Chocolate Star is the name of his bass guitar. He even says so in the song. But it still was freaky.
Double entenders for the ladies don't spoil it for them.. LOL
😜
The BASS NAME ISN'T CHOCOLATE STAR
I heard him SAY IT 2 IN THE SONG OK. .BUT HIS BASSES WERE WHITE THEN HE DIDN'T GET THE DARKSTAR BASSI UNTIL THE 90s
Space Bass. Not Chocolate Star.
It actually was much deeper than that. It was celebrating the Blackness and ethnicity of the Black woman at a time when Black men were chasing the, er, white woman
Check out "Telephone Bill" "Vanish in Our Sleep" I'd Rather Be With You" "Can't Stay Away" "Very Yes"
Great album
He played bass with p-funk for years. George Clinton produced this track. Everybody luvs Boots!
Yes he did. He also played for James Brown when he was teenager along with his brother.
A chocolate Starr back then was a beautiful chocolate colored woman. A fine looking woman was referred to as a Starr.
Chocolate Starr was the name of his magnificent bass guitar
If I'm not mistaken but u might can Google it I think it was stolen once an I think that's what he called it
Chocolate Star is his Bass Guitar
this is one of my all time faves! great pick!
Bootsy, In the top 10 bassists.
Yes he played bass with parliament and he and his brother played in James Brown band
It's a very sensual song and melody, from the foreplay beginning to the blood boiling passion for a climactic ending as the tempo rises and ends ecstatic 😉🥰🌹💯
You don’t listen to this song for the lyrics you listen to it for the bass because the riff lines this dude is laying down are out of this world!!!
"I relate you to a candybar, eventhough you are my bass guitar."
His bass is in the shape of a star and is called the spacebass. And he's got the munchies for it's love. So its now a chocolate star in his eyes. Ahh, twinkle twinkle baba ;)
When you sampled by pac, Beyonce, eazy e, Scarface, ugk, childish Gambino, too short, digital underground, and Aaliyah you know you a legend
You should hear jois cover of this
Bootsy played guitar on zapps more bounce another song that been sampled to death
Didn't know THAT
Wow. I remember listening to this on the Quiet Storm when I was a kid. Great memories. #1977
i used to steal weed from my brothers stash and jam to this!
Lol this takes me back! Yes he’s connected to George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic.
"Everyday People" was Sly and the Family Stone.
Yes.. Larry Graham
Bootsy is a legend!
Great reaction!!!!!
You can hear the influence of West Coast music. His nephew Snoop and Dr. Dre used these same types of riffs/chords
Booths ruled in my preteens .u listening to classic p-funk . Classic album u got. Remember getting a whipping for dancing to his music instead of getting ready for school.
Long ago,
...in a galaxy far away,
(when "Black Is Bautiful" was the collective mindset of the time)
"Chocolate Star"
was one of many ways
we found to reaffirm our beauty
to ourselves...and to the world.
The phrase was
COMPLETELY devoid
of sexual inference.
Black men and women alike,
would use it
to greet one another.
"What's up, Chocolate Star!"
In fact,
my elementary teacher,
(Ms. Franklin) would refer to us
as her "Chocolate Stars".
Being 54 yrs. old now,
I'm not sure
what it refers to today;
but, I'm fairly certain
it's not something you'd use
to refer to an
8 yr. old child today.
But sadly,
...those times,
and those days,
are gone forever.
He said, the song was about his guitar.
HE WAS SAYING CHOCOLATE STUFF.
I know Bootsy Collins, but never heard this song. Great tune, very innovative, but that's Bootsy. You should check out his work with Buckethead in a group called Praxis. Also, point of note, he made an appearance with Deee-Lite on their hit Groove is in the Heart. You can't miss him; he has a very distinct singing voice.
Bootsy and Peter Frampton live just few miles from me
CLAIREMONT OHIO
It does not mean the same thing as today...😅.... but he is referring to a female (black women were called Chocolate Star back in the 70s as a compliment)
It's his star shaped bass; the rubber band sound in the song.
Another very unmistakable voice lol. Classic and cool!
Yes. Love your reactions.
Every day people is Sly and the Family stone....
Gotta love Bootsy. Hahahahaa yeah. I love when you blush. I guess he said it all. Lol 😛. Yes it means the same.
Very interesting. Quite suggestive in more than one way.
