Congratulations to LaLulu2020 for winning the FWP Carousel fountain pen! Please contact me at inkquiringminds@gmail.com within 48hrs with your name and mailing address to receive your prize. Thanks to everyone for participating!
Oh my goodness! Thanks so much, Doug! This is the first time I've ever won a prize draw. This Carousel pen will be such a wonderful addition to my sketching fountains. I currently have a couple of fude fountains and had been looking into Kaweco until I discovered your fantastic channel, randomly.
I failed to mention that FWP "Stroke of Midnight" is a shimmering ink. It doesn't show up well with a thin line but the ink definitely has a silver shimmer to it.
Unfortunately, the barrel on my Carousel cracked less than a month after use. I didn't bother to replace as it just felt cheap to me from the start. YMMV
Thanks for the review and giveaway. I have a brown Ferris Wheel Press ink, Writing Desk, that I really like. Is Stroke of Midnight a shimmering ink? I thought I saw glitter at the bottom of the bottle you had, but couldn't see it in the writing sample.
@@InkquiringMinds That's ok. You were reviewing the pen, not the ink. Just wanted to make sure my eyes weren't playing tricks on me. Even without the shimmer, the ink looks like a lovely colour that really complements the pen.
Thank you for a detailed review. I would be a bit worried about how long lasting is the soft plastic exterior, but the nib, which is to me the most important part sounds lovely!
It’s interesting. Mine clogged almost immediately after filling it. I did a write test and couldn’t finish “the quick brown fox…” wonder if it’s the Color I chose or if it’s just such a different nib than I’m used to.
Interesting that it is a snap to post. Does the snap cap do a good job in keeping the nib from drying out? Since the pen they sent you is blue, I was wondering... Any possibility of reviewing Noodler's Baltimore Canyon Blue ink?
Nice pen! It reminded me on first glance of just the sort of thing a stationery store would sell with their themed ink and paper/journal; but it would hold up at work. Thanks for the review.
A very nice pen indeed. The way that the pen pays attention in the small details like molding seam and the end molding gates, parts which are outright ignored by other inexpensive pens, just shows the dedication and ingenuity of the company. The stamping on the nib is unique and I like it. Hopefully will buy one someday when I can handle the shipping cost to get it to India. Otherwise it might be a good candidate for a beginner pen.
Fun review, any thing with bugs bunny is a joy. As for the pen; looks like a Lamy Safari and a Kaweco sport had a baby. I enjoy my Lamy so I am curious about the carousel.
Hi Doug, fast, smooth,.wet and light writing... So, I can just write like it’s a sport car... and I do like thin lines... I adore this fountain pen, it should be an awesome fountain pen... Top quality.
Thank you for such a wonderful review, I love how smooth the pen writes during your video and good to know a little bit of history about the company as well.
Yeah, Canada! It's nice to see another good thing coming out of the true north! Nice pen, and they have nice inks too. I look forward to see what other inks they come out with.
Thanks for this review! I’d not made up my mind about giving their pens a try, though I thoroughly enjoy the inks, and this video has been my “add to cart” decision maker.
Nice looking pen Doug... But the detail and design of the packaging are what screams "Quality" to me. I found myself gazing at the box as you were describing the instrument. Yes, I was paying attention to the pen as well. Great review as always!
First time seeing you. Just getting in to fountain pens, so I'm voraciously consuming reviews. You introduced me to a new company/pen/ink, gave a great breakdown of the pen, with attention to minor details and even made me chuckle. Excellent review, I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to more.
I love this company, the design and artist look of the products and the inks i like the fact that they different pen as i was not a fan of the other paintbrush pen. Also its Canadian i try to support Canadian businesses when i can
I first got to know Ferris Wheel Press through a Kickstarter campaign for several of their inks. I chose the Bluegrass Velvet, which I've come to like a lot. I was blown away by the product presentation and quality, which was quite impressive. The beautiful round bottle of ink came in a velvet pouch, which of course matched the color of the ink! Since then, I've tried several of their colors. My favorite so far are Tanzanite Sky and Algonquin Maple. Stroke of Midnight looks very attractive, and as you said, that ink and the Carousel pen are a perfect match.
That Stroke of Midnight is calling me…two pen pals used it in their letters and now you! Lol, I should put it in my cart tonight. Great review as always!
@@thecoffeegod Yeah. You put in markers on your timeline as you edit and then Davinci will upload directly to UA-cam, and add the chapter markers and timestamps to your description. I missed the checkbox. Not a glitch. User error. LOL
First of all,ove your channel and especially love your hat. The design of the pen and the box is obviously done by an expert. Proof that great design doesn't need to break the bank. The Carousel would be a wonderful daily write pen. And the ink buddy...I'll definately pick one of those up. Thanks.
