Hi! Thanks so much for the welcome, lots more Ipoh videos coming up soon showing how amazing the food is in your hometown, please subscribe so you don't miss what's coming. The people here have been so kind to us, we're overwhelmed at the hospitality this beautiful city has offered us. ❤🙏🇲🇾
That Hong Kong style bun is called Po lo bun or Pineapple bun (due to the crusted top that resembles the outside of pineapple). It is best served hot with cold butter stuffed in the center. That fried vegetable is called jicama or sweet turnip which is a root vegetable that looks a bit like a yam on the exterior. Those stuffed vegetables dish is called yong tau foo.
So true. We've had these dishes in a lot of places now, and the quality of the chef really shows through. That's why Kane & Jason's is the best we've tried!
Aren't we lucky! We are hoping to start meeting with cooks in every city we visit, we love food so much and really like to promote local businesses, so we hope that people like these videos.
Great Episode in IPOH. Ipoh was one of my favorite place to eat delicious food. would like to highlight something in regards of the pork vine ball..i think he misinterpret it. it should be pork tendon ball.
Glad that my hometown food did meet up with your taste bud but so sadly that I'm out from town cause if not why not I show both of you the local.mist have delicacies that will blown your mind away....
Most Malaysians are reticent about correcting others; but I got to say this for one of my favourite dishes. So the Assam Laksa’s sourness, it comes from Assam, the Malay word for Tamarind, and Lime juice I be would describe Assam Laksa as a South East Asian Bouillabaisse, which has more complex taste from the dozen of ingredients and herbs than the French soup or the Italian Chioppino Origins are unknown, but reputed to be from the Peranakans ( another Malay word for the Chinese who adopted local culture of the region ) from coastal regions of Malaysia, but you have similar dishes from Indonesia and Thailand
Assam Laksa certainly has a complexity of flavour not found in cioppino or bouillabaisse (both of which I also love.) But the layers of flavour in Assam Laksa make it really stand out for me. I love the way many asian cuisines balance the sour, sweet, spicy and savoury. Truly a magnificent dish and Jason and Kane's version is absolutely sublime
Kane and Jason's Asam Laksa was mind blowing, like roll your eyes in your head good. The best I've tried yet. I don't think I've had sarawak yet? Any recommendations on where to eat it in Ipoh or Penang?
@@PureDetour i know sarawak laksa can be found in kl. Northern people are too proud of asam laksa. Btw, asam laksa in penang is the best. Prawn mee in penang is the best too.
Hey all! What's your favourite breakfast noodle dish? Assam Laksa? Prawn Mee? Nonya Curry? Something else? Let us know, we're loving the noodle breakfasts and want to try them all! Also, special thanks to Jason & Kane, amazing new friends and it's so fun to learn more about the people behind the food that we love!
@@PureDetour you can watch canadian couple "hungry two travel". They ate like no tomorrow in ipoh. They went to a famous salt baked chicken shop after april this year

Right? We are so lucky to have met Kane & Jason, such wonderful warm people. It's so nice to make new friends, and especially with other people who love food as much as we do 😂
Oh wow, this sounds amazing, we love char siew. Any recommendation for a restaurant to try this? And have a look at our previous video where we met an amazing chef in Kuala Lumpur who made us char siew and siu yuk
Hi! When we left KL we went to Singapore by bus. Then we took another bus from Singapore to Ipoh. We find the buses here comfortable and easy to book and affordable.
Hi Zafir. Ipoh food is fantastic. We're in Penang now and really liking it here too! So hard to say which is best. We won't be able to make it to Kuala Kangsar this trip, but we'll certainly have to come back some day. It's a big country with so much to see and do and eat

He was really good at it! If you saw our Kuala Lumpur food tour, Angela tried to make roti and was REALLY bad at it. This guy could teach her a thing or two 😂
Super delicious food!!! But I wished the chef had worn those clear plastic gloves when placing various toppings on the laksa. I contracted campylo bacter decades ago from a stall with unhygienic practice.
I used to think prawn noodle is better than assam laksa. Now I realised assam laksa is better than prawn noodle. Assam laksa is a blend and combination of sweet, sour, salty, spicy, fishiness, crunchiness of onions, fish, fish paste, pineapple, mint, tamarind and all others ingredients all in one . The flavours just burst out with every mouthful of the noodles. No wonder the late Anthony Bourdain rated it so highly and CNN rated it 7th most delicious food in the world.
Assam Laksa is my (Angela) absolute favourite. It's just so complex and fresh and amazing. I can't get enough of it. Did you see this video yet? I'm in love with the Assam Laksa 😂😍😍😂 ua-cam.com/video/P4pUQIolwDg/v-deo.html
Don't put bean sprout in Assam Laksa. No good. Just thinly slices onion, cucumber, pineapple, mint leafs, ginger flower The right to put a dish soup is put noodles first, hot soup, toppings & serve immediately.
Respect your opinion but 100% disagree. Jason and Kane make their Asam Laksa with bean sprouts and it's by far the best Asam Laksa we had in our 4 months in Malaysia. Angela literally ate Asam Laksa everywhere we went and if I had to guess we tried at least 20 different versions throughout the country. Go to Ipoh and see Jason and Kane and tell me what you think.
