for a Scroll of Cure Wounds to teach him but apparently they were removed from the full release. I modded it in and had him learn it, but interestingly he would NOT say the romance lines with my Tav even though we're at max Approval and kiss regularly. He was just saying the neutral lines, mentioning Mystra and all that. So he HAS to learn Cure Wounds by level up to say these lines, I guess? He's level 11 rn so I'll see if I can get him to learn it at level 12.
even after like 80 hours of play in my 1st run, I still struggle with "not romancing Gale", like, I wanted to romance him at first, then I met Astarion and this b*tch took my heart away but, seeing how sometimes abusing he can be towards Tav, idk, it just made me wish that I might have preferred dating Gale (I don't care about him being pretentious since I know it's just a facade). . But hey, through thick and thin, so I will stay with Astarion, hoping that, well, that he starts being kinder with my Tav (because I'm kinda sick of being abused for like caring for him, even though I know that he became like that due to his past and all but bro, it's hard to recieve so much sh*t). So yah, it's in these moments that I'm like daydreaming about dating Gale but I just can't break up with Astarion, I know it would destroy him and I don't know if my Tav would be happy with Gale after all that's happened either ways. . So I shall date Gale in the next life (in my next playthrough lmao), but argh, it's gonna be in soooo long !!
I know the only way I'll be romancing any other character other than Gale is if I'm playing one of the origin characters (i.e. - if I want to romance Astarion or Halsin, I'll play Shadowheart. If I want to romance Wyll, I'll play Karlach). Playing my own character, though? Gale - 100%, every time.
I'm realizing the possibility that these lines might not actually be IN the game currently... I'm not sure. They're in the game files, pointed to in the code, but I haven't managed to get them to trigger in game either. Granted, I'm only able to test romanced-related lines with Astarion. Its finally dawned on me that yeah, NO ONE is saying cool things when healing or buffing, only when helping up someone prone or downed. In all honestly I might have lightly (?) flubbed up 😅 Jumped the gun by adding these before thoroughly investigating... Sorry about that.

I just tested with Gale by giving him a bard level, apparently the trick is that the spell needs to be a melee range heal/buff spell, and he needs to be standing far enough away to have to run over to say a line. Just posted a short demonstrating how it works.