Received the turquoise version today.Narrower and longer than the Kaweco Sport, but fits my large hand perfectly and a really good steel nib. Spot on with all the details they manage to achieve with this pen.A real keeper!
Awesome review as always. I have seen a lot about this brand but have not seen any of their products in person yet. Hopefully at the Baltimore show, someone will have some.
Thanks for another witty and balanced review. I bet this would be wonderful for sketching with that Koh I Noor 5640-type grip section and EF nib which is ideal for details! The PenBBS 350-type round shaft means the artist could move their fingers further up the barrel if they wanted to do larger cross-hatches. Lightweight is a big plus because it would feel so freeing for the wrist.
Congratulations, LaLulu2020! You've WON the Carousel! Please contact me at inkquiringminds@gmail.com within 48hrs with your name and mailing address to receive your prize!
A wonderful review for a pen that I’ve been looking at. I do love the one Ferris Wheel Press ink that I have, and the company is compelling, especially for a Canadian like me. Thanks for the information!
Hello, thanks for the review! I'm fairly new to the world of fountain pens but I have heard of the brand through their inks. I didn't know they make fountain pens too! Question: Would you say this pen can withstand a bit of abuse, say, accidentally dropped from a desk, or thrown into a school bag and under a thick textbook? Also, have you tried other inks with this pen, and if so, how do they hold up with this pen?
What a fantastic looking pen in a gorgeous blue. Have had Ferris Wheel Press on my heavy interest list for a while now. Wish they were more in my budget in Australia!
As usual..a great review. Like a snap cap, engraved nib, included converter and Canadian co. Oh yes, that it writes well. I too lov a carousel 🎠 lots of fond memories with Gramps and the Cony Island carousel.
Sorry for viewing this video so late! That is a very nice review of a beautiful ink and pen duo; they are certainly made for each other 😉 It is nice to see a Canadian company making such increasingly successful presence in the fountain pen/ink market. The design [thanks for the thorough review of the design of this pen!] and procurement of components from Taiwan, assembly, marketing, and shipping are not simple processes, so it is fantastic that Ms. Lu and her husband are so successful in their operation. Thanks, and keep up the excellent work!
Pretty interesting review! I wonder what shipping would be as it might be low enough that I'd be willing to purchase two or three pens, each with a different nib and a different color...
I tried one of their brass and lacquered pens at the Fountain Pen Hospital. They had a sample pen, but at that time they were only planning to carry the ink. I was surprised at how well the pen wrote.
That nib design looks neat! It's amazing when the designers pay attention to the small details. I personally think that 'ink buddy' was the hidden gem of the video.
Thanks for the review, I always enjoy your videos. The pen reminds me of my favorite really cheap pen, the jinhao 166 with lamy style nibs that can be exchanged easily.
This is such an improvement over their first pen! It is indeed a very thoughtful, well executed design, and it looks like a lot of fun. I also love the transparency about place of manufacture. Good luck to everyone (including me ;) ). Finally, thank you for designing the InkBuddy. I'm not a huge Ferris Wheel Press ink fan but I know lots of people love the ink and loath the bottle, the design of which is cute but impractical to the point of being silly.
Right on! I have had so many questions and curiosity about those pens. Great review and thank you! Also, that “Junk-in-yo-trunk” video caught me off guard. Great laughter ensued!
Another great review. This seems like it would be a great addition to an EDC. I like having a snap cap pen in my daily drivers for quick notes. Good luck to everyone!
They have a paintbrush style fountain pen that is fancier. It is like the Penbbs Long tail pen but in opaque resin with colours which are similar to the Carousel pen. It has a metal section and its price is about $170.00 CAD All I can think about is "When is my Wateman Carene black Sea with stub nib going to come home to me. I ordered it Dec 3rd I think. Thats been a while.
Their darker inks seem really good. I have yet to make one my Ink of the Month, but maybe later this year Tanzanite Sky will make the cut. This pen would be good to put that in!
Such a pretty pen, I love the horse stamped nib, one of my favorite pend I own is my Tools To Live By Black Chat which has a cat face stamped nib and I'm lucky I got it because I've checked the page and they're sold out. FWP makes it very hard not to go overboard when shopping, though their prices thankfully slow me down when I do buy something lol
Heh. You finally got me at ‘it’s FAST!’ Pen speed really does make a difference in writing when the ideas are flying, and I’m not sure I have a single truly fast pen right now. Nice review. Really thorough and helpful! Thank you!
