    I work at a corporate office and I’m shocked my office even kept me at all. I was talked down to like crazy (in front of patients even) by the original dentists I started with and basically expected me to know everything. I’ve been an assistant for over a year now.

      I see its been about 5 months. Has it gotten any better?

      This is what I’m dealing with now. Not so much from the dentist but the head dental assistant that I’m supposed to be learning from. I’ve been there a little over a week and my nerves from being scared to ask questions is making me make mistakes I wouldn’t normally make. Trying to learn the procedures and taking X-rays has been hard for me. Especially In my office they expect us to take one handed X-rays. It’s so much different taking X-rays on a patient than the dummies at school. I wish I could just fast forward the first couple of months. I hate being new 😫

      @@shannonwiggins5933 I can relate. The guy that trained me was hard to understand a lot of the time and even admitted to me once saying he didn’t think he was a good teacher because of the language. Sometimes when he’d talk to me about whatever I messed up on (which was literally millions of times), he’d often have trouble figuring out how to word something. Healthcare is difficult especially when you work with someone who has a thick accent and has difficulty trying to find the right words for things.

      @@shannonwiggins5933 I’m no longer a DA now. I work for an adult daycare for the developmentally disabled. It’s way better for me and less stressful. I was thinking about trying dental again when we move to the PNW maybe later this year. But decided against it altogether when my work presented the opportunity to take registered behavior technician readiness courses.

    I second what you said about feeling lost, I just graduated from dental assisting, I know all the instruments, however the procedural steps was the hardest, but after a few times of assisting in a filling it becomes easy, now Im going to try and master crown preps and endo.

    Thank you. I needed this video! I just started at a brand new office after just graduating my program in December. I’ve been working for about a week now but I felt like I was being judged by the other assistants who have worked there for 10 years for not knowing certain things. It has made me so uncomfortable and afraid to ask for help. But knowing I’m not alone has helped so much. Thank you.

    Thank you for the video! Going through a program and in my externship right now and just scared to death to chairside assist and having doubts it’s the right fit since i’m totally in a different type of work environment. Love your videos and thank you again!

    I am a dentist from India , just started a new job as an unregistered dental assistant . Sometimes I feel that I am not able to read the mind of the dentist as I have a little experiance in the field of dental assisting , I give the wrong instruments and the materials seem different from what i have got used to.As you have mentioned in the video ,upon practice I hope it will get better.

      Not yet! That's a fantastic idea! Do you mean dental assistants to help hygienists with probing and paperwork, sterilizing? That kind of thing?

  • @Rahfrench

    Is it okay to not know everything in a working interview as well? Would they still hire?

    Hi, thanks for these videos! How should one handle an assistant that doesn't train as their supposed to? They also ask to refrain from talking about personal stuff yet at times that can be very ackward.

    • @dentalelle
      @dentalelle  5 років тому +1

      Fer M-S that’s so tricky. I would have a personal talk with them about what they should be doing. Sometimes they just don’t realize, OR don’t care..until you give them a talking to :)

    Hello and Good Morning Andrea. I had a weird toothache this morning. I was eating a pancake and I had a sharp toothache for about 2 minutes before it went away. Have any ideas what it could be? I've never felt like that in My previous 31 years on this earth.

    It seems impossible to me right now to be able to make sure everything is charted. When my dentist is done I have to write down what we did, what they need next and any watch areas in the notes. Then I have to chart them. Then I have to put the codes in for billing. I always feel bad asking the patient to wait while I try to figure all of it out.

    • @dentalelle
      @dentalelle  Рік тому

      I understand! I would always do it anytime I had a free moment, let’s say the dentist is doing something on their own with the patient or explaining something to the patient I would take that time to write as many notes as I could. I would then let the patient know I have a few more chart notes to write up but I’ll be out there in a moment and they can sit outside in the waiting room
