In Romania, though a Republic, we are are very nostalgic about the monarchy and there is a strong movement, especially among the youth for the restoration of the monarchy. The Romanian royal family also has some role in the society, but of course, not as in a true monarchy. In case of a referendum, how would the Norwegian society vote?
The monarchy is pretty popular in the Norwegian population. Around 80% want to keep the monarchy, according to the latest polls. The law-proposal you read about is nothing extraordinary. Every parliamentary term, which means every 4 years, the Socialist-Left Party make a law-proposal to turn Norway into a parliamentary republic. I think it's a matter of principal for them, more than an actual dislike of the current system. They have been in government with no issues, and there are even some socialists who actively support the monarchy. Myself included.

Yes, I would think so. They were secret lovers for 9 years before they were allowed to marry. Sonja was a normal upper middle-class woman with no nobel background. King Olav wwas more conservative, and he thought royals had to marry royals. Not until Harald threathened his father to remain unmarried for the rest of his life did the King give his approval.
