Such a thorough and detailed introduction to the profession. Currently thinking of becoming a vet nurse and this helped me a lot, even though I'm not from the UK. Thank you so much!
saffie yates you should try for vet. You can do the job of a vet nurse, vet tech, or a veterinarian with that degree! Just very academically challenging to get into as well as to complete. Go for it!
I'm going to be coming to England soon (I'm currently an American Vet Tech), and I'm trying to learn more about the similarities and differences between our jobs so I'm prepared haha this channel is awesome!
I did my A levels last year, but it’s been quite hard with COVID, I new from a really young age that I wanted to work with animals Bc I live on an animal sanctuary, i new this was the best jobs for me as I didn’t want to go to uni, I couldn’t really cuz of COVID and my dads quite ill as well. Training starting soon I hope! Thanks for the advice
This was a really informative and interesting video. I’m looking to get into vet nursing as a career change at 27 and after spending some time stuck inside my own head worrying whether or not it’s the right path, this video really helped me make a decision! I’m looking forward to watching your other videos :)
Sasha Taylor ah Sasha that’s so great to hear! I promise you it’s a decision you’ll never regret ❣️ well done for following your heart. Let me know if you’ve got any questions! Xx
I'm also in the same position as you just turned 27 and want a career change. I really would like to go into veterinary nursing just been looking at these great videos! I'm just wondering I don't have my science gcse as im a grade off getting a C, would I need to take the biology gcse to be able to even apply for the nursing course?

Hi, have you made any more videos? This video is really helpful and here at BVNA, we're looking for material to support campaigns to raise awareness about #whatvetnursesdo and to encourage people to become qualified nurses.
Hi Katie, thanks for your comment. There are a few other videos on my channel, but I've not made any for a while. Is there anything in particular you feel would be useful for prospective nurses that I could do a video on?
I am from Australia and I have dyspraxia and I was born 19/11/1991. I went to university here in Australia to do a course to see if I can get into university however I wasn’t getting the grades I needed to do the veterinarian course so a vet nurse and a dr told me that they were watching me and the seen that I am more hands on and they said I should volunteer at a animal shelter or a wildlife rescue centre and well there do a online certification 2 in animal studies to diploma of vet nursing then when I have done then and I still want to be a DR in the veterinarian industry then go back to the university and ask to do some course to getting into the doctor degree of the veterinary industry as it would help me a lot
What is the main difference between a diploma in nursing and an apprenticeship sorry I might sound silly but I’m only in year 9 and want to be a vet nurse
Hi there! I'm a Belgian veterinary nurse student, I'm in my second year now. Sadly in Belgium there are not a lot of job opportunities for veterinary nurses so I was wondering what it's like in the UK?
Beth Saunders on her behalf. You need to do a seperate vet degree (DVM or BVSc) which is usually 4-6 years long. If you have experience as a vet nurse then it improves your chances at some universities (although some only focus on grades and interviews).
Georgie Francis hi Georgie, the salary for veterinary nurses in the UK can vary hugely based on experience, qualifications and location within the UK. Corporate groups may offer a slightly more competitive salary than independently owned clinics, and its worth looking into the additional benefits a workplace has to offer, like paid CPD. The college I studied at published a blog on salary for RVNs which I’ve linked below - hope this helps. blog.caw.ac.uk/index.php/caw-news/rvn-wages-rise-spvs-survey-shows/
@@vetnurserambling2545 So glad I came across channel. I see you studied at CAW too, this is where I will start my studying in September (if all goes well!) super helpful video!! thankyou :)
I just found your channel and glad I did. Can I just ask.. If you are qualified as a nurse already living in the UK. Can you switch over to this? Do you need to do additional studies to get into the course? Thank you 🙂
Hi there, thanks for your comment! Yes, I was born and bred in the UK! I think the minimum for the diploma course is still 4 GCSEs, but it might be worth confirming with the establishment you are interested in studying at. Hope that helps :)
Hi, Do you think its too late for a 41 yr old to become a vet nurse? Iv come across alot of agest attitudes and thought id ask. I have a zoology/Marine zoology degree but can not get into my field so thought id change paths slightly?
Hi Angela - it’s never too old to follow a path you feel passionately about! I have worked with nurses who came to it after a long career in a totally different industry - if you have the motivation and drive, you can achieve whatever you want! I can’t recommend it enough as a job - you will never be bored and never regret it! Hope this helps. Xx
hey, I know this video was posted a while ago but I've been a bit confused on one aspect of the vet nurse training for a while, and I cannot seem to get a solid answer anywhere! Basically I was just wondering if you needed to secure an apprenticeship/employment with a practice before you apply for the college level 3 degree, or do the college help you find a placement at the beginning of starting your course? I'm looking to apply to a level 3 degree course in veterinary nursing in about a year, so I wasn't sure if I should start enquiring about apprenticeships soon or if the college sort it out with you once you are enrolled x also do you know what the difference is between a full time/ part time course and an advanced apprenticeship course? Thank you so much xx
Hi! It was the level 3 diploma in veterinary nursing at the college of animal welfare (I went to Huntingdon but they are dotted about the place) - I went straight from a levels but don’t think there’s any age limit. You’ve got to have a minimum number of GCSEs at a certain grade but that’s it. Hope that helps! X
mynameispolly yeah you’ll need some work experience beforehand - I think they like a minimum of 2 weeks but the more you get, the better! I’d recommend just emailing as many local practices as you can and try and get your foot in the door. Good luck! X
Hi thanks for your video it's very much appreciated..I live in wales and am struggling as to how to get into vetinary nursing. I've looked online for positions but to no avail...should I approach vetinary surgeries in person? Any help with this would be appreciated ☺️☺️
John Cummings hi there - I’m so sorry it has taken me so long to reply. I would defo recommend approaching practices directly - you can also then get a feel for the practice as well as winning them over :)
I think so. I’m in the UK and have done some research today. You don’t even need to do A levels. You can take a diploma at a college and then if you want go onto a degree course at a University if you want to go to uni, or as she said if you don’t want to go to uni she speaks about alternatives in the video. I don’t know but I don’t think you need to be too focused on physics.

this is a very late comment but I was wondering if you could change from a vet nurse to a fully qualified vet if I ever wanted to do that.

Do you have to be 18 to go into the vet nurse course, or can you go at 16 straight out of High school UK?
What’s the difference between VN and VCA? Love this video 😘

I don't know if it varies that much. I would say 40k a year around like 20,25 bucks an hour. Nothing pays well so do what you want
Is this something someone could do if they’re in their 30s?