Everyday people was Sly and the Family Stone which was about a decade earlier
When you said, “stop saying chocolate star” it broke by heart.
Everyday People was Sly and the Family Stone. This Bootsy track… yeah, sounds like intended for a specific situational purpose. No doubt.
This like FunkaYes.
"Everyday People" is from the great Sly and the Family Stone. I can see why that occurred to you though.
It means exactly what you think it means everything else are just metaphors like guitar and chocolate woman etc.
❤
Bootsy learned his craft as a teenager in James Brown’s band
Back when Eddie Hazel was around with Funkadelic It's cool that you check all this different music out
The song Everyday People, was by the group Sly & the Family Stone another great Funk Band.
I hope you enjoy this one. This takes me back to the days of basement parties. Red light's , black light's , black light posters, Shag carpet and incense. Oh yeah and a feeling for that special person. I find your reaction intriguing. 😊 By the way that's BOOSTY on Bass.
Talking about his Spacebass
Bootsy is badass Bass player showing how he can take you there with that SPACE BASS
I think I need You and maybe a glass of wine for this song
everyday people done by sly and family stone
Next, play "Crystal Ball" 🔮 by Prince
So cool . . . .
Everyday People Sly and the family stone
Everyday People was by SLY and THE FAMILY STONE.
Lady you got it all wrong, he was expressing his love and feelings for that one who makes him feel special, he never described what he wanted to do to her he was describing how she makes him feel and how much she means to him
ON THAT SAME ALBUM THERE IS A SONG CALL IT'S WORTH A TELEPHONE BILL CHECK IT OUT . I AM BIG HAWK
A-boo TSI. A Collins question mark no, I'll tell you I'll wait. I'llways ALLLWIYA stopped at that brother that I hate could throw down on the vice like Hendrix was throwing down on the guitar. All right question mark how's Hendrick says she's got a bicycle tar holly.
If Jeremy Hendricks, yeah, I'd rather played the basketball.Yeah.I've been doing it like his brother here😅😊😊😊😊
And everyday people is sly and the family stone.
Hi 👋🏾 jus Followed ur channel 🙌🏾 😉! YES n YES 🤩 Bootsy was talking his 🌟Bass 🎸 but he DEFINITELY 😉🤗 talking tha otha 🍫-🌟.... 😻💯! Bootsy had that Sexual 🍫 Funk that was a different flow that started sumthin cause he wasnt scared 2 cross tha line saying sexy stuff which to me I thought tha next 2 artist carried it on was Rick James & Prince! Glad u Enjoy It 😉 👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾 😍
How about surface close than friends?
no sly stone did everyday people, the irony in u saying that is that Sly and the Family Stone had another feature Bassist who was very creative in his style of playing ,named Larry Graham, and yes that song was very sensual ,he is referring to sex as weed and what is commonly known after people get high they get really hungry better know as having the munchies, you could say he was getting high on having sex, which does happens in special cases and people,s relationships
No but Sly Stones verbalization tics were replicated by most Funk vocalist of the 70's.
Sounds ok
Yes. Sad to say.
Eddie Hazel Great Guitarist Maggot Brain
You are because you are beautiful
I wouldn’t buy it on iTunes
Lyrics distract from the music, which is quite good.
Hi. Please react to the Carpenters: HELP! :)
Have your Mom make more requests.
She don't get it...too deep
I had to look that up.... NO. NO. Chocholate Star would be a beautiful black woman. Probably from the Chocholate City... Wash. DC. But maybe he was way ahead of me and it actually does meanTHAT. Sly and the Family Stone sang Everyday People.
Hi gorgeous
That’s real music girl
The vyb
Real talk
Way more creative
Days never forgotten
Wake up to real music
A bootsy parka fonkadeliathsng 🫡💯

I know from the inside out-he called his bass guitar "chocolate star"..but it Was part of that creative camoflouge and double entendre-dual or triple meaning hidden in the lyrics.......now....I cant say Ive ever Witnessed him expressing a mouthfull of his munchies for ....what chocolate starr means today....butt.....lets just say...everything came from somewhere-and it still ...c u m s FROM there....can you digg it?...all punn intended....lolol......if you know Anything about the the Mobb..them funkateers.......a "backwards meal" pr0ooobbably aint too far fetched............feel me?.......insert any nasty FUNK metaphore here_______________. ;-)