I've lost my home internet connection for the time being, so I was doubly pleased to find this review while spending the weekend with friends. Since I prefer a fine line, your only real drawback for this pen is an advantage from my point of view. The blue looks like the best color of the lot, with the vanilla coming in second. Thanks as always for your thoughtful reviews. Paul
thank you for the review, what you missed is if you can attach a clip or not. Looks quite similar to Kaweco Liliput. Another gem from Taiwan in the line of Twisbi. Thanks for taking the time to find this gem, even though designed in Canada it's a Taiwanese product, I don't know if it is available here in my part of the world, I checked with Amazon India cant see it. Hope one day it will land up as the packaging is nice as the well colour of the pen
There is no clip and no clip option on the website. And since the cap is 12 sided, I don't know of a clip that exists that would fit the pen. The Lilliput is very small compared to this pen. It is 40mm shorter in length and a full millimetre thinner on the section and the Lilliput is cylindrical where the Carousel has a faceted cap and section.
Professor Doug, I am pleased to see some local flavour to the pen business. I believe that I may need to take a little side journey in my travels to visit Ferris Wheel Press. Perhaps they have other secret delights to uncover. I will report back with any information.
That looks like an interesting pen. I'm a bit turned off by the lack of a clip and general "faceted" surfaces, but I sure wouldn't mind checking out their fine nib to see HOW fine it actually is! Oh, and at 7 grams, that is a REALLY light pent! Does it feel "plasticky," or is there a generally acceptable feeling to the surface? I had ordered a Carousel pen last year from Atlas Stationary. It wanted use it strictly as a workhorse pen. After repeated use it cracked along the barrel. Ferris Wheel has great inks. Not sure I like their pens as much.
I'm a big fan of their inks. Lady Rose, Lady Rose Gold and Madame Mulberry are 3 of my all time favorite inks. I purchased a Carousel pen, in Lady Rose, back when they offered a pre-order deal, so i got it for about 20 bucks. I really enjoy the nib. Great review, Doug!! 🔥👑

Great Review Doug. I absolutely love FWP inks. I have quite a few. I've been looking at the Carousel pens. I definitely think a purchase is on the cards. Brilliant that they provide a converter.
Oh, I didn't know they also produced fountain pens. My first idea was "Ah, a grown up Kaweco Sport". It seems to be a nice pen and could be a good EDC pen.

Did you contact them for a replacement?
@@InkquiringMinds Nope, but I should have. It still works, it's mostly aesthetics.
Wonderful! Thank you so much, Dean!
@@InkquiringMinds Thank YOU, Sir! 😎
Ferris Wheel Press better watch out with that faceted cap. Kaweco is firing up the lawsuits as we speak :)
LOL I don't think Kaweco has a pen with a dodecagon shaped cap. But perhaps they've registered the name "the Carousel" in the EU?
Oh how nice! They have an alternative to that paintbrush pen they offered before!!!
Another great review! I am now intrigued by this pen and their ink. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.
Thanks, Deb!
Another great video! Wow, a paisano from St. Catharines. I’m and old Collegiate guy graduated in ‘86… just before going globetrotting down to Mexico for a few (30) years. I’m back… Thanks for the video!!!
Very cool! SWC here!
Some of my favorite pens are simple, well engineered writers, such as the FWP Carousel. Very nice blue, Another good one, Sir Douglas. 🇨🇦
Many thanks!
Lately Kaweco Sport & Pilot Kakuno have been talking to me, now Ferris Wheel Press Carousel. Thanks Doug :)
Right on!
The pen design is pretty nice, though it's kinda weird that the ink bottles don't have as much attention to detail.
Someone was saying the bottle was a Kickstarter.
An intriguing pen. As you said, lots of interesting design features.
This color looks awesome! I dare say it would look just lovely in my collection. Hihi. Thanks again for a super detailed review Doug.
You are so welcome!
Great Review Doug. I absolutely love FWP inks. I have quite a few. I've been looking at the Carousel pens. I definitely think a purchase is on the cards. Brilliant that they provide a converter.
Thanks for watching!
Oh, I didn't know they also produced fountain pens. My first idea was "Ah, a grown up Kaweco Sport". It seems to be a nice pen and could be a good EDC pen.
Thank you for the give away from Ferris Wheel Press and Doug. That pen would work well with FWP Jelly Bean. A nice blue ink.
I love Jelly Bean Blue! Thanks, Jay!
